First I must state that this is a discussion about the current state of quality in Star Trek Online and NOT so much as a technical issue report. I am seeking people's thoughts on the matter.
So once again, Cryptic has managed to reintroduce random client crashes with the latest update for some folks, including myself. I've gone through the usual checklist of addressing game crashes on my end, but to no avail. Considering STO is the only game that is frequently having these problems and that they occur after certain updates, I am forced to conclude this is strictly an issue with the game client.
So far there has been zero acknowledgement from the developers since these problems became more commonplace for some people starting around the Winter Event. They seemed to have intensified with the anniversary update. It could be a memory leak associated with Cryptic's attempts to address the UI issues that have plagued the game for a long time. But I am uncertain. There is no way to reproduce this issue because it is completely random.
I've already left a post in the pc issues section and filed a support ticket (completely useless by the way since they just directed me to the usual procedures of addressing crashes THAT I TOLD THEM I ALREADY WENT THROUGH), but it would really help if I knew that Cryptic is at least investigating these problems.
I will also reiterate that this is the primary reason why my interest in STO is dwindling. Not because of the game's content or balance issues. But because it struggles to function at a
basic level. Updates are constantly breaking the game in different areas, and absolutely nothing has been done to at least try and address STO's problems at its core. The game is messy and inconsistent, and constantly fluctuates between different users. More so than other games. One update introduces problems for one set of users, the next introduces problems for another set of users. And others are lucky enough to have zero issues at all. And some have it the worst, since they
can't get the game to work at all. STO probably isn't the worst game I've played when it comes to stability, but it is up there with the rest of them.
I'm not sure what I should do at this point. Is it still worth sticking around for? How long will these issues keep plaguing the game? If they bother you, how long can you put up with this level of quality?
