Proposed Changes to Incursion

jjdezjjdez Member Posts: 570 Arc User
Starbase Incursion for some reason or another, is often disliked by players. Aside from the fact it is groud, which turns off a percentage of the player base immediately, I'm not entirely sure why. Regardless, I want to propose the following changes to perhaps entice more people to play it and provide some general QoL improvements.

1.) Change phase 1 (hunting down single saboteurs) from a timed phase to a fixed number of saboteurs stopped. A similar change was made to Defend Rhi'ho Station involving the elachi devices, and I think everyone received that change positively, so why not do it here as well?

2.) In private matches, allow the enemy faction to be selected. This should be applied to Fleet Alert as well. Leave the PUG queue alone and let the enemy faction be chosen at random in regards to the starbase tier, but allow those who want to make a private match with friends/channel mates etc to select who they want to fight. It could even incorporate the match leaders starbase for unlocking what you can and cannot select. I'm not proposing this as one type of enemy is easier, as on normal difficulty they are all incredibly easy, but more for those who do actually want to see the more rare enemies such as undine or borg.

Thoughts or concerns? Has this already been mentioned and shot down by the devs?

i dont mind idea 1, and idea 2 would make accolade hunting easier.
i think the big problem with incursion is the fact that not many people know how to do it. fed-side particularly, i find at least 2 people start dropping turrets in the spawn trying to 'guard' it and end up with an agroed mob inside the spawn. the other people seem to get the idea of doing 'zone coverage' in phase one (possible due to the warmup chatter 'right top' and such), but dont seem to catch on that they need to hit 4 bosses in phase 2.
i honestly think it might be a lost cause pug-wise due to the overwhelming stupidity of the average player.

Accolade hunting is a large part of my desire for the idea 2 change. I've only needed one Undine boss for well over a year now to wrap up all the incursion accolades...never see him.

I agree with what you've said here, and I've spent quite a bit of time in the past trying to impart the knowledge of this missions mechanics on others. But like in any online game the most common response is "F**K OFF MAN, I PLAY HOW I WANT". Perhaps another idea would be to put in a level-minimum like 50.

Heh, yeah. Which is sad for those of us who don't necessarily have large friend lists with people interested in such missions.

There are always fleets and the dps-chans.

Use the Accolades channel, that's how I got it. You get a group, they'll beam in and out with you until you get the enemy faction you're looking for and they don't mess up the boss kill like in the pug groups.

The space fleet alert is easier since people don't need too much skill for that one.

That's definitely an option. Really pushing for the QoL improvement here so people don't have to beam in/beam out until the RNG gods smile down upon you. I've at least been lucky enough to have a fleet mate who I can run these with and essentially two-man the mission given most pugs...

Actually id like to have more time on last phase, when you need to lower the shield around the boss. Even in VERY FAST runs, sometimes the timer over the boss is already started by a lot when you deactivate the shield and try to kill him. This doesnt happen every time, but it's annoying when he escapes at middle hp, especially when you do a perfect run ;)

People dont play SBI because there is little reward for it, and if gaming has suggested anything at all it is that despite the fact that gaming is for fun: progression/resource aquisition > fun. (See: Argala)

There are a lot of ques that I would love to play, but no one playes them because they are all playing Crystalline Catastrophy or Infected Space. Im not sure if all the ques were deleted except these two anyone would even notice or care.

What I would do to encourage people to play these ques is apply a daily to each of them that had a reward, however, it is in the best interest of STO to not have players spread out across different ques because that would require more server space, so I dont think they are going to be receptive to the idea of populating these ignored ques.
