Price like 31K dil to make a specialization token is beyond stupid (and greedy). Other than that, it's fine.
where are you getting 31k dilithium to make a specialization token? it cose 200 dilithium to make the padd, thats all the dilithium you need. To make it token you need to buy rank 1 of certain spec abilities which ALL cost ec from vendor and combine them with the padd. Not only can ANY officer become specialized they gain all of those abilities you just bought to make the token in the first place.
I think this system is great, i can use the same boffs across multiple ships and just change the abilities without going to a retrainer if a power doesn't work. I think this system is awesome.
In terms of utility and quality of life, this is a major improvement even with the costs in it, which don't seem at all egregious to me or out of line.
My only concerns with it are:
- There still needs to be a useful 'out point' for BOFF candidates that are not usable. This problem of infinite boffs with no value/utility/function is only going to be worse now as Boffs are _purely_ valued for traits. Rare skills are not relevant as I understand the new model, which I honestly prefer overall as that model was always silly to me. There needs to be a DOFF mission or Fleet function that consumes BOFFS for a given outcome, such as permanent assignments the way common doffs are used. This however has been an existing problem for some time and is not new to the new system. I'm just surprised it was left addressed as an obvious hole in the model to date.
- Unless something else has changed, there are rare skills that cannot be accessed to retrain at present. That simply has to get sorted asap because the longer it continues, the greater the distraction it will be from the things that are good in this system. It is supremely unfortunate that it was pushed out live without this element solved first as it.
Other than those two elements, new system gets a big thumbs up.
