I was just reading the patch notes and I saw this:

"Players should no longer be able to use party powers such as the Disco Ball on other players around the statue of Spock on Vulcan."

Thank you chaps, much appreciated :)

If I "+1" this thread will I have one of my forum naughty-points removed?

But seriously good on them for disabling disco balls at that location. Those dreadful things never should have been made in the first place though.

Just thinking aloud here: The patch notes say that disco balls cannot be deployed around the Spock statue. I'm wondering how far one must go from the statue until disco balls are deployable, and whether or not it would be possible to simply make a wider ring of party amplifiers around the statue area, if not around the statue itself.

It's probably nothing, this thought, but I think it might be work checking out, if only out of simply curiosity.

I have around 300 left so I'll gladly stop by and assist in testing the theory.

Yes thanks Cryptic, next step is to get them removed totally, they should never have been in the game, nothing so divisive, so out of place and such an obvious trolling tool should be allowed in Star Trek Online imo.

    +1

If dental flocks to it, there's a good chance it needs to go.

this quoted text from the SRS webite: "One of the main reasons SRS has done so well is because it has been lucky enough to have a fine crew at the helm. The other reason is the relaxed attitude and the ability to never take itself too seriously, this is after all a game and we are all here to enjoy ourselves."

All I can say is stop being a hypocrite.

Not taking yourself too seriously doesn't mean you're okay with being trolled.

I'm glad cryptic does something to fight against the trolls instead of trying to profit off them. When I was playing eve online for 5 years all ccp did was support everyone's bad behavior and added more cash shop items in favor of them. I finally got tired of all that and looked for alternative space games like this one, loving it so far.

i wouldnt say removed completely just only allowed to be used on dance floors. i havent been to the new ESD so no idea what they have now but there used to be a room sectioned off for that TRIBBLE. risa another agreeable location with that dance platform there in the middle thats used during events. and then on nimbus is another dance floor. maybe in the redlight district of qonos but noplace else not even the bars. what the kdf needs is a bar fight ball to pop off and make people pull out their knives and start fighting but only usable in the bars.

And we will be there, too. To relay to the community, your no fun zone, needs to be off Vulcan completely.

Go back to Drozana, it is no longer fun anymore. Maybe ask the devs for your own "fun zone", aside from Vulcan.

IMO though, the best TROLL you guys could do IS NOT MAKE IT SO OBVIOUS, you guys really have poor taste in trolling, the way you do it. That or someone start taking the focus on that conglomeration. You guys have a great asset, yet you use it completly WRONG.

What happened to Dental? Butts opened right up to me the other night. Told me everything, and i even captured it :D

You guys are slipping.... really. You used to be so good and fun at what you do, now you guys just run the name of Starfleet Dental in the ground. Butts sorta seemed dissatisfied with that fact.

TO many of you doing the "short con" trying to make people break the ToS so they get banned.

Id share it, but like i said before, I don't show my cards when playing poker, why would i do it in star trek? :D

Really in the end, the disco balls need to go. They are not even fun anymore. 2 years of annoying dance crapola... Give Dental, and the rest of the game, something new to do this summer besides spam disco balls cryptic... please. Something just below the annoyance of disco balls, like an exploding tribble shooting gun, that just shoots exploding tribbles, nothing else. And make em Risa Exclusive.

Seriously, Grats to the community for standing up to this one.

To be honest, I was never bothered by them, even at memorials. I don't feel "trolled" just because someone did something that made my character dance. That would be like saying someone was trolling me because they said something that made me laugh.

If my character starts dancing, I am not in fear, or hurt.

Now, when someone does something in a mission to purposefully keep you from being able to complete it, like blocking progress with shields, or other stuff like that, then yes, they are trolling.

But party poppers are not keeping me from respecting Leonard Nimoy. When I go, it is to pay my respect, not to troll those that use party poppers. They are not hurting me at all. I pay my respect, and go. I don't wait around to find something to complain about.

Honestly, I think that if Leonard Nimoy saw the party poppers, he might have laughed about it. I know I would have.

Thank you for visiting our website. Generally this philosophy has served us and other fleets well. Having a good time, enjoying ourselves is all very well but that should not be at the expense of other players or people, that goes for ingame and in real life.

You're welcome, and it's a pretty decent site by the way. I do have to wonder though... Do the disco balls cause a person physical pain in real life? Do they cause an in-game character to suddenly burst into flames and die a horrible death? Ok I could honestly see a problem if the flashing lights were affecting someone with photosensitive epilepsy, but even that is only around 3% of people who have epilepsy. Now if there's an issue with mental anguish because a persons character in a game is dancing, well I'm sorry but I would honestly have to say that person should seek out a mental heath professional. It's a game, trolls will be trolls, they will never go away but why not just stop and enjoy a few seconds of really bad dance animations?

but there is no doubt everything that affects socipathic roleplayers will be removed from the game. The game is made for roleplayers by roleplayers ....the entire ip is locked to make a game for 5000 weird people who fight calories and npcs all day long.

Your right, they do not hurt anyone. But why should a group of trolls be able to make people dance unwillingly, while they are paying respects to the best Star trek troll of them all.

Have you heard Leonard Nimoy sing?

    Now that is proper trolling.

I want the balls gone simply because they are old, and outdated, and no longer fun. To start dancing randomly, is kind of expected in certain places.

If they are gonna put stuff like that in game, i would prefer something new, and not disco balls.

Shshsh! Don't give everything away. Nabreeki is the anti-discoballer's undercover counter-griefer. He's been working to get the disco balls and other tools of griefing removed by encouraging SFD into acts of stupidity so the devs will get pissed off and take action.

devs? You mean the roleplayers? There are about 5000 roleplayers left in the game. The entire game is designed for gambling and roleplaying. What devs? You dont need devs for that. You need a group of amateurs ,a cheap game designer and a ip that sells with not much marketing.
