External Chat Clients?

Does anyone use any external chat clients within STO? One that is compatible with multiple clients? I have tried every one I can find and nothing seems to work in STO. I've tried Raptr, Overwolf, and even just X-Fire on it's on and none of these work.

X-Fire: Will not work at all. I can't get even popups of people's messages. Can't access overlay.

Raptr: The overlay works okay in the game (Ctrl+Tab). I get popups of incoming messages, but when I use the overlay to send a message, every key I type that is assigned as a hotket in STO is activated and that's about 90% of the alphabet. STO ignores modifier keys as well, such as Alt, Ctrl and Shift. Even if there is no defined hotkey using these, STO will use just the key. For instance, if you have a hotkey assigned to "A" but not to "Ctrl+A", STO will still see the "A" and activate that function.

Overwolf: The overlay works in the game but prevents me from doing anything else. I can't play the game, can't move, nothing.

Tabbing out from the game is what I've been having to do, prompting me to try and find a usable chat client. But tabbing out is awful because STO always, 100% of the time, goes back into Windowed mode when you tab out. That's a pain because I have to change it back to full screen because it looks bad. Text has broken lines and my framerate is cut in half from full screen mode. I'm not sure if this has something to do with my monitor's native resolution of 2560x1440 and STO not supporting it fully or what.

Anyone, this is annoying and I'm asking the community if there is one you know that works or perhaps you actually use one I mentioned and can tell me how you made it work. I think I tried Trillian once and it may have worked, however they support 16 different chat clients, none of which are Steam or X-Fire, the two most popular for gamers.

Have you tried Pidgin? (for subs or lifers)

EDIT: This lets you directly connect to Cryptic's chat system that's shared across all their games.

I'm not sure but I don't think this supports Steam or X-Fire.

To be honsest, I'm not sure it's possible to integrate Steam chat directly into another client. Steam doesn't seem to allow it. Even Raptr simply opens the Steam client when you try to message someone.

I wish I could convince people to use an easier social client but good luck with that. And my problem is, the few people I wish to contact are all on various clients.

I run STO in Windowed Fullscreen. No issues alt-tabing to use background applications.

I don't want to Alt+Tab. I want to use it in the game and fullscreen is better and has higher frame rates.

I run STO through Steam. With the Steam Overlay I can chat with my friends outside of Steam easily. And I believe you can link a non steam copy of STO to Steam for access to the Steam Overlay, which is accessable via Shift+Tab in game. However it does kinda mess with a couple controls so after you return to the game hit shift and tab seperately to reset. Just a minor setback that takes a second or 2 to fix.
