IM sorry to say that as of today my subscription is cancelled and i for one will no longer purchase anything from the cstore until the continual lag spikes/rubber banding/ ui lag has been addressed , i will log in daily to do my doff missions but that it, the lack of commitment by cryptic/PWE to its player base is truely sad , either through complete ineptness or just plain "we cant be assed"
Since last weeks "fixes" the game has become unplayable for me i cant even do missions now without getting rubber banded all over the place

You shouldn't log in daily. That's probably one of the key metrics Cryptic is looking at, which is why so much stuff is gated around 20 to 24 hour intervals. If you log in daily, you're still way too active. You're still exposed to any special deals the offer, you might still be active on the Exchange (Dlithium and EC), you're still visible to your friends and fleet mates. You're practically still the same as before.
Will you really not buy a new ship if it's just up your alley? Look, you almsot got enough Dilthium to buy the Zen for the new ship on sale...
Better stop playing for real if you hope to send any message.
Which you may not - you may just be part of the background noise / fluctuation the game experiences all the time, just one of the few that opted to post on the forums about it.
Cryptic's prioritization on bug fixes, QOL features or new content will remain as opaque as ever to us... Only they know their goals, only they know the work required and the cost and benefits of it.

It's like a terminator robot that scans for any negative forums posts got unleashed on us and everytime a post like the OP's shows up, we get attacked with the same old, "get used to it or be terminated" kinds of posts.
My question is, why is anyone still doing monthly? The game is free to play, so wouldn't it make sense to play free while you save up enough to buy lifetime?
<dang I just made five edits in two minutes two a two sentence post. I need coffee>
I don't think this will do anything. For one, in one of the threads regarding the revamp of the Galaxy map there is a link to an article that states there is nearly 3 million accounts on STO. One person not logging on is a drop in the bucket. And second, after Taco's posting about players that pay vs. free players having equal footing, I feel bad for the OP that he subscribed in the first place.
In fact, I feel bad for every subscriber. It gets you nothing. A stipend? I mean, just save your dil. and convert it. After that what's left? Nothing. There is no perk. And after Taco did his posting, I'm convinced that subscribing does even less.

well, good. you should not pay for an unplayable game. But lag may or may not be their fault ... some of the traced routes posted here show isp issues, and some do not. Ive looked at it every which way and can't find any evidence of actual server lag most of the time. Things like the vulcan tribute with everyone in one sector, yea it lags a little, but generally, I can't find anything.
Any technical issues you can find and describe will help them run it down. Just cutting the cord won't. Check your FPS & ping if nothing else.

^+1 I hate to diverge from the topic of the thread but this has become an epidemic - not reading and not taking concerns of players seriously. People often lament the lack of Cryptic's presence in the forums - I say why when you have the next best thing - fanboys.

The lag, at least in my experience, was only noticeable since the Anniversary Event started (save for the occasional spike). I can't imagine that running the Omega minigame on every social map is a small task for the servers. I'd expect the ping to normalize a few days after the server clears itself of the Omega game, at the very least.
Also, login spikes for the Anniversary. Which means that the amount of players doing patches must be violent. Can't think about how big the patch would be if I missed a couple weeks' worth of updates, especially some of the recent ones.
One thing I heard during a Priority One interview was that the new boff training system was being a strain on the servers. Apparently, for special boffs such as Liberated Borg or mission rewards, these boffs had to be manually converted at first login. So while they could make blanket changes to all Humans, Andorians, Orions, etc. in the background, any of the special boffs on your team would only be updated to the new system at first login after the change. That ended up being a big drain.
So a bunch of things at the same time, all more-or-less ready to fix themselves as time goes on.
EDIT: also, OP if your join date was actually Dec '14, why did you immediately become a monthly subscriber for a free-to-play game that you just started? Cancelling your fresh subscription to a game you just started playing is more buyer's remorse than an actual statement.
The thing is, subscriptions should have always remained Cryptic's goal. the Free to PLAY element should have been exactly that. Free to play the core game (everything released up to the point when the game went free to play) but ANYTHING added after the fact would be monetized unless you subscribe.
The core game content should have a beginning, a middle, and AN end for FtPers. But for those who subscribe or elect to spend money, the story continues.
That's how LotRO did it, and they have had several expansions released, loaded with real gameplay content. And let's face it. LotRO is the biggest reason why so many MMOs have gone Free to Play.
Cryptic's choice not to put gameplay content behind a paygate is NOT so the community won't have to pay for it. the decision is NOT charitable. The decision was made so that Cryptic wouldn't have to feel obligated to work harder to keep playable content coming.
When STO eventually shuts down, all these ships and things we've bought will be rendered worthless, because they are only accessible so long as the server stays online. But if we had to pay for playable content like missions and new mechanics, then the investment would have been on the experience, the same way that money spent on dinner and a movie works.
This is nothing that hasn't been said before, though...
Yes. Exactly.
People still sub. Why? Because a sub keep a small steady flow of income going to Cryptic. That income helps maintain and grow the game. It is a predictable base line for operating expenses. F2p means they have to depend entirely on unpredictable purchases so the micro transaction few pay for the non sub non purchase few to play. If every player just paid $5 per month for a sub the whole game would be better off because that might be in addition to purchases.

