Thoughts on the recent announcement regarding Pilot specialization

I think it's about time that we at least try to ask the devs to reconsider their position on introducing new ships to a specific specialization.

Back when Delta Rising information was coming out, they introduced Tier 6 ships. Below is a quoted section from the Tier 6 blog:
We really wanted this tier of starships to stand out and offer some unique features not found anywhere else. These ships can (but don’t always) have hybrid bridge officer seats that can slot Specialist Bridge Officers. These special officers have access to two complete pools of bridge officer abilities. One of these pools is a complete suite of all new bridge officer abilities, while the other is an existing profession: Tactical, Science or Engineering. It’s important to note that while these ships don’t always feature a Specialist Bridge Officer seat, all of the Tier 6 ships launching with Delta Rising will feature at least one of these special seats.

What I would like to point out is the areas I bolded at the time suggested that at the time the blog came out, it would appear that the devs had plans to have non-specialized Tier 6 ships.

As it stands right now, we have the following ships with specialized seating.

Intelligence--Phantom Intel Escort, Eclipse Intel Cruiser, Scryer Intel Science Vessel, Dauntless Experimental Science Vessel, Pathfinder Long range science vessel, Guardian Cruiser, Mat'ha Raptor, Qib Intel Battlecruiser, Faeht Intel Warbird, Aelahl Light Warbird Battlecruiser, Benthan Assault Cruiser, Hazari Destroyer, Elachi Sheshar Dreadnought Cruiser, Breen Sarr Theln Carrier and the Vaadwaur Manasa Assault Escort.

Command--Command battlecruisers (3 for each faction to total 9 ships), Kobali Samsar Cruiser and Vaadwaur Astika Heavy Battlecruiser

Both specializations on one ship: Jem'hadar Strike Ship.

It is honestly going to get ridiculous to have to buy a new ship (or more for each faction) just to be able to use a new specialization.

What I think the devs should consider is introducing the idea of a ship that has a universal specialization seat. (Since the universal seats only apply to the 3 existing professions)

This ship with a universal specialization seat I would imagine would be a hot seller for many players. While I know it's probably not going to go over well as the whole idea of single specialization ships probably brings in cash better than my idea, only those who can afford to get a new shiny ship every time it comes out will be able to afford it.

Please weigh in on this guys. Do you like the idea I have proposed?

You actually don't need to buy a new ship whatsoever and use your t5u ship all day long
Should I start posting again after all this time?

T5-U obviously DOES NOT allow using any specializations, at all.

I have to agree that it will be a pain to manage 3 sets of ships x 3 factions if I want to be able to try using the other specialization beyond the intel ships I have now.

Maybe we need to have T6-U ships where the -U is Universal Specialization seating.

Actually, if you want to try out bridge officer specialization powers in space, the only options that some might have would be to either spend 30 dollars on a ship or wait for the next event ship to come out (the Sarr Theln and Kobabli were event ships during the point the specializations were out).

I have the two tier 6 ships I just mentioned from both those events for all my existing characters. I will still fly the tier 5/tier 5-U ships I have, but I also like flying the new ones too.

    Hmm,

Does all these specialist ships make sense in the setting? No.

Does the company make tons of money off offering all these ships? Yes.

Sadly, being a MMO the second outweighs the first.

And to be honest, I'm ok with that. After switching to the TAC Command cruiser from my beloved Excelsior, I find I miss flying a uncommon (relatively) ship...

So I'm looking forward to the next batch even if I don't get one, which is likely at least until the Summer Event.

I bet my life that in the future their will be universl seats like that in the future.
But in the meantime, I stick by my original statement

Or they were just wisely keeping their options open. Because if they did promise specialist stations guaranteed for every T6 ship, that blog would be dug up even years later and used as ammunition in the flame war if they ever were to release a T6 without one. ;)

Uni-spec seats will come when they've gone through all the specializations they can think of and need to kick the power creep up another notch. And you people who were begging for them will complain that you're once again "forced" to buy a new ship.

The new ships aren't needed by any means; I'm still flying T5U's with no intention for the new ships, nor these new abilities. Anyone who buys into them either has money to spare/waste, or is a fool.

Cryptic (in this) are clever. They'll release a new set of skills with a new ship, people will rush to buy, then they'll do it again and people will rush to buy again. Rinse & Repeat. I'm not playing that game with them, you shouldn't either.

Don't worry, they'd just edit the dev blog. Wouldn't be the first time that's happened.
