Over the past week or two, I've had 10 "game client cancelled" errors (which exit only to desktop, not back to STO login screen). Just this evening, got disconnected once. And I've had the modem hung once (which requires shutdown/reboot of both modem and PC). What fun. *sour look*
Maybe the software is trying to hint that since I log-in old-fashioned style via desktop icon, not via Steam or Arc, I'm obviously doing it the wrong way (i.e., not the new way). Tough luck. I'm going to keep doing it from the desktop.
I have crashed to desk top 5 times today??!? never was a problem b4,anyone else?
It has been getting considerablly worse for some. That is to say, for me. ESPECIALLY in Q's winter wonderland and especially when transferring maps. That's why I always save the ground event for last...
Down in the bugs forum there are several threads about this, with no real dev input. I've been crashing anytime i hit combat, and even just randomly for the last week and a half. It's screwed me out of the elachi event and the XP i could have been grinding and if they hadn't dropped the tides of ice limits on the warp core and winter event items (due to a different bug), i would be missing those as well. The game has been unplayable the entire time do to crashing every 4-7 minutes. It's a bit ridiculous, and i'm surprised people are more upset just yet.
mine have been mainly at map transfers, and once during undine battle zone.devs have been silent for a lil while, maybe it was a stealth patch gone awry?

Your lucky min crashes switching toons , warping out someplace , going to winter wonderland , makes my batts disappear every time , 50% of time my gears changed off ship as well as a few of my tray abilities poof gone i save repeatedly , I also know how to use load outs correct all this has happened since my first beam out to wonderland once it started ..... woe is me .... i get logged out 20x a day (((
Mine tends to crash in PvE queues since the last patch...first time I enter a queue, as soon as combat begins, hello desktop. Then I restart the game and it puts me back in the fight and everything works just fine again.
Well for a while no (possibly since the return of the Winter Event) I too have had a number of crashes as well as Server Timeouts .
I also noted that a visual bug that was squashed a while back has made an inglorious return -- the one where everything is suddenly bright or silvery -- altho usually it fixes itself after a little while .
I had a few crashes the last week, but now I don't any more. My crashes however seemed mostly likely related to my graphics card, I got windows error log messages of kernel mode driver failures. And today I installed a new card.
Of course, it could be I was just more lucky the last 3 days than the days before that.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
1. run chkdsk on the hard drive STO is located on (yes it takes ages but it's most likely worth it)
2.) run STO file verification (I've got the launcher still, not sure about how/ or if it works with ARC or steam)
3.) if you're lucky, chkdsk will find some (or more) bad data/ files ect and correct/ delete them, and STO will re- download the missing content via STO file verification (or something along the line)
Well it's been a couple days since I posted this. Still having crash to desk top but only in sto so I would think it's only sto related but not going to reinstall and all that stuff. However most crashes are during map changes and sometimes during an astf (and got spanked for it too. Got the lever penalty. Oh well.

A couple years ago I had a serious problem with STO crashing to the desktop every few minutes with strange error messages. It turned out to be a bad RAM stick, have you tested your RAM?
Yes, fair enuf, but the thing is the ntdll.dll crash that occurs happens ONLY in STO, ONLY started after last patch, and on top of that several ppl encounter it, so its unlikely that all these ppl have their PC suddenly broken, and just right after the last patch...
While I dont agree with the tone of the poster you quoted, I have to agree that I think this problem is on Cryptic's end. Something broke after last patch. And for the record, I have other games installed and I dont get crashes in them at all.

Correlation does not equal causation. Just because two events happen in succession does not mean they're actually related. I'm enjoying DR, I haven't had any crashes to desktop, and the only connection problems I have experienced were quickly followed by a server crash which was brought back up fairly quick again.
I used to have serious connection issues when I first start playing the game, and all my tracert results showed the where the problem was happening and using the built in proxy option solved that. I used to have serious CTD issues, until a memtest led me to discovering a bad RAM chip. Aside from those issues, both of which were not on Cryptic's end, the game has largely been error free. The only time I've ever experienced problems with the game on Cryptic's end is when Neverwinter launched, and everyone experienced those problems, there were no players able to say, "But it's working fine for me."
Understood. As like some have mentioned STO is the only game to do this. I play Total Wars games a lot with everything to turned to max and never have had an issue as much as STO lately. Been playing STO since day one and until the Delta Rising came out, it has been hit and miss with these crash to Desktops. It seems like I'm not the only one having problems. I;ve seen in other simialar threads people saying the exact same problem. So, I do not believe it to be my PC or RAM as you say. Total War, SIMS 4 and a few other games I play and NO PROBLEMS.
So you'll accept anecdotal evidence that other people have the same problem, but you won't accept anecdotal evidence that other people are not having the same problem?
I can't force you to run a RAM test, but I will go ahead and stop replying to you since you're unwilling to take some simple troubleshooting steps to solve your problem. Good luck with that.
Ran chkdsk this morning and re-verified files. Map transfer crashes still happening. I'm going to say that Cryptic effed something up and, as usual, are not aware of it.
Christmas is around the corner, so I don't expect this to get resolved until January. :P

However if you have a habit of alt-Tabbing in and out a lot, I suggest going to the Change Character screen first.

Ugh, think I'll take a break myself. This is not worth it.

Awoken Dead
Now shaddup about the queues, it's a BUG
Well, at least with a LTS if/when you DO decide to come back you'll have a buttload of zen...
In short:
1. run chkdsk on the hard drive STO is located on (yes it takes ages but it's most likely worth it)
2.) run STO file verification (I've got the launcher still, not sure about how/ or if it works with ARC or steam)
3.) if you're lucky, chkdsk will find some (or more) bad data/ files ect and correct/ delete them, and STO will re- download the missing content via STO file verification (or something along the line)
4.) play/ grind & have fun
I am having crashes too, since last patch, when I change maps or characters. Found out its a ntdll.dll crash.
Yours may be from different cause, check this thread also: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=21293921&posted=1#post21293921, especially crypticfrost's post. It may help find out your problem.

ntdll.dll errors are quite common, and while they could show a problem on the programs end, more than likely it is a problem on your end.

Post #19 of that thread (from 2011) has a possible solution for corrupt dll's.
