First off, I think it was a bad decision to make the T6 Jem'Hadar ship an Attack Ship rehash. A Battleship/Battlecruiser would have been more welcomed.
That said, I got it... paid for it on the exchange. I also have the other Jem'Hadar ships, and you guys failed to mention the 3-piece bonus which takes away the downside to the new console. With other bonuses to accuracy, damage, CritH, and CritD... the Dominion 3-console set has gotten a lot better. Still needs further testing.
Still waiting on the trait to unlock, but according to forum reports, it's bugged.
Further, by editing the blog for the previous Attack Ship promotion from stating "Tier 6 capabilities" to "Tier 5U capabilities" Cryptic is finally sending the message that Tier 5 Upgrades are not comparable with Tier 6 ships counter to what they've been saying since ship upgrades were first announced. So in one move Cryptic has not only devalued the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship, but they've devalued every lockbox ship, lobi ship, promo ship, and the entire ship upgrade system. As a player who has been more than willing to break out the credit card to take a chance on lock boxes in the past I no longer see any incentive to spend my money on lock box keys or ship upgrade tokens and I'm stuck sitting on a pile of lobi that's now worthless to me.
Perhaps the saddest part of the whole thing is that had Cryptic taken a previously unreleased ship, the Deep Space 9 Jem'Hadar battleship for example, and released it as the Strike Ship instead this mess could have been avoided entirely.
Agreed. Players have been quietly asking for access to the Jem'Hadar Battle Ship for ages. This rehash of the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship must have taken them about an hour to do from start to finish, including the "new look" - stretching the nose - and the Bridge Officer seating rejig. They didn't even bother to change the old 4/3 weapon layout to the more favorable 5/2 that the newer escorts have.
Lazy.
Free Tibet!
^^QFT & +1 .
... aka he said it better said then one of my rants , but I'll admit it, the clear road Cryptic has taken to devalue & resell my Lockbox ships has left me feeling damn cold ...
I have both the Vaadwaur Manasa and Strike Ship this weekend... gonna level up both, and swap mastery traits and see how bad this thing can dps like the old day
Also... the trolling of DS9 continues... lol
The Manasa trait on a cannon-ed Bug is awesome.
Still, it sets a precedent for lockbox ships to be outright replaced- but to look on the bright side, t6 isn't *that* much better than T5U and replacing the old lockbox ships would at least drive their prices down if you're shopping for one.
T6 D'Kora, anyone?
Completely indifferent, with a side of apathy.
While the mastery trait would benefit a wide range of people and builds, they (once again) chose to stick it on a ship only a very tiny fraction of the community will actually obtain. As for the ship itself, I imagine people will end up seeking it out moreso for the status symbol its predecessor built up rather than for what the ship itself actually is.
If I may hop on the soapbox for a moment: I am rather frustrated that development resources keep getting poured into these promotion and lockbox ships, but we still have very noticable gaps in the KDF and Romulan T6 ship line-up. (Neither have a full-fledged science vessel; KDF are still missing their _staple_ Carrier and Raider.)
Very dangerous precendent (but as you rightly pointed out it's not the first - as the Pathfinder did a similar thing albeit on a smaller, non-gamble scale).
Personally - as a JHAS owner - I do not feel entitled to a free upgrade (despite them having promised that during the last promotion).
However, I feel very VERY strongly that not offering ANY upgrade path (and effectively nullifying any investment that was previously made) is a STUPID decision. The investment required for lockbox/promotion ships is VERY LARGE and having this to eventually become worthless makes it not worth it. As a player I now look at the new ships (be they c-store purchases or lockbox/promotion gambles) and I ask myself the additional question is it really worth it given it will become obsolete at some point? Previously to DR endgame ships would remain mostly competitive so a player's investment would never be wasted.
Considering how the rate at which Cryptic are churning out new +1 ships/powers/abilities - think T6-intel, T6-fleet (lockboxes), T6-command(fleet), and now T6-command/intel, this compounds the problem and you are now talking about months rather than years for such obsolecence to occur.
Personally I would have loved to see Cryptic monetise the new tiers of gamble/promotion ships via a direct upgrade path. I would have paid 1,000Z for an upgrade token to turn a JHAS into a JHSS (ie not free) but since I have already done the gamble I don't think I should do it again. The problem is when they start doing this across ALL historic gamble ships, I will pretty much stop playing (as all of my 10 toons fly lockbox ships and I simply don't have the resources to do all of that gambling again).
...#LLAP...
The ship so far is a little underwhelming... given I have to sacrifice some slots to equip all 3 pieces of the Dominion space set.
ISA kicked my Bug's TRIBBLE, couldn't even complete it cuz we failed the optional and the NPCs are unusually tougher than normal
Otherwise in CE, it did just fine... first place everytime
LOL. Glad I wasn't the only one who had trouble with that. It's at the bottom of the page rather than near the top as it usually is.
I'm not all that excited about the Bug Ship. Frankly, the only promo ship I care about is the Suliban Cell Ship. I have one on my main, and might pick one up for one of my more-used alts. I use the services on the bridge every day. Every day. I can't say that about any of my other ships, not even my T6 ships. When T7 comes out some day, the T6 Bug will be eclipsed by the new shiny, but I'll be watching the JHSS's prices plummet from the exchange on my bridge.
