Bug Hunt: (Bonus) Mission Impossible

cecil08cecil08 Member Posts: 163 Arc User
I'm just wondering if anyone has ever accomplished the "Bonus" of setting all 4 charges before the Spawnmother dies AND before the bugs evacuate.

So far, this seems to be impossible as Lt Vanderveer takes hours to set even a single charge. Not only that but he's apparently made of glass because one of those bugs up top dousing him with acid ONCE sends him calling for a medic.

Anyway is this maybe bugged and/or too hard or is there some strategy I'm not aware of? I actually really like Bug Hunt and enjoy playing it but I would like to get the Bonus at some point too :)

Best advice is to start a game and tell the people who join up front that this is what you want to do. You will never accomplish it in a pug. But I bet if you advertise the accomplishment in the chat you will find 4 people to go for it.

edit - by chat I mean the elitestf chat channel.

I was in a pre-made team and we tried waiting for him but in the end we just gave up and blew the big bug up.

They could do with making him a bit tougher or immune to certain effects. What do they expect players to do, bunch around him like human shields?

Accolades channel is better for these sort of things.

You're not going to get it through a PUG.

PUGs will simply nuke the Spawnmother and ignore Vanderveer.

The strat is pretty easy, just keep everything aggroed on everyone except Vanderveer, as well as keeping him healed.

I did this once in a pug, but only because someone suggested it at the beginning and we had a really strong group.

Who would be nuts enough to run with those... people?

Such a mission is doomed to fail, even with the simplicity of Bug hunt.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Just kill spawn mother get Power Cell and get the heck out. Since this is only way to reliable get a power cell in a pug. I know don't pug but I don't/ won't to wait on team formation. I got 22 toons that I want to cycle through each day. Blame OCD.

Rant: Since Timers and optionals on space STFs for average/casual players (low DPS) are pain in the arz. I play for fun, really enjoy the content, just not the crappy post DR rule changes. But I still dump $ to by Zen like a dumbbell. But that coming to a halt. It takes to long to do anything even on one toon. They are slowly sapping the fun factor out of the game. Good Job. I won't quit I will ride this thing out till City of Hero ending. Hope Game has another 3-4 years left I know wish.

uhh ok, your favorite group then. I pretty much pug so I don't know where the awesome group is. And not too much of that anymore.

What do we earn by letting Lt whatever use his charges ? More reward, accolade, raining candies ?

I'm really curious, I never did Bug Hung that way. Always gank the queen so fast she doesn't have enough time to scream.

I used to try at the beginning but i just ended up being the only one so i just go for the big bug now and ignore the other objectives. That being said he takes insanely long times i noticed to set a charge I wanted to throttle him and tell him to shut up and set the next charge lol.

If anyone calls out for a group to do those objectives I would not mind trying again. I just go with the flow since its iffy if we can even get the alarm bugs in some groups its hard to know if your going to succeed or not.

I had one last night where I am pretty sure 2 out of the 5 avatars were actually being controlled by someone in the group so they just sat in dumb places causing me to die repeatedly so I kinda avoid stf's as they are now. We completed it but it was not nice watching as two guys sat in a corner doing nothing and only when i went up to them and stood beside them did they move and then not for long.

so half the time i dont even know if we have a truly full group with 5 people controlling 5 avatars soo yeah .. no.. but if i see something in zone chat one day i might send a pm just to do it.

And yes I only pug organization in MMO's is highly overrated. I found since I stopped joining fleets and organizations that my game enjoyment has gone up.

2/4 is the best I've gotten.

Most groups are reluctant to spend the extra time to do it.

I've been with a decent and dedicated group who initially tried to get the optional on Elite. It was horribly grindy, difficult and a major pain in the rear. Sad part is I don't remember if we ever completed it, but I will say since then we've never tired again.

It's something we don't even consider anymore.

we tried it in a high damage pug, we destroyed everything that got near the NPC

we had to bail and kill the queen (in seconds, the group was pretty strong)

the progress bar just doesn't move fast enough, imho

    EDIT: on elite

I've added it to the list of impossible optionals, which includes not entering an acid pool, staying out of a fluidic bubble, and keeping the crawlers from attaching themselves to a player.

A real bonus reward would be an additional Argonite, or even a Plekton to mix things up. Such a sweet reward would really inspire teams to go for it, I think. And I don't think giving one of these rewards would break Cryptic's bank, although their metrics might say otherwise.

In ancient Rome, there was a defense called the "tortoise": shields outward in the front row, and shields over the heads of the entire group. But I don't think that's what you meant.

Fighter with 3 INT and 18 STR: "No, you will *not* use me as a shield again! I'm not *that* stupid!"

Tried it once when it first came out with a very strong fully upgraded/spec'd group. Two engineers are essentially required to baby sit V with cover shields because things will just randomly drop interest in the 3 people trying to hold aggro on the room and spew TRIBBLE at him. I think we mathed it out to 8 or 9 total hits on V before you just hard fail because his fall down/get up animation is so frustratingly long. Either way every bomb is 5 marks iirc, and the amount of time you spend going for the optional is practically as long as the whole run up to the queen. Bad planning by cryptic and not enough interest in the stf on tribble that they ever had a chance to fine tune it.

he takes too long to set the bomb... even if I keep everything off of him, he still takes too long.

Can't be bothered with V because too busy trying to survive against the Queen. No luck killing the Queen lately. Her health keeps regenerating to full and there are too many bugs helping her out. I wouldn't even call it fair.

debuffs for them, buffs for you. It helps, try it

And that is what it comes down to, the additional kudos for getting the bonus is not worth the risk of a total fail because of the time needed to get the bonus. Every team I was with during the DR rep grind was focused on getting in, getting queen, and getting out. :D

well, get a tac and a sci,

but engineers really can rock this level better than tacs... cover shield, medical generator protected by the shields, turrets and mines
