Delta Recruitment for slow levelers...

realisticaltyrealisticalty Member Posts: 851 Arc User
I'm a slow leveler, I'm both somewhat time limited so tend not to start content unless I have a lot of time available, busy doing various STO activities and I still haven't completely finished the newest content on my main. I also can be a "flower sniffer" enjoying the atmosphere and story of the content. So I tend to level slowly.

With all this talk about creating a new character for Delta Recruitment, what happens if we "start" but can't "finish"? I forget how much time we have to level, and what happens to our other characters and daily routines during that time..many of which keep my dill/ec supply going. What happens if *gasp* we were to decide there wasn't enough time to participate?

I admit to being hesitant to "commit" to levelling another character to 50, I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude.

Am I alone? Am I all wrong?

Well, they said something about "rapidly closing the gap bewteen exisiting charcters" (yeah, right ) so I gues it will go faster than usual. Maybe delta recruits have some xp multiplier like during the events or semthing like that, we'll see.

Im more worried that roms and klinks will get shafted again since their rank up and ships are tied to the story progression rather than simple level up like the feds.

The last time we had accelerated leveling roms and klinks had to play unskippable missions that were filled with proper lvl twenty-something enemies while piloting their horrendously undergeared starting boats.

Wouldn't be surprised to see that happening again.

I can't be bothered with this farce. It'll be Delta Recruits here, then they'll eventually open up the Gamma Quadrant and we'll have Gamma Recruits all in the name of having people create even more characters.

I guess it's fine for the people that spend every free hour on the game, cause they need something new to do, but this strategy by Cryptic doesn't serve casual players at all. I've three main characters, and two secondary ones that I'm working toward discharging (just need to transfer some items across) but I'm not getting involved in this Recruit business. It's a bad use of development time I think, and I doubt the rewards will justify the grind.

Hah, I wouldn't be half surprised either. Cryptic probably haven't even thought about this (cause that would require them to think other than FED). They'll probably read this in a couple of hours/days and think "oh sh*t", followed by a pause, and then an "ah what the hell, it's not FED, don't worry about it."

it sounds like there are 2 concepts in play, to me. This is just speculation from what cryptic said:

    1) recruit character: has some passive bonuses from time of creation that last forever.

    2) recruit event: doing certain things during the event give more bonuses.

So it sounds like having a recruit might still be worthwhile even if you only get so far into the event.

They want to catch people up, they need to combine an XP weekend with something that pays 250k dil, gives 10x reputation rep gains on the projects, and levels crafting at 25 times the normal rate, with a gift of 25 spec points upon reaching level 60. *That* would get people started toward catching up...

The best bet for a slow leveler is to make a fed toon and alternate between episodes and patrols. Will get you up there quicker.

On the R&D side, grab 4 common RLS and kick off assignments for a single school first. Once you get to level 5 on one, repeat with other schools (and it's quicker because you can kick off a 4th assigment for yet another school.

I don't expect that it will take too long to level the Delta Recruit. Presumably, you have already run many of the storyline missions and won't need to smell any flowers (particularly since they've shortened many of the longer missions). Also, add a 5-minute Doff mission session into your time and you'll probably out-level most of the missions anyway. Finally, I believe that all missions reward a small amount of dilithium and fleet marks. I haven't checked this out, however.

At least leveling isn't as painful as it was in 2009. The only way to level was to run storyline missions, system patrols, exploration missions, and group PVE/PVP. You kids have it easy now :)

Now, you may not have run many of the storyline missions -- which may be the reason Cryptic chose to create the "Delta Recruit" program. The content is worth running through at least once since it does provide a backdrop for the current state of affairs.

my best advice would be give your regulars a rest for the duration of the event, you wont miss much in that short time, create a character when the event starts and play him as much or as little as you can in whatever time you have.
reap as many benefits as you can from the event, where you go with the character after the event ends is up to you, I don't know how strongly the delta will be linked to the rewards you get on your other characters so whether you can delete him I don't know but personally I will let him sit in the wings and just do a little here and there with him if I feel like it.

even if you cant get all the rewards going in the time allotted anything you do get sounds like it will be worth the effort to me.

    like the other poster said.
Presumably, you have already run many of the storyline missions and won't need to smell any flowers.

so whip through them as fast as you can but don't miss any prompts to do a task for extra rewards.

at the end of the day if its not working for you and you seem to be going nowhere you can always scrap the idea along with the character and go back to your usual thing but I think its worth giving it a try.

remember, its always better to try and fail then not try at all.

IMO the little you will loose in the time you give it will be outweighed by what you will gain.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Complete with "FINISH NOW!' buttons I'm sure. So many flashbacks to Mafia Wars it's disturbing.

Just play at your own pace and don't let Cryptic or power levelers dictate you pace. I'm going to play mostly because I'm curious about what the temporal arc will add to the storyline. If there are bonuses from playing the content that's nice but if my play experience amounted to gathering perks and making my characters, "the best" it wouldn't be worth playing in the first place.

I don't think that will be the case, it mentions in the news blog playing the story missions up through the breen story arc so I am guessing it will be the case deltas will be at least lv50 if not higher by that time and I think most of the extras you will get from the event will be gained by that point just through regular play.

I cant see a finish now button on any of the missions or any other place there isn't one already as many of the bonuses will be picked up in the mission and through normal play without skipping anything.

I think that's what the devs are planning with this event.

indeed, this character will be about as far from being my best as you can get especially if I find I can delete him after the event without consequence to any bonuses my current characters will have got from the event.
though I will probably keep him on if only for the odd bit of farming.

players have been complaining that since DR it has been too hard to roll a new character and level him up, I think this is only designed to address this issue even if only for a short time.
