What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

STO is it's own network drive?

So after the last patch I noticed that STO has gone and made itself the Z drive on my pc. I'm curious as to why it did this, because every time I go to start it up now I get the annoying UAC popup.

I am still using the original launcher from before PW took over and have been for some time, but up until the last patch it wasn't listed as a network drive and sure wasn't labeled as anything. such as;

Star Trek Online (\\Insert Computer Name\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios) ( Z: )

System specs are as follows;

AMD FX-6100 Six core processor @ 3.30GHz, 8GB RAM (7.98GB usable), 2TB HDD, GeForce GTX750, Win7 Pro x64, Single user.

It's not causing any noticable problems, and I'll install through Steam before I install through ARC, if need be, as I don't need yet another program on my pc when I already play Neverwinter through Steam. I'm really just curious is all and sorry if it's posted in the wrong spot, but it struck me as odd that it is now a network drive. :D

    Weird, have you tried unmapping it as a drive?

    Funny thing about the STO program. If you install it through Steam or Arc, both of them will end up creating registry entries forcing you to only be able to play it from certain folders. Now, take the STO folder from one machine (I did it with the Steam version) and drop it in lets say C:\Program Files (x86)\Star Trek Online on another machine, make a link to the launcher, and run it, and it will not complain about where you're running it from.

    I know whomever is in charge of creating that executable over at Cryptic and knows what registry entries have to be changed in order to run it without Steam/Arc after installing it from them doesn't want to tell us the secret to running it without them, but it is possible.

    I'm lucky, then. Been running STO from desktop (no Arc or Steam) since joining in Sept. 2012. Hope to continue doing it this way for the foreseeable future.

    I've tried to unmap it and change it's location but when I do it wants to start from scratch and redownload everything ( I've let it before and it just created it as the Z: drive again) lol

    It hasn't caused any problems other than the annoying UAC popup, but who's to say it won't later on in the future. Also tried a clean install from my original download (yes I still have it) and it works until the patching finishes.

    I just find it very odd how it would change its directory like that, especially when it's a single user PC with guest account disabled.
