Ship Creativity

Can we be able to make are own starships in a sence? Like, for all those ships we get, we should be given an option to make our own ships as we get more parts. For example, if we get a sleek starship like a Majestic class, and we want to add a different neck to it (like a galaxy class ships neck), why can't we be able to do such a thing?

Now, they would be limitations, like not letting someone build a ship that would otherwise be built with Zen, but for the most part, just getting a little more freedom with customization. If you can do it with your character, why not your sharship? Same for paint, you should be given the option to paint it however you want with custom colors.

When half of Trek is ships, and the rest is ground, it is dumb why 50% of the game is more supported than the other 50%. I honestly don't think its 50/50 anymore to be honest.

Thoughts, oppinons, and comments are welcome as always. :)

Along these lines, what I'd like is a visual effects slot. Right now you get visual effects from the shield and impulse engine, but I'd like to be able to (say) slot the Jem'Hadar visuals while using the Romulan space set.

Star Wars TOR is much better about this since you can slot color crystals and use dye packs, both of which are separate from the gear effects.

So, color crystals for warp and impulse trails, dye packs for the ship skin.

It's a lot easier to have a default uniform model to sit atop a character model compared to a ship model (or parts of a ship model) to interlink with each other. The creation of characters and clothing, by comparison is relatively easy.

When creating a ship model (or ship skins for existing models) that has to be taken into account before work is started. Each and every ship you see that you can customize has been (for the most part) likely thought through in some detail before the ship artists have gone to work on those designs.

There are a couple of exceptions, such as the Exeter, Regent, the new Intrepid (can't remember it's name) but most ships are designed to be reconfigured with each other before launch. For your request to happen, each neck, nacelle, saucer and hull (or at least those you wished to use) would have to be cross compatible with each other, and that would take a LOT of work to pull off.

    It's just not practical.

the only thing that I'd have expected with us by now is the ability to use all and any visuals we'd like, provided we own them. If we own the Nukara Deflector, but with to use the Aegis Deflector with the Nukara visual, I'd think we should be able too. That's the only request I'd currently make of the art team.

Yeah, its a nice idea, but for this reason I don't see it happening.

Respect to all posts, I see the point

but at least we should have a full ablility to paint the ship. I mean, some designs are just TRIBBLE, others are to much, and its really annoying. if I want my ship yellow, why cant it be all yellow?

colors should be the only thing added, in regards to ship modlings difficulties.

I don't see this "ever" happening, seeing as how Cryptic has pretty much given up on making even different hull types from variants matching up.

Just look at the revamped intrepid model and the Pathfinder, try putting the intrepid saucer on the pathfinder hull without it looking very dorky. :P

There was something in a recent live-stream, where Smirk was joined by a couple of the design team (I think it was one of the Command Ship streams), they did touch on adding the ability to select shield-based hull-skin unlocks, working in much the same way as uniform unlocks, allowing you to use Shield ABC, but display Shield XYZ as the skin...

Apparently it's something they would like to do, and acknowledged there's been many requests from players for this option, but no indication when, or even if, it's going to happen...
The entitlement is strong in these forums...

I'd love to be able to take sovereign parts and put them in a miranda/nebula style configuration, but its unfortunately never gonna happen.
