I guess I was on something then. I swear I saw 50 posts with "October 2014" or "September 2014" as a join date on complaints. I guess that my judgement got the better of me of reading all of the complaints.:)
Many of us veterans complain using alt accounts so we don't get banned for complaining. Not kidding, I had a 3 day suspension the last time I complained about a prize not working from one of the Twitch events.
Agreed. Though I'd also postulate that a good number of folks had also grown rather comfortable with the "Three can pug if two can carry" schema of the STFs, which lead to a situation of people who had mediocre gear yet could still run elite and the DPSers who prided themselves on being able to run virtually solo.
I have to admit that IGE was a lot of fun with a 2 person premade. Could we still save the optional despite pugs constantly crossing trigger lines? Some of the runs failed just because we couldn't get a 3rd player to successfully navigate the platforms at the end.
I complain once in a while over something. Or at least show them I'm not happy about something at times. You can't be all pro then you are being biased. However a lot of times, I won't be unless its warranted to complain.
Overall the game is good, just a few things I'm not happy with. But you have to overlook them. As you can't please everyone.
USS Casinghead NCC 92047 launched 2350
Fleet Admiral Stowe - Dominion War Vet.
I list everything they nerfed - pointlessly, for example mirror event, vendor trash, tour the galaxy, exploration, console fabrication, reputation passives and colonization chains, regularly.
I guess I ought to add exp and dil nerfed to that list?
My objective when I complain is to make them understand that yes up until this point people have coped with them removing nearly all of their own game to control the metrics
For example force people into re-playing story missions, so you can show your employer a number on a screen that will prove the story missions are loved.
But now we are at the point where there is nowhere to hide and you HAVE to play their content and fly their ships - the fake star trek ones.
And that's just not happening so talk about your all-time backfire BUT I will give them the benefit of the doubt - that they might be too dumb to realize what they are doing and so that's why I still talk to them
most of the vets who I know who complained just quit so it would appear the new players complain more because there still here whereas the vet went to another game
everything considered a vet would complain more because the Noob doesn't know any better and how he is shafted compared vet who knows just how bad he is being shafted
personally I think cryptic wrote off all vet players with DR and is counting on new player to prolong the game, If this is true the faster all the vets quit the better for cryptic so we don't poison the new players on how it used to be
compared to how we see it now

People have been complaining about this game since it was announced. The very first complaint I can remember is when people found out players would be captains of their own ships instead of being bridge officers.
Your pain runs deep.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.

