So, why does no one want an epic [crtd]x4?

martakurillmartakurill Member Posts: 456 Arc User
So maybe some of the more savvy exchange players can shed some light on this for me.

I recently had the good fortune to craft an [ac/dm] [critd]x4 mk xiv antiproton beam array. As far as I know, that's pretty much as good as it gets. I've also had the lowest listed price one on the exchange off and on for about a week (between 90 - 100 mil if I remember correctly).

So my question is, why isn't it selling? Is it not desirable anymore, or is there something else affecting the market. Quite honestly, I've never owned an item that is this valuable before (closest I've come previously is a T5 lockbox ship), so I have no idea what to think.

Help?

That is a lot of money for a single weapon and chances are people are just making their own.

Yeah, chances are all the people who could afford to spend that much for a weapon already have their ships kitted out with them.

Heh I suppose I could afford but really dont want to. I have a handful of such weapons spread over 8 toons or so but there is no chance in the world I out gear all my builds with such.

Why? They simply cost too much for what I gain through them. Last time I checked Crit D x 3 still works fine for me as well.

Perhaps if they would cost 10% of a lock box ship I’d go for them more but under current prices no thankies. :)

Had you crafted that back in Oct - Dec, you would have sold it instantly. At this point, those that have the capital and the desire got such items long ago.

Just because its cheapest on the exchange doesn't mean it worth its price. There is only so much people will pay for "best of the best" when "almost as good" is 10-20m. Especially considering this game isn't hard enough to need anything near that good. As already mentioned, the people willing to pay anything for the best of the best have bought theirs already.

I agree with all of the above. I want crtD4 AP but I'm not able to or willing to play that amount for a single beam. Also with the omega minigame it's cheaper for me to craft a crtd3 then use an omega/accel to try and get crtD4. Sadly I've got 5 crtD3 crtH and I've upgraded the 3 epics to 14 but 2 were dmg. That said I've been able to handle a lot of the endgame content with my crtD3 DHCs so was in no rush to upgrade. I hear talk of changes coming which makes me reluctant to act because I fully expect Cryptic to $%^$% me senseless the moment I upgrade like give us choice over mods or rebalance them. Don't do a lot of space atm anyways so there's never been a demand to upgrade.

Give it time, it will sell eventually as long as its priced right. If your in a hurry drop it down to about 80mil, should sell quickly. As others have said allot of us that can afford such things already have setup our ships with AP crtdx4 epic sets, so not going to sell as quickly as it once did.

I myself take the "less desirable" weapons when gearing a ship, because I refuse to pay the equivalent of ... what ... $60ish? For a weapon in a video game. I've dumped that kinda money for a ship or two from the cstore, but weapons are not worth it. Not at all.

In a free market, the answer to the question "why is my product or service not selling?" is always "because people don't need or want it at the price you're offering".

If I wanted something like that, I'd be looking at crafting it myself, because I've got toons with decent beam weapons skill, and it would probably work out cheaper that way. Bear in mind that, on average, people's crafting skills are continually increasing... which means that they are increasingly able to make these things for themselves (reducing demand) or to sell to others (increasing supply). Reduced demand and increased supply means, in the absence of other factors, prices will tend to drop.

well as you say yours maybe the cheapest on the exchange or what ever but just because the price is cheaper than others listed does not mean it will sell at all. i see people trying to sell stuff all the time and they say well on the exchange they are this or that. all i can is if you see it on the exchange for any amount of time at all. then you know its way over priced. that dont mean thats what the going price is for something.

as for the 90 to 100 mil weapon most have figured out it is far cheaper to buy a lower lvl weapon for 1 to 10 million then upgrade it themselves than to pay that sort of price for it.

You are selling a single Mk XIV Epic Beam Array for 90M EC on the exchange? You have to ask why it's not selling?

Go cheaper! Keep reducing the price, until it sells... Then the other yahoos who are selling for more will figure out that theirs needs to be cheaper too...

Nah, see I'd say show some patience. Price it at the lowest or just above the lowest. Check back from time to time. It will sell when it sells.

Oh, it'd take a while, certainly.... If I was keen to do it, I'd start churning out Mk II VRs (at a cost in materials that's essentially negligible), until I had a stock of [CrtD]x3's that I could then start upgrading, knowing my chances of getting that fourth mod are low, but not negligible. (Obviously, I'd be making my own purple tech upgrades too.)

