Massive game lag

echattyechatty Member Posts: 5,924 Arc User
Anytime I sign onto the game now from my home computer it takes forever to even get into the game or I get timeouts on server.

And when I get onto the game the lag and rubberbanding is so bad that just running around ESD bounces me around like a rubber ball. Same in space. My poor ship just keeps bouncing backwards like a rubber band or ball. As it is, it's unplayable. As I said, I can't even run around ESD without getting thrown around like a wayward superball.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

Also, it's so bad that players and npcs look like they're frozen in place, I get server not responding ever few seconds. It's horrible.

I can play the game fine at my son in law's house, but not at mine anymore.

I think you've isolated the issue, do you and your son have the same ISP (internet service provider?)

you connecting tirelessly or wired? there is a great thread in http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/forumdisplay.php?f=401

on how to troubleshoot performance issues.

Yes, my son in law just recently went from DSL to the same inet provider that I have.

This problem started around three or four days ago. Also, my browsers are taking a long time to load web pages, or they time out or they say they can't connect to the inet when my computer and modem say I'm online. Yahoo messenger does the same thing-it will suddenly d/c even when I can see that I'm online.

Right now, I'm trying to log in with another character and get as far as the map change screen, then it d/c me again.

Edit: Finally got her to her ship and TW to ESD. I'll see if she's doing any rubberbanding like my Caitian was.

Edit2: No rubberbanding, but d/c very soon after reaching ESD. Coincidentally, it took quite awhile to load the previous edit.

Okay, I did everything in that linked post and am posting the results here. I don't think renewing my IP did any good, I'm stuck on the character selection screen with no characters and the Play button greyed out. I'd bet money I'm about to be booted on a timeout.

Here's what I got when I ran those tests:

'Path Ping' says your ISP is having serious problems starting at hops #3 and #4, Looks like its time to call your ISP Technical Support and ask them whats going on with your network data packets being thrown away...

I saw that. My husband also said he's seen the cable trucks around this area, so maybe they're aware of the problem and are looking into it. Some of our tv channels randomly go off the air too.

Talking to my son, he thinks either the cable to the modem needs replacing or my router is failing

Okay. My son came over today and replaced my router. Turns out the antenna had somehow gotten broken on the other one.

I still get rubberbanding, but not nearly as bad as it was. Plus no nonresponsiveness when I try to do things like recycle inventory items, or my team doesn't follow me when I'm moving, etc. I'm also not getting booted.

There may also be a small problem in my inet cable itself. My son feels there's a kink in it somewhere, but that will have to wait. Our Trailblazer transmission is a bigger problem than me not being able to play STO.

And askray, I would just like to say that I love your avatar. Magus is one of my favorite Chrono Trigger companions :)

    Yes, exactly.

I'm happy enough right now that I can get back into STO. But I've also gotten back into Oblivion some, so I'm dividing my time between the two.

Thanks for all the help and I hope you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I'll be praying that the server doesn't go down during your dinner hour ;)
