STO Fleet Pourpus and Exploration

STO could be freaking epic if it had exploration.

but every Exploration system needs incentives.

have 5 sets of planetary explorations
  1. Colonization
  2. trade agreements (get kickbacks for this)
  3. diplomatic assistance
  4. cultural exchange
  5. starbase construction (for fleets trying to gain territory, possible fleet competition)

as for systems, you need to include a healthy mixture of the following

25% Dilithium Mining, randomized asteroids with varying yields, gain anything from a 85% chance of 100 dil, to 10% 500 dil, to a 5% 1000 dil, 4% 1.5k dil, 1% 5000 dil.

50% research and development resource gathering

10% combat

15% Planetary encounters.

I believe the Trade Agreement's should be rewarding, with a 10% chance of getting a kickback of 1k EC in each trade agreement.

Starbase construction would be for a new Fleet Mechanic. only availible in systems with dilithium, a trade enabled planet, and enemies. it allows fleets to manage networks of starbases MAX 10, where they invest in large scale trading, if the starbase is constructed they'd have to be defended by platforms, hangars and ships, the ships would be built by the fleet with a T5 shipyard, once these stations reach the first tier they give discounts for projects including their own, for each station a new discount is added. when a Starbase reaches T5 it offers a substantial discount for the next station and so on and so on. once 10 T5 stations are made and trade has reached T5 out of 10, all members assigned to the stations will receive a stipend of EC determined by how many trade agreements were made for a fleet by those who negotiated for it, in other words, those who negotiated for it will recieve a kickback from a pool in the fleet instead of directly from the trade. this is potentially far more profitable than solo trade negotiation.

These starbases would be protected by hand picked and named ships by the fleet leaders they can also be donated via boxes, either lock box ships or dilithium ships, these ships can do a number of tasks, from escorts to raids (possible mechanic if based in the gamma quadrant and war with the dominion is waging) to resource exploration, these resource explorations are the key to the resource discounts for projects, same for the income, the income of a fleet is determined by how many trade partners are negotiated for the fleet, a potential trade agreement has a 2% chance from fleet ship explorations and is assigned by a randomized algorithm dependent on who is actively playing.

fleets can build micro stations to act as defensive posts for merc/borg/dominion (if war with dominion), they require constant maintainence and supplies, same goes for the amount of built ships, for each ship/ship type the project for resupply increases its requirements as well and same goes for the defensive stations.

These Stations and ships can be utilized as cartographers for the local area, which can give the fleet the option to hire ferengi entrepreneurs for discovered dilithium fields where they get a percentage of the dilithium for their trouble and a discount is applied to the fleet projects.

Fleets can also opt in for Wargames should PvP ever be overhauled.

Diplomaic encounters can rely on very rare beverages, or foods, even some comodities. or it may include weapon trades (kdf).

It'd be nice to see some astrological phenomena like black holes, rifts in time, wormholes etc.

it'd also be cool to have the Fleet we wanted for our Fleet Admirals, using old or garaged ships to tag along with us like Boffs on the ground, heck maybe even some encounters or unexplored systems could use them for battlegroups against large numbers.

maybe even include the maquis as well.

I can also see this kind of mechanic being moved to mobile too, with fleet members in charge of fleet ships they either donated or majority of investment, stocking them with Doffs, and doing Doff assignments.

it'd be cool to have that starbase hologram like in front of quin's office for fleet headquarters.

This could be very profitable for Cryptic.

I'd like to hear some feedback on this.

I'm going to be honest I didn't read your post, I just came here looking for the dolphin bartender, I assumed that's what a pourpus was.

Meh this guy needs Star Citizen, STO won't have anything like that.
    Chris Robert's on SC:
"You don't have to do something again and again and again repetitive that doesn't have much challange, that's just a general good gameplay thing."

yes yes I" know I mispelled the title.

but I and I know many other people would keep playing STO if there were more to do than just grind for what we have now. this is at least time engaging and has incentives.

Star Citizen will be in Pre-Alpha when my grandkids have grandkids.

I bet Chris Roberts sits on his sofa at home, beer in hand, watching the cash roll in while laughing like a madman.

strangely enough, so would I, I even think PWE would greenlight it as a cheap joke if they ever disrespect the material enough.

but I really want to see some feedback on this idea, I know STO may not have this kind of mechanic in its totality, but at least have some of them for the exploration aspect.

Oh, sure. He needs to buy the game, he needs to buy a high end computer that can actually run the damn thing, he needs a starter pack, and he needs to pray to god that it doesn't flop in less than a year. And I'm pretty sure promoting other games on the STO forums is a violation of the ToS.

already got all of that, well not the finished product but I've got Arena Commander and several ships ready to go once the PU is launched.

Not taking into account anyone's opinion on cryptic, I see one or 2 real problems with your use as described.

First, database size. With all those bases available to all the fleets they are going to have problems storing that information in what they have now. So they would need to upgrade, which costs money, which they would have to get from us or stop spending elsewhere, like content.

Second. The fleet system is already resource intensive and time consuming, requiring large groups of people to use and maintain it effectively. Making it larger will widen the gap between small groups and large ones considerably.

well I was kinda hoping this system would allow for discounts and project cutdowns, and they could always balance out the gap by utilizing a token or adoption from larger fleets, giving them discounts for helping smaller fleets.

Even with discounts they would have to be significantly cheaper. The fleet system is balanced around large numbers of active players so the costs start quite high.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see it. I'm saying there isn't enough meta game for it to be useful on its own
