to make it short, because there'll be enough text following. There is a certain difference between new content and new ideas to fight this wast lack of something star trek-like to do in this game since the nebulars have been patched out

The desperate letter of an old fan:
Appart from making some new episodes and the every day pve-maps (currently not playable due to lags or/and other well known issues...), there is little fascinating to do in the game, no matter what fraction one's playing. I think many here know what I mean, aspecially the core-trekkies among us (like me), who stick to that game in lack of any alternative (to be honest), but I keep on putting a small share into the game just to keep the 'good old Trek' alive, its a matter of heart!! To see what is done with it breaks my heart!
All that seems to matter in this game now is DPS DPS DPS DPS DPS DPS :mad:
The game mechanics feel like making a joke out of the 'realism' Star Trek tried to build up. As a canon player I cant even play pve (not to mention pvp), because I have to skip the real logic behind starship equipment! For example: being forced to put only beams on ships, that obvioulsly haven't the structural layout to carrie even one, or skipping the classic tactical combo between energy and projectile weapons just not to be ignored due to the 'not enough DPS-Cr...thing'!
That has nothing to do with Star Trek or any reasonable space combat principles in any Sci-Fi Universe!! Besides, Star Trek was surely influenced by real fleet managment and tactics (US-Navy: Ranks, ship routine and organisation, the hole Institution of Star Fleet, etc...).
So, after having played all episodes several times (not to mention the foundry issue), what is left for a player like me to do here??

If someone is willing to listen/read and think of it, I would like to hand in a detailed proposal for a hole season, that is based on more generic single-player missions (including the story background for it; Co-op not excluded) and other small but fancy features, that would enrich this game for years and even make the kdf fraction exciting again! Basically to make interesting whats allready there!
That is my offer and last hope for the game and I would be gratefull to recieve reasonable feedback and the chance to bring in my ideas.

this wont change because you ask for it, its what cryptic wants or we can leave it and find something else to play.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Let's be honest here as long as they continue their powercreep and latest shiny must haz TRIBBLE the game will continue cause way too many people practically throw their money at them because of fancy new stuff that's advertised as an insta-win button.
As long as the majority of the players don't change and finally stop shoving $$$ down cryptics throat they will continue this path.
So far the last 4 month can be summed up with nerfs, bugs, ships and more nerfs cause that's pretty much all that happened since the "best expansion ever".
However, no developer will ever be able to pump out new story content as fast as players consume it, due to the immense difference between development time (weeks/months) and play time (15-45 minutes). It's unavvoidable.
Therefore, if you're looking for longterm stuff, i suggest you set your own goals. I usually fixate on some new ship, trait or item that takes a long time to aquire if i don't invest with real money.
Upgrading all your characters' gear to mk XIV without Zen->Dil investments can take a while, for example.

You know, I've heard this lame dev excuse for a long time, and while its true you can't create episodes in STO nearly fast enough for consumption, it doesn't stop the devs from making good repeatable content. This is something they've failed to do for year after year after year, people still play the old STFs because the new content sucks pretty bad.
So no, you can't create story missions fast enough, but you can create quality, challenging, balanced and dynamic repeatable content that keeps player's interested for a good amount of time. Right now, whatever garbage they throw out is mastered in the first play through its so simplicistic, which is disgusting.

The devs have given the players sufficiently large guns to turn every problem into one easily and reliably solvable by DPS so the players do so.
On to the what to do part, I'd just kit out your ships as you like, turn off the chat window and or block tells, and do what you like and feel comfortable with. In the spirit of fair play I would not venture into elite, or possibly advanced, if the build isn't capable of pulling its weight (as considered by a normal person) to not harm other players.
I love my Risian Corvette full engine power plasma torpedo boat. Is it spamming maxed partgen gravity wells and TS3 nuetronics? Nope. Is there much of a point to the maxed engine power? Nope. Do I like flying that ship? Yup.