It'd take a certain amount of time and effort, yes, but possibly not 90 million ECs worth of time and effort... and, of course, there's a certain feeling of accomplishment in doing these things for one's self, yes?

At one point the cheapest Doptid beam doff on the exchange was 80 million EC.

I put up a spare at the bargain price of 40 million EC and it still didn't sell, I wonder why? :)

"Lowest price on the exchange" means nothing if the price is more than people are willing to spend.

Would definitely depend on where one sat with their R&D and how well they could crit the components. Was a discussion about that at one point, over buying/selling->buying/just crafting the components and the rest. For the one guy, it was far better for them to go one way. For me, it was far better to go another. Definitely something folks would have to take a closer look at to figure out which way would be best for them.

It's just one of those things - if you "really need" the EC, then you're likely to have to eat a "loss" that you wouldn't otherwise.

Would be nifty if the Exchange tracked hi/lo for a period of time - where we could see what things were trading at for the day, for a 3-day period, for a week, month, going beyond that might be pushing it...heh, but that's another game where the Market PvP is far more intense...heh.

Heh, did it actually show for folks? The Exchange has some wonky bugs with that from time to time...I mean, I've massively fatfingered missing zeroes where I should have been left punching the wall - but the item never sold cause it never showed.

Heh, but it's not a charity thing, right? Nor is it about finding "Spot" the G14 [Ac/Dm][CrtD]x4 AP Array a good home with loving owners, right? It's about capitalizing on how the market's moving vs. the potential required expediency of the sale, yeah? If nobody else was buying, but somebody's looking to manipulate the market in the longer run and buys it...gets into that how soon does the person need the EC - can they play that waiting game, taking note of any movement...any trends/discussions taking place elsewhere...and so forth, yeah?

Agree with the above. You are trying to sell a Bentley. Bentley buyers are less common than say Lexus buyers (UR CrtDx4). I'd keep it as the same price, maybe even at 97-98M. It might not sell for a week or two, but eventually one of those bling bling types is going to be creating another character (Delta Recruiting) and will want his new dude to be rollin' the gold.

Actually, they might not - which gets into something else there, yeah?

They're Account Bound and not Character Bound.

Had to double check my [CrtD][Pen] APs...heh.

So yeah, might take it into that small% below what's there - maybe doing a bit of a dance with it - price it, watch, pull it, watch, price it, watch, pull it...

One might even be able to give the appearance there is some market movement if somebody else bites along the way. Dishonest? Well...er...uh...um...

Thing with the exchange is the high priced stuff is either too high priced, or you'll just need to wait it out.

If you want a quick buck just lower the price considerably below the lowest current one listed and someone will snap it up to flip it and sell at a higher price. You'll get your cash and they get an investment to make more cash on later.

If you really want the top price you have to play the exchange game. That means being willing to report it repeatedly to get the most desirable price and attract buyers. Eventually the price will drop to an amount where things start to sell, because it's a free market and the players won't pay more than what they feel is the value of an item.
I had a Manasa escort out of a lockbox a while back and i looked to see the price it was listed for; 160 million EC. But within less than 2 days that had dropped by at least 20 million EC as people selling jockeyed for the sweet spot where people would be willing to buy.

Everything on the exchange sells for the price people deem to be acceptable. Overpriced stuff really does not sell, despite people's opinions on things being overpriced. Some stuff on the exchange is expensive yes, but nothing that actually sells is overpriced because someone out there was willing to pay for it.

I would say be patient. The more expensive an item is, the longer it will take to sell. You can drop the price a bit over time to entice people with lots of EC to buy it. Personally, I would not purchase it because it is too rich for my tastes even though I have enough EC to buy it.

You shouldnt forget the events running. With the promo event, there are a lot of players trying to get a jem strike and invest money into promo packs or the ship itself. We have seen a price drop on other items just before the event started. Good time to invest money, not so good time for selling.

    yea double whammy...
    - by now anyone who wants such things probably has them, its been ages since DR came out
    - by now, anyone who wants them probably has crafting leveled enough to make their own (you only need like rank 7 or so to craft MKII purples every click).

It will sell if you put it up for an affordable price. If you think it is still worth 200 million, well .... it ain't. I would not pay over 10M for it now.
