So after skimming the recent blog about the "Delta Characters" it seems like the new guy, (I forget the his name and company title, the head STO producer guy), is trying to subtly revert what Geko did with the leveling grind. I think the next step would be to increase the amount of bonus XP weekends.
Additionally, the Delta Character makes alts a little more attractive whereas Geko made them a pain in the a**. This is a step in the right direction.
So far I like him. Well have to see how the new season goes to see how and if this new leadership affects the quality of the content produced. I have hope, and I think this guy is the light STO has needed.

I got the same impression: Geko has been nerfing XP/Dilithium rewards everyhwhere, and the EP seems to be reversing that course.

I'm guessing that the "event" is a way for the new EP to dip his toe into the waters so to speak and see how metrics are effected by reverting certain changes temporarily so he can go back to his PWE overlords and say "See I told you so."
The issue is, as much as I disliked certain things Geko did and laid claim to, PWE had a hand in it too, trying to make STO more Neverwinter and Perfect World with it's "Asian-style" grind and P2W. PWE was just smart enough to do it gradually.
So while the new EP can reverse everything that Geko had a hand in, to counter the things that his PWE overlords had a hand in, he needs metrics (since we know metrics > fun in STO) to counter them.
Lets hope this works, because if it doesn't I honestly see him quiting and Geko coming back and STO being dead in a year.

Agreed. Folks, Geko didn't do anything without EP permission. So saying salami is reversing it all he did is quite 100% incorrect.

Yeah, Geko's had a checkered past with the player base, as a result of speaking before thinking generally, but he does indeed cop a bad wrap alot of the time for decisions that would not be his, and have been passed down from people above him...
As a team leader where I work, I cop flak for actioning the decisions of management, as I'm the guy who has to pass on those instructions onto my team and enforce them, whether I agree with them or not...
I'd like to point out that the bad rap Mr. Rivera has with the playerbase is largely self inflicted. I am fairly sure the remarks Geko made about spoiled fourteen year olds way back when did not come from nor were they condoned by any of the EPs.
Perhaps if he spent a little more time being Lead Designer instead of trying to be Lead Singer in the band, he wouldn't catch so much flak.
One of the most positive changes Salamiinferno could impose on the Dev Team would be to severely cut back on Geko's face time in public. Out of sight, out of mind.

Yeah, it was Stephen D'Angelo that started the whole lockbox bit and added in the first major grinds to STO. It shouldn't have been any surprise that this guy came back and took it a step further with DR. Besides, I never appreciated his condescending attitude. I remember with the whole SP debacle he made a post "EP Speaks".. that seemed really self indulgent from my perspective.
Stahl, too grand of visions when STO didn't have any money to do much with, but great when he finally got ahold of his own expansion. Legacy of Romulus was awesome and IMO put STO on good standing with other games.

I don't think it's all that black & white. The Executive Producer doesn't look over Geko's shoulder every step of the way. Like any other Manager, he sets global goals, and those at Cryptic need to meet said goals (or work towards their direction). It would be absolutely silly if Geko and his metrics (they're a team, you know) had to discuss every little nerf with the EP. The task and role of an EP is simply entirely different.
So, yes, I say it definitely looks like the EP is changing direction a bit. As 'The Decider', he has that power, and Geko -- like everyone else at Cryptic -- will naturally have to follow suit.

I really don't see how this helps with alts you already have, unless you start a new one. And even, it only helps out slightly.
I would prefer to see fixes to the game play that will address a lot of issues. While this is good for new players unaware of what awaits them end game, it will only affect existing players that want to regrind another character through the same content all over again.
Till he starts making changes for the better, without nerfing progress at the same time, all I see is more trying to cover the mess that DR was.
Keep in mind, I am not referring to the art, and some of the episodes. The complete lack of knowledge that the ones in charge had for how to improve game play.
If he can start fixing things, then I will see hope again in him. Till then, still disappointed.

Our new overlord hasn't graced the commanders chair with his authorative backside for much more then a month so far but pull up the patch notes since feb 5th and Ctrl+F the word resolved.
We are not off to a bad start on the bug fix front. ... Of course the big one is still horribly unfixed... If he gets us a resolution to AWOL Boffs he will have earnt genuine points with me.
Firstly, he has been insulting to the playerbase and should just keep his mouth shut.
Secondly, as lead designer all things in this game go past him to get in the game. True, the EP will sanction a direction and he can't be held to account for that. But the actual design of things - that's his remit.
Loadouts being messed up - his responsibility (and he just says on podcasts that nothing is wrong with it and its all working as intended).
Awful grind for spec points with ludicrously slow progress and the death-knell for alts - his responsibility (and he blames payers for cheating who try to do this as fast as they can and nerfs it more)
Death of PVP with totally unbalanced specials and new power trees - his responsibility (yer because a tac rom alpha SS3 coming out of cloak popping a dedicated tank is fun. Now kerrat is dead thanks to him)
One of the classic quotes was where he said he had no idea how the DPS guys could get 6 figure damage outputs (per second). He thought it was witchcraft. I am pretty sure it's his JOB to understand how that happens.
I frankly don't think a good DEV can be a good Game Master.

and your trolling with blast fishing, because?
its too soon to see any changes from the new EP, this is likely stuff that d'angelo set in motion before he left. it takes months for this stuff to go from drawing board to the finished thing and d'angelo only recently left his post. in a few months time we will see what the ep has in store first.

People seem to misattribute so much on the forums, it's pretty meaningless. Someone sure must have done all the terrible bad things and never had any good reason to do so, and someone else is just and good and just held back and responsbile for all the good things that happened in the game. Just pick a name you've seen somewhere and assume he is one of those two guys, and pick another name for the other.
Geko has been nerfing XP/Dilithium rewards everyhwhere, and the EP seems to be reversing that course.
Yeah, like that hefty dilithium nerf that patrols got.
What do you say? They never used to give Dilithium, and now they do? And all that while we still have the same lead designer? It must be a mircale/trick/new EP!
Perhaps if he spent a little more time being Lead Designer instead of trying to be Lead Singer in the band, he wouldn't catch so much flak.
And if people didn't use meaningless analogies that make no sense and tell us nothing, maybe we would have actual useful discussions.

We saw already a flurry of bugfixes under the previous EP. It's not something new.

My wish from EP, content designers (lead or not), programmers and artists and all is just t make sure that the magical lever for STO is always set to "Great Game" and not to "Terrible Game that is dying!"...

Personally, I can't wait for season 11, where his control is fully visible. I bet that'll be awesome.

Reps are fine we getting good stuff for finishing it per alt, Specialization on the other hand yes definitely.
My view a good coder thinks about what he can code and cannot code.
A Game Master thinks about people will play and what people will keep playing.
Example: New Romulas exploration we can case that says a DEV.
New Romulas what are you thinking, people will only go there to herd space bunnies.
