GameClient failure issue

I saw that a few others have been seeing this and I am wondering how widespread this is. Game worked fine less than 14 hours ago - no changes to my computer or settings has been made. Thanks.

For me this issue started with the anniversary event and I have the slight hope it vanishes with it’s end.

I thought it was gone over the weekend but then again I wasn’t around that much.

You mean a random crash to desktop without any further information or prior warning?

Yeah, I have that. It seems to happen after some time. (For me it's most certainly less than 14 hours, since I don't play that long in one piece ever.)

Same here, its again from ntdll.dll, for me at least. Also known as ntdll.dll crash issue. Had this a few months ago and it corected itself. Now lately it apeared again. Its from Cryptic's end since I ran multiple scans, reinstaleed system and such. It will probably go away eventually.

Use Windows Event Viewer to investigate the source of your crashes.

    Hope it helps.

Thanks for that info. On some occasion after the crash the game asked me to file an automatic bug report upon re-launching, on most it does not though.

I filed that report (which can take up to 20 mins) on one time. Often I did not thinking it to be impolite towards my team if I keep them abandoned on elite pve maps during it.

These crashes are a pain and I really hope they vanish with the end of anniversary event. I haven’t found any comment of devs about the matter even though many systems seem to be affected so I think they simply do as well.

The way the crashes happen for me has changed since the last patch.

Now instead of getting the "gameclient.exe has stopped working" from Win 8 the game just freezes for between 10 to 50 seconds and then drops to desktop,

    No warnings. No error messages.

Its got all the hallmarks of a memory leak. I've looked at event viewer and at least the "faulting application" is being reported there.

Highly suspect that it's a memory leak, perhaps tied with the UI fixes.

Still no word from the devs about this.

I tend to get it while in the middle of combat (ground and space) or during transwarp loading screens. It's to the point where I can't do queues, and pvp kicks me off the map when I finally log back on.

I decided to come back to the game after 2 years of absence. I figured there would be bugs but man, the game crashes after about ten minutes of gameplay no matter what I am doing.

Same problem here since the last patch.

Can log on, take my hand off the mouse/keyboard, sit there doing absolutely nothing away from everyone, and it will crash after about 5 min.

Char screen if left alone for 5 min... crashes.

Running in safe mode worked once... once out of 15 tries to play today... then even it gave up.

Guess who will not be attempting to play again tomorrow... or the next day... or the next... or the next...

It's been an ongoing issue for a while since early December, they periodically fix it, then it comes back after a patch, like lastweeks.

I didn't play all weekend and just did a Crystalline Entity event and got it again, so for me it's back and it seems to be server side as they don't say it's been fixed in any patch notes but it just happens. I've tried everything from complete clean re-installation to asking for help from tech support (Which receives no help).

PWE's tech support people are about as much use as a chocolate teapot, unknowledgeable and in some cases plain stupid when I've contracted them as they ask for information I've already attached, I get the feeling they are just past caring.

Windows event viewer says the following

Faulting application name: GameClient.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x54ee72b3
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18247, time stamp: 0x521ea8e7
    Exception code: 0xc0000374
    Fault offset: 0x000ce753
    Faulting process id: 0x2280
    Faulting application start time: 0x01d055a390c121ab
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online\Live\GameClient.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll

Not just this game it's happening in now. Champions and PWI are also affected. All crashing after a short time of play after their most recent updates.

I've also been having this issue close for 5 months now. No matter what I do it messes up. I've tried all the settings, My laptop and desktop do it. Even with new installs of the game and windows. SO im all out of ideas. Came on here to find some help :x

I'm afraid there's little you can do. Its most likely a memory leak caused by a mistake/omission in the coding and only the dev's can offer help here.

However I've not seen ONE acknowledgement of this on the forums. I haven't looked at their other social media streams as I STILL maintain that this is the official forum.

I think you'll find multiple threads where people have tried everything from game re-installs to PC wipe and reloads. All to no avail.:(

I've been getting this alot too. You would think that they would concentrate on fixing a problem such as this instead of the things they generally work on fixing. Like the coloring of some characters optional armour or things along those lines. I guess they figure if they fix the easy things something of this magnitude will suddenly disappear or they will somehow fix it accidently...
