I am just curious as to how people are playing these days, in order to gain those spec points the quickest. I never was in a hurry really, but if I was in the mood, I'd go to Argala and/or do a few Red Alerts. With the time gates everywhere installed now, i usually do:
- Argala
- Red Alerts
- some Tau Dewa Sector Block Systems
- a few STF's
Even though they have "upped" the XP gain here and there, it still feels like it'll take forever to finish one point, let alone a spec tree now... And i wonder, why does it has to be that way, why is it so important that the output is still so little and meaningless... what's the most efficient way for YOU to counter this atm?

I don't grind for specialization points and still gather 3-4 each week. Content i play differs. For the last few days i have done a lot of tau dewa, tholian alerts and CEA.
Starbase 24, big dig, ksf are fun. Undine battlezone and solonae sphere. Voth battlezone annoys me for some reason, probably due to the swarmers.
Sometimes i do a replay of the kobali missions especially since they're pretty easy. Rarely do DQ patrols though since it is lagging like crazy. Opponents aren't that hard, but the lagg is annoying.
Replaying the episodes on advanced/elite is also a good source of XP/specialization XP
Edit: almost forgot. Foundry missions, although not the best source of XP/SXP are fun as well and a nice XP snack.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
I don't think there is one most efficient way to grind Spec Points. Seems like whenever I try to do things specifically for Spec Points, it takes far longer than I think it should and I have little fun whole doing it.
So I decided the following:
1) Since fun seems to be the number one thing the Dev Team is headhunting, I am only going to do the things which I consider to be fun. No matter what others think or say. If I think ESTFs are fun today, then I am playing them. If I think I will enjoy Foundry Missions tomorrow, then I will play Foundry Missions. I play STO to relax and unwind and enjoy myself. I already have a life and a job I really enjoy. I see no need to to replace either. So I am NOT going ingame to where the Dev Team wants me to to be. Why? because the parts of the game they pick are boring and not fun. Also because I want to severely TRIBBLE with these 'metrics" the Dev Team seems to be so concerned over.
As a side note: Dev Team, if Cryptic and PWE stopped worrying over the players you don't have and started being a little more concerned with the the players you do have, I suspect everyone would be much happier.
2) In the old Soviet Union, there was a saying attributed to the workers:
"As long as the managers pretend to pay us, we will pretend to work."
I think this idea is perfectly suited to the situation we have here with the Spec Points. The Dev Team has screwed with them and screwed with them and screwed with them to the point where I really don't give an airborne procreation attempt what they do with them any more. Whenever a GoldName comes here and begins talking about Spec Points, I immediately feel my brain cells begin to wander off and die.
tl;dr version: There currently is not an efficient way to earn Spec Points in the shortest time possible, so do not bother trying to find one. Spec Points will arrive when they want to not when you want them to. Besides you can be certain if there was an efficient way to earn them faster, the Dev Team just nerfed it into extinction five minutes ago.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
A good question to ask is: Why gather specialization points quickly?
There is lots of content to be played, play different things and have fun along the way. Why bother repeating a boring patrol like Argala over and over again when you can de episodes, stf and foundry.

Think it's min/maxers who get hung up on getting them quickly. Before this, reputation was clear daily progression. As a min/maxer I too want my characters optimized, but this wall is a bit too much for how much I play so I'm not even worried about it, and to be honest, it's not even affecting performance much.
I'm any case, I've been revisiting some old missions I haven't played in awhile along with a patrol here and patrol there and the points come when the come.

Well I am doing just that, each and every day I was just curious as to how people think about the situation after the latest patch, and get to know their approaches, how they look at things and use the system in order to advance, gain SP's.

They did nerf the specialization point gain for those grinding for them. Look at the rewards for Argala. They were reduced. That means that no matter what content you run now, you will never be able to get the same total xp for the same amount of time you did. So yes, for those grinding xp, it was another nerf.
The change only benefits those that were not grinding xp. They just get a little more xp for what they do. Whereas, what should have been done is give the same xp Argala was rewarding to all of the queued missions, and patrols.
They are trying to herd players into the content they want them playing, and to draw out the leveling process as much as possible in hope that players will stay in the game to keep grinding it out.
Personally, I am tired of all the nerfs to specialization points, when they lock access to stuff behind them. They do this, then claim that they don't want players grinding them out. Riiight. Like that is believable.
I have decided to just log in to do CC, Mirror, and maybe other events that they don't nerf. Between them, I will log in to refine Dil, and chat with friends. But till they stop punishing players for playing their game, I am not going to spend much time doing much of anything in STO.
I am having fun in Defiance, and Warframe. That is where most of my time has been spent playing.