So, you want people to have sympathy for you in your "time of distress"? Sorry but I have no sympathy for you at all. You decided to subscribe to the game, and now that you unsubscribed, that's not Cryptic's fault, that's on you and you alone. Good luck in all your future endeavors.

So... yes, it's a lag that's arrived due to single-time update and login spike issues. It'll even out in the next few days as the Anniversary Event closes.
Why make such a big deal out of dropping your fresh subscription then?
I expect lag and rubber banding to mostly disappear after the Anniversary Event ends. At least Cryptic extended the Anniversary Event due to the massive amount of lag and rubber banding when the event started.
Personally, I will be subbing again for one month in a few months since I created a few new toons since I last subbed for a month to get the extra bank and inventory slots. The 500 Zen will be a nice bonus.
He didn't say he was quitting... He said he was cancelling his subscription, but fully intends to log in daily.
He's just making it clear that he is now joining the ranks of the Non-paying Army.
The rubber-banding and lag MAY be the result of the Cogentco issue which Cryptic has zero control over. But continuing issues with internal systes ARE within their control.
What they should have done when the UI issues started rearing their ugly heads, was pull the updates that triggered them, go back to the drawing board, and work on it until it works, then re-release.
The community was not asking for the UI changes anyway. They were asking for new PLAYABLE content, and fixed bugs.
^^ Hear, hear!
The lag, especially in isa, has gotten extremely bad. Like I said earlier, unless your name is Elastigirl, don't tread there, as you won't be able to handle the rubberbanding. Cryptic would do well to take the rubberbanding seriously, and not just quicly lock threads (or relegate them to bug reports, whereas the lag is, most certainly, a general issue).
The thing is, subscriptions should have always remained Cryptic's goal. the Free to PLAY element should have been exactly that. Free to play the core game (everything released up to the point when the game went free to play) but ANYTHING added after the fact would be monetized unless you subscribe.

If STO had used this model, then like Star Wars and LoTRO, I would have never played enough to piney up the lifetime membership. Anything set behind a paywall on a free-to-play game means that I am not worthy of playing it. And if you don't think I'm worthy, I will go find somebody who does.
Subscription based games are different in that they say from they start, pay us if you want play. Everyone is treated the same. Equality of players is what's important to me.

This is a sad day indeed.
You've gone away. No game to play, the lag, it made you leave.
I don't now how, (you) somehow sloughed, along with no reprieve.
But now you're free, its plain to see, the bands are rubbery TRIBBLE.
You wont jump forth, with jiggery unsought, so lets just leave it, at that.

Maybe Cryptic should start involving the community in the process and actually start doing what the people (whom they want to spend money on their product) are asking them to do (within reason, of course).
Oh... and I want a unicorn while they are at it
There are ways around everything however, it's no secret that they haven't fixed their game in years when it comes ot this problem. We actually need more people like the OP to stand up and do this very thing not just because of the rubberbanding but because of the direction this game is going in. It's ridiculous actually if you think about it. Here it is supposed to be a AAA title, yet it plays like it's an indie game with no funding.

If u cant suffer people complaining QUIT reading the forums rather that trolling others. I remember u said the same thing about people posting about XP grind. Maybe cryptic eased up with the XP grind cuz they felt like it but maybe, just maybe someone there still listen.
Maybe some care about this game and want to keep playing it a long time, and for that they feel the need to give feedback the the devs. Are u working for cryptic so that u know 100% what they think ? Yes we all know Cryptic and we know that devs do things when they feel it necessary but there is no 100% way to be sure that people giving feedback are ALWAYS ignored. In fact its against human nature to say 100%.
