Windows 8.1 Update --> Instant Game Crash

Okay, now I'm positive that it's gutta do with the Windows 8.1 update. When I cumpletely re-installed Windows after the crashes happened last time, it went back to Windows 8 and all worked fine, absolutely no problems.

Now I just re-installed the Windows 8.1 update again after playing the game perfectly fine for a full week on Windows 8 without any updates. The crash is telling me that I should update my video drivers, butt they are updated already.

I am using an Envidia GeForce GTX 590 with two cores. I really don't wanna re-install Windows again. It's forcing me to upgrade to Windows 8.1 ... since I can't avoid it, I at least wanna be able to play STO ... so what shall I do? I am downloading the drivers for my GFX again, butt they're the exact same drivers as before, they are supposed to run on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 ...

Well, the only way now is to go back to Windows 7 to avoid any upgrades to 8.1 or 8 at all. The disadvantage is that Windows 7 will not run in 64-bit mode. Therefore I will lose a lot of speed and I'm not even sure if Windows 7 recognizes and accepts SSD storage devices to run the OS.

Thanks in advance for helping a lost Vorta out. :(

Are you using avast anti-virus? if so this is known to cause crashes with windows 8.1 and graphics drivers... try uninstalling and see if it works. if it does then find a different anti-virus

As far as I know W7 will work fine with x64 and will recognize your SSD just fine. As I've got the exact setup at my work :D.

You might want to check if your w7 installation is a 32bit version, if so; try to get a x64 instead.

And don't forget; W7 and W8 allows multiboot, so you could have W7 and W8 at the same time.

Is this the driver pack you've installed?

    Nerf is OP, plz nerf
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

I just found out what is causing the issue. It's the "Delta Rising" loading screen right after the black "CRYPTIC" logo loading screen. Other players have the exact same issue and most of them are using GeForce video cards. It's not the OS directly that's causing it.

I have to run the game launcher in safe mode now and then always reset the video settings back to the values I usually have. It's a work-around to get the game running normally, butt this can't be a permanent "fix". I really hope they're gunna fix the loading screen so that everyone can play normally again.

*Sigh* I can't believe I re-installed my entire computer just for STO and now I realize it wouldn't have been necessary at all. Doing backups of so much data, waiting hours and hours for the system to re-install, putting the data back on the HD, re-installing the whole game over two nights ... oh well ... it's sumfin to learn for next time.
