Wouldn't do it.
Just like Star Citizen. Show me a finished product.
Edit: A company like PWE, would already have some % of income being dedicated to R&D.
Why would you want to "pay twice" for something they should be working on anyway ?
If they make a new engine, and its better...great.
I may support a kickstarter project(s) but not for the game engine. why? because something as fundamentally important as the game engine should be funded and done by cryptic/pwe if the community start paying for the engine on their own then the community might as well make it's own game.
cryptic/pwe have a licence for one of the most popular franchises of all time = they will always make plenty of money. so for them to need community money from kickstarter project for something as fundamental to the game is just plain wrong.
if it was a kickstarter for a k'vort then I'd consider it just to prove geko wrong
Unless by "upgrade" you actually mean "replace", then there's no point in it since they would basically have to make a whole new game. One more Taco post to support that:

Or say a KS for a Romulan T6 science ship -- we put in our $25 and if the KS is funded they make our ship.
That would let Cryptic see if offering the ship would be profitable or not: Set the KS goal high enough to cover the ship development. If we make it happen, then later C-store sales are pure profit.
I would like to politely suggest that Cryptic makes more than enough money, there is no need for any Kickstarter craziness.
Sometimes I do wonder about people who suggest things like this. If someone hits you with their car, do you apologize for scratching the paint on their car and offer to buy them a new one ?

I would fund a Kickstarter project that introduces at least two T6 science ships each for the KDF and Romulan factions (meaning at least 4 ships in total).
We support the game whenever we make purchases in the Cstore, so there is really no need for a kickstarter project.
Can't buy any T6 KDF or Romulan science ships from the C-Store if none are offered.
There is only the Dyson Science Destroyer for the Romulans. The KDF has the Varanus and the Dyson Science Destroyer.
The Federation Dyson Science Destroyer is arguably the worst T5 science ship available to the Federation in the C-Store. The KDF and Romulan versions are basically "cut & paste" versions. That essentially means the KDF and Romulan Dyson Science Destroyers are inferior to just about all of the T5 Federation science ships in the C-Store.

err kickstarter is a donation just pay them money and give the ships or whatever to someone else, purchase some of those r& D packs or something and give it away to your fleet or something...
....If you want to donate to them just open your wallet and randomly purchase something it has the same effect. Or purchase a lifetime sub or something. Then you have donated them money and got a virtual item to use or give away.
But with a KS we can get something specific in return, like the missing T6 science ships.
Right now, Cryptic apparently thinks making those ships won't be profitable enough. A successful KS would prove them wrong.
yeah this is not true there are less romulan and kdf ships because there is less design content for them however they are churning out what they can and the stats seem comparible on many ships I mean I have 3 klingons and a romulan I seem to be able to purchase ships for them really they are just reskinned fed ships with a couple of variations in skills. They have not released any t6 carriers yet but i suspect those will be along shortly. They just released a pile of ships so dunno man just pick one and use it. The only thing i dont see anything of yet is a carrier but there are lots of destroyer and battlecruiser type ships.

T6 ship are Cryptics own designs with styling queues from previous ships, therefore "design content" is not much of an issue.
Create KDF and Romulan science captains and see if your words holds true when you attempt to purchase a faction specific ship with a Cmdr and Lt Cmdr science stations and has Sensor Analysis from the C-Store.
DR invalidated my Rom alt, overnight. I had all the trimmies for her, lockbox ships, Lobi consoles, Zemoks, the works. She's never been the same again. I can hardly even keep upgrading my main as it is. I had to abandon my alt.
And then they have the audacity to become 'alt-friendly' by... wait for it... asking me to create yet another alt! Nie wieder, as the Germans would say.

Besides, they already make tweaks to the engine in the background according to Taco.

So they already upgrade the engine in that sense.

Yep, I'm flying the free Breen carrier because Cryptic won't let me pay them cash monies

.. well...
Exactly.
After DR and the shenanigans that followed, no.
You feel cheated about that?
Thank god you werent here for the Medlas -> Dil conversion.
you should just buy multiple lifetime accounts and use the zen to buy keys and resell those...
