There was always dissatisfaction about that game in the community, because the grind, the pew pew, missing variety and missing Star Trek atmosphere in STO.

But since the last month things getting worse. Not only in game, but also in the community. And it feels like it will be the end. The end of the game or the end of the community. Or maybe a change. A lot of old players are gone or will left the game. Players who played STO for years. Players who like Star Trek.

It's time to talk. We made mistakes and you (Cryptic/PWE) made mistakes. Thats human. ;)
I believe there will be not so much rage in the community if you talk to us and stand for your mistakes. A big issue is your information policy. So, talk to us.

Explain why you changed things in game and explain how you will correct things. What is your plan for STO? Why the game becomes more and more grind, why you changed things players loves? When will be old and annoying bugs get fixed?

Its time for you to take a step forward.

I believe if players don't like the idea of a Star Trek MMO and don't like Star Trek and Star Trek:Online, there wouldn't be so much rage and frustration. A lot of players want this game, want to play in the Star Trek universe and have still hope, that you fullfil our dreams (not all of them).

So give you a touch and talk to us (especially in the EU communities, still no information of winter event on the german sites and the german community is dying).

Thanks. :)

Why should they talk to us? In their opinion "DR is the best expansion ever and the players love it". See? no need to talk, since everything is all-right.

Thats marketing speech and that is not helping (anymore). The community doesn't believe it and Cryptic/PWE should noticed it. So its time for a change. ;)

I'd be surprised if less than six new bugs were introduced with today's patch...

Players are just playing their game. We can't change the scope of the game play nor how they run this game. Players/Members here on the forum will voice their own opinions on the game and what's happening. That's about it they can do. Now if someone reading all the comments then they can take these comments to the right department or next conference meeting. Changes come from the top. So who knows what will happen next. Just play the game and enjoy what you have to play!

    to the OP

Yes, well, there's something wrong on the business side of this game. And it's had a serious effect on the playerbase. While the game still looks good (artwork) it's functioning more like a paywalled mobile (meaning mobile device, like a phone) piece of garbage.

And I don't think this is a dev issue. I think it's part of the groupthink (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupthink) in the gaming world now, and influence from other markets. Lets face it, Perfect World is overseas, and not overseas Europe, overseas China/Korea/etc. This has consequences for the game. At the end of the day, meaning - at the crux of this, I don't think the people making business decisions for this game understand their customer base.

I'll stick around for a while longer, it's their sandbox and their rules, that's the way it always is with these games. But lots of people are not.

imho, where things are right now, this is what would fix it

    (1) blue mk iii and xiv gear should drop nonstop if the mobs are level appropriate
    (2) level-gear-boxes should drop up to blue mk xiv gear
    (3) later on, possibly, some examination of upgrade costs, perhaps "sale" events for upgrade costs

That would allow people to have access to the game, to be able to gear ships and participate in the game. That would fill the ques and people could go back to enjoying the game and then have reason again to spend their $$$ on ships and lockboxes and shipslots and all sorts of other crazy things.

oh, I don't think anything like the suggestions I made will occur,

there's some big disconnect in the business end of this game right now

who knows, maybe they are making $$ hand over fist, all while players leave the game

my guess is that there's something nutty going on between the US development offices and the (domestic and overseas) business end

    You're way too optimistic.

Christmas for many companies mean a 2-week break. I wouldn't be surprised if the devs went on a little vacation while their game burns to the ground.

Explain why you changed things in game and explain how you will correct things.

Because PWE directed them to adopt the Asian Grind-Fest Monetization model.
What is your plan for STO? Why the game becomes more and more grind, why you changed things players loves?

    See above.
When will be old and annoying bugs get fixed?

When PWE ends their funding for content and half the content Devs are transferred to ther games, and the other half are transferred over to Bug Fixes and polishing until the Servers are shut down.

This is basically what I am saying for quite some time. Stop. Treating. The playerbase. Like. Idiots.. Nobody can really say he or she is upset about changes that are made to a F2P MMO arcade game. And every change can be justified since we all know it's a business and it needs to make money. What I personally and many other people can't stand is the attitude of treating the players like idiots. No more PR-nonsense, no more redacted bulldung, just return to the state it was a long time ago. Devs actually talking about what they do, why changes are made and even if they are made because "players advanced too fast, that negatively impacted our metrics, so we had to correct it". That's fine. But say it!. Be honest.

And its not just PWE/Cryptic thats the problem. Many complain and many spend alot of money at the same time. As long as the whales spend money they are not ging to do anything to change the game. Why should they. You complain and gave them alot of money anyways.

Dev's don't listen to the community because they 'hear' what we are saying but think we are wrong/whining/entitled etc.

The core of the problem is that the devs don't understand the game. They have no idea how it works.

When you have the LEAD DESIGNER (not a producer, the guy who actuall is in charge of designing things and sees everything that makes it into the game pass across his desk/screen) saying the stuff he said in Priority1 podcast 200.. you realise why things have gotten in such a state...

He said he couldnt fathom how players are able to build to 40k dps that it must be some form of voodoo black magic. All the while we have multiple examples of content in the Queues that will insta fail if the entire team aren't pulling 30k+. (Eg Vault Ensnared Elite, ANRA, BOKE). You have HP sponge enemies that you have to take down in narrow time window, and without huge dps you will fail.

He said it costs 5k dil to turn a weapon from 12 to 13. :/ No mention that he realises the difference in costs for upgrading things that are VR, UR, epic. Or any acknowledgement of the broken casino rarity upgrade mechanic.

He said that the last XP fiddle didn't change anything because they changed the requirements and the rewards at the same time. Only then he went on to say that actually the patrols had their critter kills reduced and the wrapper rewards increased. On average. So therefore a patrol that is kill heavy when compared to the average (Argala) is actually nerfed as will have less overall reward.

There are so many examples of stuff that is broken in STO because the developers didn't think how would this work with that? Or what happens if players did this? They have a fundamental lack of understanding of basic game mechanics, which in turn means that when player feedback comes along they do not listen to it becuase they think it is wrong. But this interpretation ultimately stems from a misconceived notion of how the game actually functions.

Take loadouts for example. Forget the fact that they STILL don't work correctly. But this was touted as a solution to allow you to switch and change ships at will. This is awesome right?! because now i can buy all those new shiny starships they keep filling the store with.. WRONG. loadouts do not solve the problem as the main issue with switching ships is with how bridge officer skills are learned. Not everyone will run around with 3 science officers called Escort Lt, Escort LtC, Cruiser LtC. They want their crew and often with the expense for rare BOFF traits like SRO, Veteran, Pirate(fed) will only have the right crew for one build. You then need to go and train your boffs to switch ship. If loadouts had included alternate skill trees for BOFFS then this would have worked.

Until the devs learn how the players play the game - u know by talking to us and perhaps asking us - rather than looking at their stupid spreadsheets, this game is doomed. DOOMED. DOOMED.

yeah, while this won't be stated, this is what that it looks like.

I could write a page on guessing why things are they way they are with DR, but if that page was condensed to one sentence, it would be something like that.

EDIT: I'd say the star wars model is much better, the f2p version of the game is essentially a limited demo mode. You have to pay the monthly to unlock everything, once you pay that it's completely open. Separate to that, is a store for shiny things.
