ESD problem still affecting many missions...any autofix coming?

gulberatgulberat Member Posts: 5,505 Arc User
Sorry if I am asking a FAQ here, but I have run into numerous Foundry missions, including some I really enjoy, where I think the author is no longer around to make edits and fix their mission if it started on the old ESD. "TECHNOBABBLE" by klintobean is an example, and I have tried to reach the author myself both on and offsite and had no luck.

Will there be any kind of automatic fix to move the mission door to something on the new ESD map so we don't have huge numbers of "lost" missions that can't be played anymore because of the ESD revamp, if the authors are not responding to notifications to edit? It's been a long time now and If think the old ESD doors should just be mapped into new locations at this point so these missions are not all out of commission.

Actually...Tacofangs, the mission I mentioned may start in Club 47. Is there anything anyone can do now that the club is up and running to repair that mission?

AFAIK all mission where the door was inside ESD should still start. The trick is figuring out where. It might be a random plant, or a computer console near the SY, but it's there somewhere.

If the author is no longer playing the game and either can't be contacted or does not want to update the directions to his door, there's really not much that can be done. I don't think we really want to start asking Cryptic to get in and mess with people's missions. Sets a bad precedent.

The solution I had in mind was not Cryptic actually editing a mission, but changing the definition of the existing variable in the player's mission so that it linked to a spot on the new ESD. The change would occur on the back end and at least as I envision it, would not require a dev to manipulate someone's actual mission.

The most common ESD 'doorway' for Foundry missions was the "Panel outside the Transporter Room". That panel is now downstairs under Admiral Quinn's office in the conference room (the left side room if standing at the bottom of Quinn's stairs looking up into his office).

I just did one of Klintobean's missions last night, and he did indeed use this panel for the starting point. Unfortunately, the mission dialog did still say "start at transporter room panel".

To the OP, I don't think there is any 'auto-fix' for this problem. It would mean having to change the text automatically somehow in many, MANY missions. And who's to say that an author didn't use the phrase 'transporter panel' intentionally in his text - but not have it refer to this 'door'?

I think, as was suggested above, the solution is just get to know the new locales of the doorways. Tacofangs went through a lot of effort to make sure they were all still there after the revamp (albeit in much different places).

Is there a official map now of the new door locations and what old locations they corresponded with? Even something like that in this forum's FAQ/sticky section might be helpful if what you're saying is right and all missions ARE still playable. Maybe Tacofangs or another dev or player has such a map handy to post??

yes, he posted it a long time ago. :P

All doors in ESD2 have a location in ESD3. Some are.... unexpected but they're around, somewhere. The only change that needs made at this time is in mission descriptions.

Hi there! I am the original author of the mission(s) you were trying to access.

I apologize for the late reply. I took a break for awhile (in grad school).

I still need to take the time to update the descriptions in my Foundry missions to change the naming of the start console.

But currently I believe you can access it in the conference room beneath Admiral Quinn's office as people have described above.

Thanks for the interest in my missions!

I am hoping to make updates soon as well as an exciting sequel to Technobabble and the adventures of DJ Spoonhead :)
