I have not been playing STO much recently due to focusing on other games but I am coming back to STO soon. I have not done much with the event, I got the kobali ship from comendations I had last year. Anyway, will the price of Omega particles go up a lot once the event is done tommorow? Do you guys think all of the cheapest stacks for it will be all sold before the event is over?
It depends if they plan on continuing the particle game after the anniversary is over. (They said they were considering it.) However, if they don't then the prices on the exchange will definitely go up. It's simple supply and demand.
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
if the materials can no longer be farmed and the new tab created in R&D is for events specials only then yeah expect the price to sky rocket until such an event starts again,
If they can only be farmed and are added to STF R&D drops again yeah expect them to go up in price but no more than current R&D materials. In fact the higher end ones Blue Shard and Fragment might even go down if they add the materials via this route.
Oh damn right. I confirm it without question. It is basic supply and demand economics.
If supply goes down, but demand stays the same (or goes up) then prices will increase, end of story.
In the case of the omega particles, supply is going to drop to ZERO but demand will stay the same or increase (likely increase in view as awareness of the omega tech upgrade will increase somewhat).
Yes, prices are going to increase and they will increase quite massively IMO.
Thing to remember here also is that there are a large number of people who have been farming these since the event started. That means there will be a fairly large supply for quite some time after the event ends, possibly all the way until the next time the devs re-enable the mini-game (the option to do so being there for other events besides the Anniversary, now that it is a known game).
So, will prices go up? Maybe. Will they go up very soon? Probably not. I'd say you are looking at a few months before the supply starts to fall. And, the possibility exists the devs may re-enable the minigame for another event before supply runs low, meaning the value of the materials would fall again with little or no warning.
Like any attempt at speculative trading, there is a chance things will go the opposite of how you think they will.
I and a lot of other people are taking the time to grind tonight. Price will increase tomorrow when the 2015 Anniversary Event is over. Prices on the Exchange has already started to increase in the past week.
From what I remember Omega Slivers sold for about 100k - 110k EC this past Monday. They are currently selling for 130k - 135k EC at the time of this post. Prices do fluctuate on the Exchange though.
Don't worry... the Omega Particle mini-game will likely come back for the 2016 Anniversary Event.

Wait till around mid next week when 1,000+ people realize the prices aren't sky rocketing cause 999 other people horded 15 stacks of 999 as well.
As with all these things... they will spike for a few days then drop through the floor when people realize they weren't the only ones that figured they where going to get rich quick. lol
By the time they start going back up Cryptic will find a reason to drop another omega scanning week/2weeks/month ect. You see my point... Cryptic loves people spending D on finish now buttons. The supply will NOT be cut off forever... and likely they will turn the tab back on when peoples stashes stop flooding the market.
Invest in something that isn't everyone and there space dogs get rich scheme. lmao
Of course they'll go up if the mini-game is disabled.
They probably already started going up in price days ago or longer.
They have already gone up dramatically...
I bought a couple bulk stacks of fragments about 2 weeks ago, fragments are now selling for roughly 10x what I paid then, when I checked again just a few days ago...
Expect it to bloat for about the next 3-6 months. But once players farther down the line begin to unlock more R&D Tiers and have immediate access to Advanced and Superior Upgrades the prices on the Traces/Slivers/Shards/Fragments should drop. Theyll eventually balance out based on the effort and amount of mats going into them. But for a short period of time those items will be rather pricey.
I myself have already taken note of the prices of each mat prior to the end of the event and will map the price increases so I can take full advantage of it when I feel its hit its peak.

People unlocking level 15 schools won't make any difference. Anyone serious about the game already unlocked them long ago. The real point however is that Superior and Experimental tech don't have tons of profit in them anymore. You only pay a 10-20% premium to buy them off the exchange.
Omega tech is unique... it is the easiest way to ENSURE 100% you have mk 8-9 Gold weapon every single time if your upgrading mk 2s using a booster. They are 2x as good as Experimental with zero D cost... and if you use a research booster it doubles the doubled number. Also if you use them on things like MK X fleet consoles, and Blue lobi consoles they have a very very high chance to upgrade the rarity with out having to drop tons of Tech and D. (really on average if your doing a ton of consoles its cheaper to buy particles from others and make omega tech to do it then craft or buy normal tech and burn D)
Really it all comes down to a few things... one will Cryptic remove there supply. (likely, however don't think anyone expects they are gone forever ever). Secondly how many of them people have been hording thinking they are going to cash in. If the answer to that one is lots of people, then there price fighting on the exchange will likely last until Cryptic starts dropping them in game again. (which if I was a betting man I would say they will be gone supply wise for 2 months tops... and more likely around the 4 week mark, cause Cryptic has made far to much $ off morons hitting finish now on 20min - 2 hr projects to create the particles)
I hate to rain on the "get rich quick" crowd... but Cryptic is the only ones that are going to be cashing in on this one.

