Romulan Advice

Hi,

After playing this constantly since launch and having started to Romulan toons previously but stopped playing with them shortly after... I now want to roll one all the way to max level and beyond.

So I am just asking for general advice on Romulan Tactical playstyles, given they have battle cloak n' all that...

- What consoles should I go after, BOff and traits etc.

Cheers for any help you Rommie guys n' gals can give.:)

Play them like an escort or raptor and you'll learn the rest on the way.

As for boffs and traits: pruple romulans with "Superior Romulan Operative" all the way should be your endgame goal. Don't bother looking on the exchange cause that's going to be steep. If you're lucky you get some through the level up rewards but most will be through doffing the recruitment missions till your eyes bleed. Ok, it's not that bad but it will take a while.

Most of the other stuff strongly depends on the warbird itslf.

That's basically it but most birds need completely different setups to work optimally. Dont spend too much till you've found your endgame ship. Spending loads of ec or dil to fit out low tier ships is a complete waste.

Level 15, 25, 35 and so on i think you get a free BOff out of a choice of 3. Select the SRO one.
For fittings: just pretty standard. dmg type consoles in tactical, flow caps in science if you have Plasmonic Leech, armor and eps or rcs in engineering...
I'd prefer (dual) beams early on, because the beam skills are one tier lower than cannon and BOff slots are the limit here.
You could craft MK II with another toon, apply a superior/omega kit and let your twink do the actual upgrades to the level he/she could currently use. Consoles go up to MK IX, weapons and eng, def, shield only MK VII with a single kit but thats far on the way already.

Satra and Tovan have quite nice ground traits. Both have operative (not superior) too, wich helps on the way already.

heh SRO is so over-rated, but I do love selling them for 3.5mil - 6mil so please keep this myth going

get your basics before thinking about big ticket items.

as you level up, they offer a choice of officers. Always look at all 3 for the superior operative racial trait ... and take the ones that have it. Knowing this at a lower level is the most important thing about romulans.

Second most important thing is ship power. Rom don't have enough of it, and your captain skill tree needs to be loaded with power boosting perks.

Youll want max flow caps to make use of your leech console. You can get that pretty early, its a tier 2 or 3 ship (?). Be sure to join KDF if you want the leech off a 1k zen ship. The valdore console is a really potent one, it is also a 1000 zen ship. Valdore does more the more dps you do, so its extra effective at higher levels or with OP builds (crafted purple rank 2 captains... lol..).

Traits? Slot your racial romulan operative. The rest, for levling up.. slot a mix of 50% ground 50% space to do the mission arcs. After you hit 50 ask again for a "build" but for now just mix the two as all missions are ground/space combos.

cloak --- it gives a temporary damage bonus. Get close, uncloak, and shoot. Cloaking mid combat is risky ... if there is a torp coming your way, it will catch you with no shields, as will any fire that didnt hit before you vanished but was slated to hit you. I don't use it much, honestly. Reman give a bonus to cloak (some of them!) but its not worth it, romulan operative is more powerful by far.

Use your singularity for quantum absorb defense bonus. That alone will keep you going thru most solo/level up content.

other than this, just play for now. Set up your officers... defaults are usually poor... but you know this already right? Plan to buy a faeht or scimitar. The scim is hard to steer and challenging to set up. The faeht is easy to steer and set up, but not quite as aoetastic, its better as a one by one drive by killer (but its extremely good at it).

How exactly is it a "myth"?

It's not like there are any competitive alternatives. The Hierarchy BOff with Efficient/Pirate might be a contender, but is still weaker than the bonuses SRO gives, especially in a cloaking Rom ship.

hungry under-bridge dweller got ya to feed it...
Stacking crit and critd is potent. And 3 M each is greatly reduced; they were 10+ just over a year, year and a half ago... I bought 2 box ships off just a few of them back when :) I think I sold one or two for 20M+ but that didn't last.

Don't forget a Reman with Infiltrator or Superior Infiltrator in there to extend the duration of the decloak damage bonus. Or get really unpleasant, use a Reman captain with standard Infiltrator and a boff with Superior, extend that bonus out past 22 seconds.

Delta Pack. Reman captain, 5x SRO with SS and SI throw in for added bonus. Sadly, all that stacks from multiple SI or multiple SS is the defense, but I'll still take it!
    SCM - Crystal C. (S) - [00:12] DMG(DPS) - @jarvisandalfred: 8.63M(713.16K) - Fed Sci

    SCM - Hive (S) - [02:31] DMG(DPS) - @jarvisandalfred: 30.62M(204.66K) - Fed Sci

    Tacs are overrated.

Oh they're very nice no doubt, provided one already has the DR pack anyways, but I'd be a bad person if I recommended spending over $100 just for a pair of boffs when you could buy two entire new video games for that price. For people who have more sense than that, one SI plus 4 SROs is still pretty powerful without crossing that line from pricey to ridiculous.

because people swear you "NEED" this, you dont, you can easily do all the episodes and basic/advanced PvE queues w/o ever having an SRO boff

You don't "need" anything. All content in the game (at least up to Advance, not sure about Elite) can be completed without any fancy traits or consoles, just mission-reward Mk XI purples.

You also don't "need" steak or fois gras. You can get by on nutrient sludge. That doesn't mean you don't have better dinners if you have steak and fois gras.