I'm pretty sure that had more to do with being obnoxious to someone who was giving you free stuff than the mere act of complaining.
It isn't star trek when space is 2D, it isn't star trek when there is no alert system, it isn't star trek when you can't pilot from your bridge and yes, it isn't star trek when all the characters are flying different ships when ALL the shows were based on 1 group of friends on 1 ship.
It also isn't star trek when there is no exploration.
Would all that have been harder to create, more complex and more expensive?
Yes, yes it would and that is why you are playing star trek online: the budget version that would have gone under if it hadn't become a free game.
Is it just me, or the MAJORITY (not all) of the complaints come from people who have been in the game in less than 3 months? Just an observation.
if your looking at the forum join times, thats been shot to hell since the update in forums when it was all changed. dont be fooled by that.
you get the various types of complainers.
you get the types who troll their complaints looking for a receptive audience. there are those types of keyboard warriors on this forum here.
you get those who enjoy eating cheese to go with that whine in moderation of a got clubbing with sharpened keyboards with the added attraction of sharpened keys from other forum goes. but these are the types that usually solve themselves if the complainer looks around first and finds the information before posting it.
then you got the type that will complain because they feel compelled because they put money into it figuring a false delusion they have investment in the game, or an entitlement claim which is by far the most numerous and most frequent on these forums, some can be short and rude, others can be walls of death text accompanied by tl;dr.
while i could go on in a sarcastic fashion about the complaints on the forum, do you have a point beyond pointing out that complaints exist? :P
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Nah...it's all over...lots of people who can't deal being without their ez-mode 3 minute elites and the fact that they may have to upgrade.
Upgrading doesn't provide that much benefit. Most of the scaling comes from keybinds and piloting. And DR effectively upped the requirements for that.
One of my complaints as someone with all Mk XIV UR or better is that it's not that noticeable a gain. I'm still completing Elites and Advanced content. And I think the difficulty increase is probably overstated now by the community after nerfs.
But you can't really outgear group content. And that is, conventionally, an option for less skilled players in MMOs.
Skill vs. gear.
But in STO, skill has an absolute advantage so that once someone hits their personal skill plateau where doing better for them personally would require more effort than it's worth for them, they stop progressing.
Whereas I think in more conventional MMOs, it's like this:
The first wave of endgame content requires you to hit your personal optimal level of skill and is then quickly trivialized by gear.
The second wave of endgame content requires the first wave's gear and provides you gear to trivialize it.
Etc.
There isn't a progression path in STO. It was never that you did Infected until you can do Khitomer Accord until you can do The Cure until you can do Hive. Hive is the hardest ground and Infected Space is the easiest but Khitomer Accord ground is the easiest ground and Khitomer Accord space is probably the hardest space even with the massive spam in Hive.
Nothing gets trivialized and therefore there is no progression. We're sitting on level 60 now and the same content from level 50 remains viable. Which I'm sure Cryptic sees as a plus but it means we never move on to the new challenge or get to steamroll the old one.
Blizz recently retuned WoW to reduce the absurdity of number inflation, because the damage digits were making it hard for novice players to track and "felt" wrong. But one thing they made sure to keep was that most old content remained trivial to a geared high level player.
I think there's something to that. It feels like we're never past anything in STO except by ability. It's not like another 10 levels really revolutionized that. Or another 2 Mks of gear. Or UR or Epic gear. Nothing is retired to farm status unless you got good enough to do it... and there are few unique reasons to visit any one piece of content.
I guess all of this isn't really a complaint but an observation. My one major complaint has always boiled down to attitude and empathy level. When Cryptic was issuing LTS refunds after launch, I missed my chance by one day. And the reason I nearly did that was because they were discounting the product too quickly. The game went from $60 to $20 or something inside two months and I never really bought that as sound strategy. It was within their rights and car dealers and airlines do that kind of thing all the time but I don't like my entertainment companies to run "by the numbers" quite that hard. I want a value-added focus like Disney or Starbucks.
I guess I've felt like Cryptic is good at making games fast and engineering systems but they never stop making a game to just run and enhance one. They have come a long way in five years and even more in ten. They've successfully courted whales but they've never simply engaged middle of the road premium customers with a premium product.
You rarely make a purchase and say, "This is more than I'd hoped for. They thought of everything. I feel supported."
Of the Cryptic teams, I'd say environmental art is the best at doing this and you can see this in places like ESD where they got everything down to the signs. Followed by content, where they do manage the odd easter egg or hidden extra. Followed by ship and ground character art. Followed by systems design. I think the Temporal ships, the Galaxy-X shotgun lance, the Galaxy saucer getting powers, and the set bonuses are primarily where you see these little value extras. But I feel like they're more about setting up obstacles for us and selling incomplete solutions to those obstacles.
"How can we stop the players?" seems like it must be a prevailing discussion topic and one that often comes up months or years after introducing something.
I think in games like WoW, they typically get over setting up the challenges very early into the development cycle and then become focused primarily on how they can add a feeling of luxury to the game with remote vendors, cosmetic extras, travel shortcuts, etc.
I feel like STO's systems design is almost always in the state of mind where they have to add and raise obstacles, with little focus on value or luxury. And that they create value only by taking away or raising the bar.
Whereas I feel like other MMOs I have played setup the challenge fairly quickly and then spend most of their time adding player value offerings, even if it trivializes the challenge or some content.
You aren't alone. Plenty of people complain. No one is 100% happy with the game, or the direction PWE is taking it, or the disdain some devs have publicly shown towards their customers.
yeah, I regularly talk about stuff I think needs fixed.
But I'm nice about it and don't spew rage when I do it.
There are a lot of angry complaints and rants around here but a good number of them is valid.
STO is so full of bugs it not funny anymore, it's almost like is has become an open beta. Instead of fixing long standing issues they keep adding new stuff that's also bugged as hell.
It surely does not excuse the rage rants we see so often but it sure is a topic that needs a whole lot of attention which it clearly is not given seeing as about 1/3 of the game's mechanics are either heavily bugged and some of them outright broken.
Since Beta here too...LOTs of complaining...let me see 9.5 seasons and 2 expansions so thats about 11.5X seen more complaining on forums/facebook/tweets...but getting worse with the time

If you've been proven wrong, you have to accept the fact. How can you be proud if your claim is wrong?
