NPC Medics not "medicking"

I came to understand that the BOFF Science Officers don't heal you when you're in combat.
They do quite a bunch of hings, save for the most important one.

It would be nice if these BOFF's started doing what they are supposed to do: keep the others alive!

Thank you.

Comments, remarks?
Do post them, but refrain from flaming/trolling/and the likes.

Thank you.

My boffs seem to heal me just fine. I need to ask, are you sure they have any healing skills?

Mine does heal me perfectly, but obviously they need to be skilled with heal-abilities, those shouldnt be turned off (marked red) and should of course also be slotted.

I suspect that there's some randomness going on. For example, my sci using an ability when there weren't any enemies within range to use it on.

Mine are random, sometimes they heal just fine, other times they stare at the wall until everyone dies, then charge the enemy while I'm pounding call for help ...

Teach them Nanite Health Monitor. They'll fire it off before anyone needs it but that's OK since it will wait up to N seconds until someone gets hurt.

Boff AI is really slow, so they need multiple heals to be effective, and I am unsure, but does boff quality affect how often they use powers?

This. While healing works fine for me it happens regularily that my healing boff just starts to heal randomly, even when the target isn't injured. That, of course, puts the heal on cool down - if I need it then, well... Maybe the OP experiences something like this? Same thing happening with engineering boffs who will randomly spawn their pets without any enemy in sight, especially in the dyson BZ.

The moment I get Nelen Exil he becomes my healer - 90 second CD self rez is just too good not to use him...

I always set him up with Tachyon Harmonic 1, Vascular Regenerator 1, Medical Tricorder III and Nanite Health Monitor II...

I find this setup is very solid as a healer... Additionally, anyone you use as a healer really must have the Superior Creative trait, which provides 20% additional healing...
The entitlement is strong in these forums...

Boffs are really dumb. They pretty much just spam whatever abilities and devices they can (funny if you give 'em party poppers, they start spewing balloons in every battle). You want them to heal you consistently, give them nothing but healing powers.

He, not as funny if you actually give them hypos or batteries - the full stack will be eaten up before the first hostile encounter is over XD

    Slow?
    Non-existing here to me.
If it was going any slower, it'd be walking backwards!

Consider the weapon you give your boff. Some weapons, like miniguns, do cancel out boff powers or take very long, so it looks like your boff is doing nothing...but actually waits for the weapon animation to end so he can use another skill...

    Mine seem too trigger happy.
They love to engage enemy, which is fine on a lower level of combat, but I like to have some resistance, and play in advanced mode.
    And right there, they fail.
Simply NOT healing me, but trying to kill the enemy.
Doctors should not keep themselves busy attacking an enemy, but healing my sore TRIBBLE.

And yes, they often heal me when things are fine, heh.
Makes one wonder what kind of Docs they are!
"Oh, he's fine, let's heal him BEFORE HE GET'S HURT!"

And my BOFF Doc has a phaser.
    Just saying. :)

You could take their phasers away and then they wouldn't shoot the enemy. Of course, idiots that they are, it's possible they might go off Leeroying the bad guys with their bare hands instead. :D

If all else fails, you can always set them to "passive" and click their heals manually.

    ... aha.

So we figured out, after 5 years, that Boffs dont use their healing abilities or at the wrong time?

I have three healers and they heal me and each other no matter how the away team is combined.

    Seems you've been there.
They seem to think, becoming unarmed, that they become Bruce frikken Lee.
If they were Vulcan, they could neck-pinch, but they're not.

Bringing them to passive is just as deadly, some combat support is fine as well.

Going manual... I am too busy getting ganked by the bad guys, so no option either.

    From my experiences:

    1. I usually give a "stand off" weapon like a sniper rifle or pistol to my medic. Sniper means the medic usually engages from range, pistol has short animations. This keeps the medic available to use abilities.

    2. I've noticed the thresholds of the heal(s) can be quite low. I've seen a BOff take 1 5% loss to health and medic's over there tossing his LtCmdr heal on him, then it's on cooldown for when it's really needed. Other times, however, if I'm the lead man in, I've drawn the Nanite Health Monitor off my BOff on that first hit and forgot to put my nanites on...

    3. Why can't I train my medic BOff in Triage? :P AoE heals > single target ones...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

that's exactly what I do. I gave my healers the sniper rifles to force them to stay back.

One thing that has yielded good results for me is to disable the lesser-desired abilities in their power tray. It seems that their scripting does a quick check to see if it's available and if not they go down the rotation.

That can be annoying on some maps though: on Nimbus they'd keep sniping at distant packs of the scorpions and drawing them towards us.

Along that note, they need to fix the AI of the EMH Mk 1 and significantly buff him. Whenever he gets spawned when I use a hypo, he immediately charges head first toward the enemy to attack him using his fists.

His heals are pathetic, especially for an Epic Doff.

    Aye.

Snipers, how jolly that is. Then my BOffs start sniping, whether I am ready or not.
    "Oh look, a Klink"
    *PEW*
And the rest is quite known I guess.
    Dead team.
Sniper rifle, who invented that thing.
Should be slapped for a week, IMHO.

yes, I deslotted him for that reason and have him assigned to doff duty

not an issue for me. Really not. then again, my boff team is pretty well armed

Really? I don't usually notice but that'd explain why mortars keep getting spawned by my team

if you want them healing give them nothing but heals... they pop any and all abilites when cool down is over I find...

give em a stack of hypos and shield recharges... gone in under 10 mins. they pop em when cool down is over...

I use 1 dedicated healer... nothing but heal skills. that tends to work... as for devices, nothing but non consumables... tribble, combat pet, cane or shard or trolic enhancer...

if rom the gas mask... dont want those clogging up bank. wish they could be replicated once the mission is over.

Actually... if you use Mortars, it's not the BOFF that does it but the Mortar itself. Mortars keep firing as long as enemies are in range and don't stop until everything is dead. They don't care if that enemy group has been engaged yet, they just fire. Also Mortars ignore line of sight, so they can engage enemies that are behind rocks and stuff. Then when that enemy group engages because of the mortar fire they make more mortars. It's kind of a vicious cycle that only stops when either side gets wiped out. Nimbus can be an almost endless battle like this. It can be fun, but eventually I get bored of it.
