So I have not gotten to play STO a lot lately do to what I can only call the Lag of Death. In fact I just logged on and timed it this time. I got to play STO for 4 minutes and 7 seconds before the lag hit I started to rubber band over and over and over and over and over and over and then booted from the server.
My question to everyone is. Do you all get this kind of lag as of late? I never used to have this issues until cryptic did that stability update or what ever they want to call it. I just want to know if you guys and girls are getting this as well.
I had really serious problems, and it turned out to be a combination of things.
First my system was shuttling between the fixed ground line and the wifi connection. *facepalm* Disconnected the wifi connection, that problem was resolved.
Next it was my modem getting updates without me knowing. Rolled it back, and second set of problems gone.
Third it was background applications hogging the bandwidth and processing power - turned out to be several things doing it, including my son's addiction to music *ahem*. Solved that quickly enough.
I've been relatively lucky this past year since cleaning all of that up. I still get the occasional hang due to server traffic, but nothing that's been game stopping for at least a few months.
Thanks ddesjardins I will give those a try. I have just been looking for days on my end and can't find any thing that says its me. I play a few other online games and I run smooth as silk so no idea. But I will try your sugestions now.
You know, the only thing I can think of is this if everything else is working for you online except for STO.
Is your character running the Starship Mastery Traits from both the Breen Carrier and Fed Dauntless Science Vessel? It's been known that using both lags you out in space combat. Everyone in the instance starts lagging, get the Server Not Responding then Disconnects.
When I play on ground, it worked fine. But in space, once combat starts, it was Slideshow time.
I removed one of those 2 traits (removed the Dauntless one) and the game magically worked.
Someone in one of the channels I follow mentioned that issue and fix.
I only get rubberbanding occasionally but not very often.
I get server not responding on occasion too but not very often.
But this could be from running netflix or hulu on other screen while playing.

No. I have a slight delay when the game creates an instance for me, and that time varies some depending on time of day (more people on, server takes longer to allocate instances). This is at the most about 60 seconds and on the average about 10-15 seconds of delay. The really long ones are rare, far less than 10% of all instances including going to my shuttle bridge (acct bank) and the like. actually the long ones are usually solo instances, not groups.
The exchange lags a lot. Searches etc are sluggish. The exchange system seems to be overwhelmed. But these are small lags of just a few seconds per search, its a minor annoyance.
I have no other "lag" at all, ever. There is a known issue with the breen carrier trait and other heals causing a loopback that kills the game --- and that can be for people near a carrier driver (same STF) as well as the owner. Most everything else is a networking issue on the client side.

Are you in an STF when it happens? There are a certain combination of traits that laglaglaglaglaglaglagcrash the zone server you are in when used in conjunction.
That sounds like what you are experiencing, but it won't happen, say, in ESD or social zones.

My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.
Well if this is the reason that the lag is taking place then it is a Cryptic issues and I will just discontinue using the breen carriers until they are fixed. Thanks for the input everyone. Been way more helpful the Cryptic.

used to be like this the last days exep0t yesterday...
doooomlag on bug hunt
had to close the game
the lags in the last days kept me from everything but doffing and R&D
I even failed the winter race due to rubberbanding
I get server not responding on occasion too but not very often.

Edit:
Yeah, that.
I've been DC'd 3 times today within a couple hours and server not responding on multiple occasions