Hey, here is a thought for a new Event Weekend - Bonus Spec Point Weekend. You go for them as you have but during the Weekend when you obtain a new one you get two instead.

If xp rewards everywhere are what Argala was giving out before this last nerf, then I would go for it. Otherwise, you will just be getting them at the same speed you were able to before this last nerf.
Think about it. It now takes twice as many runs in Argala to get 1 Spec point. That means that if they give a bonus point for a weekend, they will just be giving you the same rewards you could get before this last nerf. That would just be more of an insult to those trying to get them.
There is no way to fix the nerf, except by bringing xp rewards back up to what Argala was giving before the nerf. However, since they are trying to keep players in the game for as long as possible, without producing enough content for it, that would kill their overall goal. So, I doubt we will ever see that level of xp, except during bonus xp events. And even then, it is a lot less than what we used to get for those events.
What needs to happen is they need to stop nerfing the gaming experience, and start fixing the gaming experience.

I have ways that I earn them, I also have ways that I earn dilithium.
I don't want them nerfed.
Some may call me paranoid but for weeks people were boasting about the Voth BZ and then came the nerf... er, "rebalancing"
So, no thanks.
I'd have to agree with JS on this one. Sufficed to say that I'm waiting for the day when they turn around and say that those that have X amount of spec tree's/points allocated, have an unfair advantage to a fresh lvl 60 or what ever and make us choice a percentage from each active tree to run with.
At the end of the day they boosted the XP to Argala then acted all shocked and surprised when people were constantly running it over the other content and proceeded to nerf it and slap CD timers on patrols.
...having the game require you treat it as a second job for 6 months to a year just to get to the point of playing properly...
Dangit, now I find out I'm playing the game wrong. I thought I was supposed to be having fun. Playing dress-up with my Orion Boffs. Cruising about the galaxy with my Avenger. Murdering a few locals here and there when Starfleet orders me to. I'm not supposed to be having fun? Shoot.

When you're having fun in this game, it brings no money for cryptic.
Now if you are not having fun and instead are frustrated, you may end up spending money to try and get rid of that frustration. This makes cryptic money.

That's funny because I could have sworn that I was having fun and Cryptic just made some money off be by providing a product (ship) that I found interesting and have fun playing with.
How do I earn points? I play the game. Missions, STFs, Foundry, Alerts, DoFFs, etc. I get on, play a while, and I get points while I do it. I won't max out my points anytime soon, but I get them regularly. Best part is I'll still be having fun and progressing when the next round of crying for more advancement commences.
Why would anyone donate to this thread? It's just a honeypot for future nerfs.

i never really worry too much about specialisation points or grinding for them, i have done very little in the delta quadrant above playing the standard missions, i get about 1 point a week on each of my characters maybe 2 if they run a bonus weekend.
i got all of my character to Lv60 about 4 or 5 weeks after DR went live.
i just let the points build up and check once a month or so to see how many points i have to spend, last time i checked i had 6 on each character.
i play much of the same stuff as i used to, all the stuff i enjoy the most and is fun for me.
at the moment im playing the “All That Glitters” mission on my characters and have completed it on 2 of my characters so far, i have enjoyed playing through the delta story missions and i`ll get to finish them all one day.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Well I know it's definitely not by doing CE. It takes about 20 runs to gave 1 level of starship mastery never mind enough skill points for a specialization.
Yeah... just be all 007 about it... best way to make a change.
There is no paranoia just experience. Cryptic does not keep this forum up because of the good publicity 9 out of 10 posts around here do for new or possible future players. Its just part of their metric and considering in what way they have been tinkering with this game as of late they depend more on the information flow from us than we do of theirs.
1 spec point in 60 mins?
50.000 fleet marks (not credits!) in 3 days?
1 million Dil in a week?
Its all still in the game and no grind or cost attached to it. One just needs to play smart and by the rules till Cryptic decides to change them again.
But for every gap they seem to close a new one opens.
In my experience such things only happen when one does not know his own product and hast lost the touch with his customers.
