NEW Map System: First Look!!

The new map system has arrived over on Tribble and has some nice features to it but still needs a few more things to polish up. Check out this video to see how it looks.

Join me as we look at this system and poke a bit of fun at it as well.

    My first thought while watching the vid : see the skillbar were empty (save for the captain skills/items), and open the BOFF station panel to bring back the BOFF. But then I remembered it was a video, and not the game. I'm just so used to that everytime I log a character.

    It is a nice QOL update, just like the BOFF revamp, but when I see all that's wrong (either IMO, or bugs), I think they should work harder on that. I mean, the first thing I saw in your video, was the loadout bug which is terribly annoying.
    I don't really need a nice new paint on my car when I crashed into a tree. The paint is neat, and before the accident, I would have been really happy. But right now, I have bigger concerns.

    I understand many devs involved with this update can't fix the bugs and whatnot. I don't expect Taco to fix the lodaout bug. But I would love to see him work on a Romulan academy for example. Something missing in the game since the Romulan were added.

    Also, I'm really scared to see all the bugs it will bring to the game.

    Yeah, I didn't even pay attention to my broken action bars, it has become 2nd nature to just reset them or ignore them if you know your not going to need them. Oh complacency, on our parts and especially on Cryptic's.

    I might get in trouble here but I'm going to quote Star Wars, "Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?"

    It's a good question though, Cryptic being the fool and us the followers. I hope one day they get it together but that might just be a pipe dream.

    Make sure you watch the whole video though, for the musical number near the end.

    if they're gonna do this, then shouldn't the star chart be in the same arrangement as it is now? I'm not referring to the sector blocks, but the boundarys of the galaxy map

    Sadly, this will kill the Tour the Galaxy mission. LOL Or they will have to shorten it's timer by a big chunk.

    Nah, they already addressed that in the dev blog.
    Tour the Galaxy


    Tour of the Galaxy required a change with this complete overhaul of Sector Space. Now, instead of flying into a sector, you will have to fly to a specific planet to complete each exploration task.

    We’re aware that this will take longer to do, so to compensate, we’ve increased the time limit in Tour of the Galaxy. Additionally, in the previous version of the mission you only gained a reward for every three sectors you explored. Now, you will be rewarded every time you fly to a planet, with a bonus reward for completing planets in a row or column of sector space. Because of this change, Tour of the Galaxy will give out more rewards.

    A Romulan Academy only makes sense if playable Romulans were in a full independent faction like the KDF or UFP. But they are not. To play a romulan is to play UFP or KDF by another means. What you learn in the KDF or UFP academy is taught in the introductory Romulan Republic story. THAT's your Romulan Academy, right there.
    Officially, they are a faction. They deserve a bit more than being a different flavor for fed/KDF. And a platform for OP traits and ships.

    My biggest concern about this new map system right now is how their servers will handle this new change. As we have all seen in the past they don't load test their new stuff very well.

    This is a significant change to the environment, unless they are upgrading their servers as well I have a feeling this might not go over very well on launch.

    Even right now I'm still rubber-banding all over the place, not just ESD.
