They know, but Leonard Nimoy did become Spock to so many. It's hard at times to distinguish between the man and the character, when both touched lives in such incredible ways.
And I hate to break it to you...but the older, Original Series Spock is dead just as soon as the writers in JJverse ST3 pen it in. And they WILL do this, everyone knows it - as an honor to a great actor and man who played the role.
The 'new' Spock will live on, but the real Spock has passed on to a better place. RIP Leonard Nimoy.
The other Spock will still be alive.
Failing to separate Nimoy from Spock does a great actor a great disservice.

Unless Nimoy has already filmed a segment to use in the new film, in which case he'll still show up.
And there is no 'Real' Spock. Merely actors getting paid for a role.
Depends on your perspective. From our position in the prime timeline, Spock was lost in the explosion of the Hobus system 23 years ago, presumed dead.
Presumed dead doesn't mean dead. Spock didn't die. Leonard Nimoy died.
There's a difference. They aren't the same person. If you can't separate the two then that's an issuie with yourself. Spock isn't dead.
Of course, that makes Cryptic's "Spock Memorial" seem a little bit weird. I'll see you at the unveiling of this immersion breaking, non-canon Spock Memorial with my party poppers.

Following the premature declaration of lost, presumed dead for the crew of U.S.S. Voyager amongst others, Star Fleet Regulation blah-de-blah, now insists on a 23 year Missing-In-Action status to be conferred upon the crew of lost ships.

Considering Spock's status, I have no problem with there being a memorial to Spock in the game. I don't find it "immersion breaking" at all.
I'm also fine with there being a memorial to Leonard Nimoy in the game. He deserves one just as much as Mark Valentine; they both contributed to the game. I consider that more "immersion breaking" than a memorial to an in-universe person, but that's just my opinion.
Ode to spock, with pointy ears, he brought joy to all for many years.
He danced with hobbits and wizards too, and also wrote ballads (just a few)
He liked fast cars, and women as well, but despite all his talents, his ego did not swell.
And so goodbye, and thank you lots, your legacy endures, and shall never be lost.
Probably because the character wasn't played by the same actor for nearly 50 years.
If you want to get pedantic about it, Nimoy didn't play Spock for anywhere near that long either.
4 years TOS
2 years TAS
5 years Films 1-5
1 year TNG & ST6
3 years Various ST games, including this one
2 years The two new films
17 years out of 49. With 4 of those years - The games & Into Darkness, being utterly forgettable (The same could probably be said for TAS, but I'll let that slide).
I saw this on Vulcan today, I felt it fits this thread:
[Zone] [Retracted]: It's funny I had a photo of Mr Nimoy as Spock that I kept in an old family photo album, I used to tell everyone it was the only photo I had of my real dad
You are actually only counting the time he was physically present on a set? LOL!!!
In a sense, yes. If someone got a Christmas job at the same department store for two weeks each year for 30 years, would you say 'This guys worked here for 30 years!'? Of course not.
Quinto has played Spock three times thus far, with a fourth upcoming. He's also got a voice in this game. Counting the upcoming film in 2016, he'll have played the roll for 7 years ~15% of the time Nimoy did.
But I digress. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how long Nimoy played Spock, or how long Quinto will. The fact is, its a fictional character in a fictional setting, and can be played by anyone. Heck, next reboot, why don't we have a blonde Asian female Spock?

Agreed. I think his work as William Bell in "Fringe" was among his best.

Let's not tarnish the memory of the man with such utter nonsense.
