Coming back to the game and i need help?

Hi everyone!

First off I would like to say I am sorry if this post is in the wrong place, I was unsure of where to put it.

Ok so as the title mentions I am coming back to the game, I have played off and on since I pre-ordered it years ago. I have a few characters but since there is a new level cap I wanted to play my main, which is currently level 51 (Fed- Tactical Officer). So i have a few questions maybe someone can help me with.

While I have played on and off, it still has been a while since I really got into it, so I am confused about a few things. First off, getting new ships. It seems I either need to be a high rank in a fleet or that I need to buy Zen to get a new T5 ship. Being that I am not in a fleet at all, and the ones that I have been invited to are very small and do not have T5 unlocked at all, I am not exactly sure on how to go about getting a new ship. I would like to get an escort T5.

My next question stems from the first, which is, how do I go about looking for an active fleet for my level? I have tried posting in zone and local chats, and the fleet's I have been invited to are either very new, or very small. I have even used up all my dilithim helping out these small fleets on their base because I felt bad just leaving, but I really would like a bigger fleet with an active base group and I am just not sure on how to find that.

My last question is on duty officers. I'm actually kind of totally lost with them so any advice would be helpful. what I do know is how to start them on missions and collect those missions, but other than the rewards those missions give, is there any point to them, as in, does completing a branch of missions reward me with anything? Also, how do I get more without buying them with zen?

Thank you for any responses to this!

There are various channels that allow you to purchase items from their fleet. Obviously, you need to belong to a fleet that has provisions of the right type available and enough fleet credits for the fleet item. However, Fleet ships are different. You need to have enough fleet credits and Fleet Ship Modules for the ship and join a Fleet with the appropriate type of Shipyard.

However, as long as you are not doing Elite content or PvP, then a regular Tier 5 ship is good enough. Also, there is the C-Store if you want to buy a Tier 6 ship or the Exchange or C-Store if you want to upgrade your ship to Tier 5-U with a ship upgrade token. For a Tier 6 Escort, the Phantom is something that you might want to look at. You missed the Tier 6 Anniversary grind ship from last month which is available for free by doing some work each day, but it was a Cruiser and the Summer one will show up in a few months.

The bigger fleets have websites where you can contact them to see if they will let you join and sometimes they will post in chat.

For duty officers, you can acquire them at Starfleet Academy or the Klingon version by doing a certain duty officer assignment. They usually give white and green duty officers and you can purchase additional duty officers from the Exchange or Fleet using fleet credits.

Maxing out your Diplomacy/Marauding commendation gives an enemy faction bridge officer and Transwarp options to various locations. You can acquire contraband which can be converted into dilithium, equipment, and skill points which is needed for the Specialization system.

    hi garrettwvs1,

    When you go looking for a fleet it's important to find one that suits you. Most active fleets do post on the forums but like starkaos said the larger ones have their own web sites which will give you a better idea of what they are about. If they have a site they will likely mention it in their forum recruiting posts. Some things to consider;

Playstyle: PvE, PvP, RP: fleets may be focused on one in particular or include a bit of everything.

Casual /Serious: Do you play a little or often it's likely to be one or the other but some fleets have both.

Formal/Informal: Some fleets just like to have fun together. Some have chains of command and think you should salute them in game. Sometimes ranks just measure time in and dumps some organizational responsibilities in your lap if you want them but you don't have to call anyone sir.

Open/Vetted: If you pass through ESD you may find yourself hit with a fleet invite. Other fleets may require you to submit an application to join at their web site. If you take the time to research fleets before you join them strongly consider the latter. If they offer you a place in their fleet without knowing anything about you would it be worth belonging to? Maybe, but I would be surprised. If already invested the time finding a fleet that feels like a good fit it is worth taking 15 minutes or less to apply.

Both starkaos and horridperson already covered the basics when it comes to finding a fleet. Look around on the forums, ask a bit in the Fleet Administrative section off the forums. Make sure to join a fleet that suits your playstyle, otherwise youll just become unhappy.

If you want, you can always check out the Delta Task Force: http://sto-deltataskforce.webs.com/. Even if you decide we are not the fleet you are looking for, you will have an idea of what fleet searching can look like.

About your escort, you have multiple options. You can pay/grind zen to get the T6 Phantom, which is a very good ship. You can get one out of a fleet store and upgrade her to T5U. Or you wait a cople of months and see what the summer event will bring. If anything, you can get the T5 Risian Corvette, upgradeable to T5U for free.
