I need Motivation...

strorusstrorus Member Posts: 328 Arc User
Hi,

I have played this game constantly since launch, but of late my attention and motivation has begun to waiver...

My main was a Science Fed and have a maxed out Fed Engineer and Tactical. When my attention starts to wane as it currently is I usually flip to another toon and constantly play that toon again until bordem starts to kick in, so I usually have 2-3 month stints on each Toon.

But lately these Stints are getting shorter and shorter until today I have only been playing back on Tactical Toon for only 3 weeks and I am bored already; I was excited for the Command Cruisers and whilst powerful I dislike the look of the Fed ones.

So, my thoughts as they usually do when I am bored turns to starting a new toon... I have tried to start a Romulan Toon twice since LoR but keep going back to my Fed toons shortly after. My issue is knowing how much work I have put into my Fed Toons, so the enormity of having to do that again on a new Toon is scary.

The second issue; I suffer from the in game "Hero Complex", I want to be part of the good guys and most powerful side (the Feds), so my RP-ness struggles to gel with the Romulans.

Also, lately the Fed ships have been 'Meh' whereas the Romulan ships are beautiful...

As you can probably guess from my ramblings that I am bored and at a loss of what to do to re-ignite my passion for this game.:confused::confused:

Cheers

Well...technically the Romulan Republic are good guys, and moreso if you allied yourself with the Federation. It's also common knowledge of how powerful they are, only need to see the Scimitars everywhere for proof.

That aside, looks to me like you've burned out so I would prescribe a long break and other games.

Just as I finished typing and thinking over it, that is what I thought... I need a break!

I am addicted to the daily grind... Log in, set the DOffs off, the RnD dailies and do some PvE, then at the weekend much of of this.

But I think I will try for an extended few weeks "shore leave", Then when I get back try a Romulan.

    Cheers

You want to play as the good guys? Those brave souls who put their lives on the line in the name of Duty and Honor? Who fight near insurmountable odds against a foe so powerful, so overwhelmingly favored to win that only a fool would dare try to fight them . . . and come out victorious? Who ask for nothing in return than to have a death that really means something Whose courageous deeds will be passed on from generation to generation, becoming the stuff of legends?!

You're playing the wrong side. Give the KDF a spin.

    Heh ... , true enough .
As a Starfleet Captain , according to this game you become a mass killer long before you reach Level 60 ... (yet ppl compained about Divide at Impera ...) .
Not something your average Starfleet Captain from the shows ever did .

You might also consider that the investment that you did to your other characters can pay off when creating a new character .
Need EC ? Gather it with your existing characters and transfer it to your new toon via the shared bank .
    Need gear ?
Start saving good drops on your existing toons or use the EC they have to buy your new toon better gear then what drops .
This way existing toons can help new ones .

But taking a break also sounds OK if that's where you're headed . :)

If you han't played the KDF and Romulan level up story missions they are pretty good. If your fed characters are years old you might also want to try the remastered fed stories.

Leveling up is fun because you can play more like in the TV shows, for example using torps even though that reduces your DPS. DPS is not the be-all and end-all while you level up.

Otherwise, if you're burnt out then taking a break makes perfect sense. I know it'as hard to ignore all those unused doff mission slots, but be strong! :)

Because in "Divide et Impera", you weren't required to just be a remorseless serial killer - you were required to be a stupid remorseless serial killer.

Yeah, strorus, sounds like you might want to take a break for a while, until the urge to pilot starships becomes strong again. It happens to the best of us. See you around the galaxy!

When you compare the early Federation and KDF story line, the KDF missions are simply amazing. The Federation story doesn't even come close to making you feel like a hero when you compare it to the KDF.

You want to be a hero? Play KDF.

And once you are a General and finish your Omega rep? You can get your cool cape. :D

Federation is just a snoozefest. It's why I deplore playing the new missions that are basically Fed with just a few word changes in DR.

If you don't like a red ui, you can always change it to something else in your options menu.

Yes this. I did that mission only once. I skippped it on my other characters when given the chance. Your character just airlocks reason, common sense, and basic intelligence in that mission.

Last time I checked those kit modules were below 2m EC on the Exchange ;) I'd say they are totally worth it, so go for it.

No but seriously. If you feel you need motivation to play a game... then you may want to take a break. The best motivation to play a game, I think, would be to have fun. If you don't have fun, then don't play.

I've had the same issue. I'm working on my third account at the moment. The first one I shut down because I felt it was too much work to keep developing all characters (most of which I just created to try out new careers, new species, new specialisations like a specialised ground character) as new features were released. The second one is collecting dust at the moment because of the same reason.

After having created so many characters, I've decided that I mostly like to play as a Science character, with most skill points allocated to the ground skills. So I basically picked the best option and decided to focus all my efforts on that character. I don't think there's a need to fully develop all characters just because you'd like to play as a tac for a change, but that's just my opinion after almost three years playing and developing accounts/characters.

After a while, it may become a very heavy burden to try and fully develop literally every alt you have. If you think you're missing the motivation to do that, then my advice would be: don't.
