Fleet Aquarius Build Advice

Dear all,

I am one of those boring 1 toon/1 ship/1 build type of players and I’ve been using my Tactical Odyssey with great satisfaction for some time now.

However, I’ve had the itch for an Aquarius Escort for some time as I can roleplay being “detached” from my Odyssey (geeky, I know!).

With the recent upgrades, I’m thinking of finally pulling the trigger on a Fleet Aquarius. As I have never built an escort before, I have some questions first.

I want to re-use most of my Oddy’s gear to avoid spending too many resources on the Aquarius at first. I plan on merely buying/upgrading 3xDHCs and the bio-turret (since it goes with the rest of counter-command gear I already have).

I had something like this in mind: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=aquarius_7326

Would such a build be reasonably capable? Coming from a 25/30K DPS (but VERY tanky) Oddy, would I enjoy such a ship? Would I be able to get at least 15K DPS out of it and be able to pull my weight in DPS Channel STFs? Would survivability be a major issue?

Thank you in advance for you kind advice!

I haven't looked at the aquarius ingame lately but a cmdr. engi boff in a fixed tac cmdr. slot?
There might be somethign wrong there.....

That aside the gear looks solid but you may squeeze more dps out of it if you ditch the torp and go for a full cannon build. Procs and side effects are all neat and great but most of the time the torp itself will hit nothing but shields.

Also if you're accustomed to bulky cruisers which can take quite a pounding you will have to change your playstyle drastically. Raiders (which the aquarius is now), even the rather bulky ones, can't take much. Hit and run styles are the way to go and pray that you'll never be targeted cause you really can't afford to be hit by something powerful.

Also, do you already have it? Becasue the T5U aquarius comes with quite a pricetag attached to it. 4 Modules + 20k fleet creds for only 1 character and 1 upgrade token to get it to 5U. And your fleet needs a T4 shipyard so you can purchase it at all.

Thank you for you reply :)

Yes, there appears to some problems with the Aquarius skill planner...so the skills/stations are wrong indeed. Will try to figure that out. EDIT: Problem fixed...stations should be fine now

Concerning the resources to buy it, those are not an issue and my fleet maxed-out all holdings. In a day and age where 30mil EC on a desirable beam array can seam like a good deal, 32mil EC for a ship seems like a steal :P
(modules sell for 8mil on the exchange atm)

That being said, I still haven't convinced myself to buy it. I'm afraid that I will have survivability (and maybe DPS?) issues in advanced/elite STFs...and I hate my ship being destroyed. Can barely remember the last time my Oddy suffered that ignoble fate!

I wish one could somehow try ships before buying them (3hrs free trial?)...

Copy toon over to tribble and do it over there perhaps?
    I need a beer.

You can test ships on the Tribble test server. But you would have to buy the Fleet Modules and Ship Upgrade token before transfering your charecter to the Tribble server.

He'd need to be in a fleet too.

Honestly, I'm having a lot of fun with the Fleet T5U Aquarius light escort right now, and I'm actually feeling I fare better in it than the T6 Phantom (as long as surgical strike isn't involved in the equation).

If the Aquarius has any real flaw right now, it's that the animations for the Pilot specialization don't work on it.