1.) Anyone buying Superior and Advanced Upgrades on the Exchange (which was paying out dividends prior to the Omega Upgrades) are people who dont bother with farming mats or have not yet reached Level 15 for whatever matter. Most likely because they dont reup the project everyday. But eventually they will make it to 15 and it will more then likely be within the next 6 months with most getting there earlier then that.
2.) While Im sure plenty of people stockpiled. Not everyone stockpiling intends to flood the market with their mats. I have two stacks of each color but more then likely one set of stacks will go towards finishing up any gear space and ground I have not yet finished. That willl more then likely leave me with at best one stack to turn a profit on. Maybe not even that. But not everyone is seeking to make money off it. They simply see the value in having said resource for themselves considering the time and effort involved in upgrading prior to Omegas.
3.) In no way shape or form in my post did I indicate that the Omega Traces were gone forever. Not sure how that is even relevant here since they will more then likely not reappear if at all until after the Summer Event and possibly not until next years Anniversary Event. If they do remain in game in some fashion they will be extremely rare to come upon. The point of my post was to point out that in between the 3-6 month period of time the supply of stacks people post on the Exchange will eventually begin to run dry and people will return to using Superiors as theyll be easier to come by and cheaper.
4.) The eventual movement back to Superiors and Experimentals will drive their prices up while the Omegas still left on the exchange will stabilize. Im sure enough people out there will have enough to sustain enough of a supply of Omegas on the exchange for the year before we see them again. But regardless Superiors and Experimentals are only experiencing a downturn because of the influx of Omegas. They wont remain that way.
They've already gone up by 200k in the last few days. If the mini game is stopped (almost definitely will) expect prices to go up as supply is depleted.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.
If the minigame is removed, prices will go up. Not immediately, and there may even be an initial reduction of price as big farmers start putting their stock for sale, but over time prices will inevitably increase until they are too high to compete with regular upgrades or the event is re-run.
If the minigame is left in place, the prices will crash instantly.
It depends if they plan on continuing the particle game after the anniversary is over. (They said they were considering it.) However, if they don't then the prices on the exchange will definitely go up. It's simple supply and demand.
I think there was some idle chatter about the particles staying around, but are located off the path, in much the same way you get with traditional mmos that have a mining and grind element in order to keep the player ran economy going. if this is true, it may not be as wide spread, so i would guess if accurate about that idle chatter, that it would only have half the intended impact as some may expect, so price now plus 50% and then take away 25%.
but if the particles are gone for good until next year? expect the prices to skyrocket over the months, assuming any still exist by then.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

1) not true I have plenty of schools done I buy tech all the time cause its easier... I have billions and could care less about messing around with time gates. I am hardly alone in that. You assume that the only reason to buy tech is cause you can't make it... there are many of us that would rather let one of the little people make them for us. (that is a joke relax) My point is valid though, buying tech is easier and people will always buy it at a 10-20% mark up just as they buy commodities off the exchange cause letting someone else run to the vendor for you is worth the cost.
2) I agree many people have stockpiled for themselves... however many have stockpiled thinking there going to sell them over the next few weeks and get rich. Clearly the OP of this thread is asking should I stock up to get rich.
3) Its relevant for what others are assuming... that they will get rich cause once there gone they will just keep going up and up in value. My bet is there is enough out there people will be trying to dump that by the time the supply dries up to a point where there value really does go up... Cryptic will be dropping them once again.
4) I wouldn't assume that standard techs will go back up at all... and if they do it won't be all that much. With the pressure taken off the crafting supplies there is now a surplus of that out there as well... also many of the STFs that drop the purple mats have gotten easier for most people to complete which has driven the price down on almost all of the expensive components. We have also had 2 lock boxes now that drop R&D packs as heavily as the old packs drop doff packs. Tech is never going to raise much in price from where it is now... in fact I would guess tech is about to drop some more, and bottom out at around 10% over mat cost. Cause a lot of people that where dedicating there project slots to Omega stuffs are now going to be free to go back to flooding the market with tech.

Even a reduction in availability will drive the price up. There's probably a ceiling imposed by the relative cost of regular upgrades, but it's almost certainly higher than the current price.
But yeah, the Q event is gone, and we don't know when they'll be available in the future. Perhaps more importantly, we don't know how easy they will be to find in the future.
