Love the "new" Mirror Invasion

I just wanted to say that having not played the Mirror queue event since before we got the fleet starbases, I think this new version is great. Whoever is responsible for the work on this did a really great job. Too bad it's only one of the once in a while events, this would make a great every day runner.

Holes open up, ships pop out. I blow up ships, close hole. Eventually a dreadnought comes out, I pop it too. It really isn't all that impressive, and is actually somewhat formulaic considering the last few queue's they've released. I mean, the newest one had THREE dreadnoughts. Can't we top that?

Seriously though, the xp gain is essentially nonexistent and it doesn't even have the new marks as a possible reward. It is a timed event, so no matter how well I play I can't make it go any faster.. which is frustrating, especially for something a player feels compelled to run each day. That sort of design just makes me want to be lazy, as even giving it the most marginal of efforts is overkill. And then of course there's the big reward, if I suffer through it 14 times I get to add 50k dilithium ore I'll never need (I'm over 650k atm, and that's small compared to many), reputation marks (whoop de doo, even the new ones are over 1500 and I've already bought two ground items.. and any leftovers turn into dil ore.. see #1), and a shotgun - which I'm guessing is going to turn out to be a blue mk XII, seeing as the box it comes in is blue. Even if it's purple Mk XII.. better, but still not terribly exciting.

It's something new, true.. and I don't want to sound like I'm totally trashing the place.. but I was rather hoping for a decent place to grind XP at the very least.

This is my second go around on the new MIU, My first was the overhauled one in Feb, and despite a few problems with afker's, I love it.

    I enjoy the event.

At least it gives me something to do since STF's are now a complete waste of time. I noticed that even on the Mirror Event though the Advanced one is completely empty.

At least the Mirror Event is fun and actually gives some rewards for the time invested.

A request: can the rebreather be added as item? It's a bit of a shame only romulans get access to that gadget.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I enjoy it but it's a bit easy.

Cloak - go to where you need to power up the station, uncloak and power it up.

Avoid contact with the enemy, use any movement buffs, close any rifts on the way but mostly focus on getting the station to max as quickly as poss.

Then you'll be able to handle the spawns easy.

    I enjoy the event too.

Like it, that as an tactic officer i engage the enemies. As an science officer i have to close those rifts.

But teamplay is important, so that as a science officer i can concentrate on the rifts and not manage the enemies at the rifts.

But maybe after 14 days with four toons this mission is nothing special anymore. It becomes boring grind.

Everyone should be closing the rifts. The rifts are all that really matters. Blow up the enemies coming out of the rift, then close the rift. Rinse and repeat. TRIBBLE the station, its entire damage output is probably a tiny fraction of what I do.

DSDs are better than sci-ships for this. They can do more DPS, and they can close rifts just as fast.

Now if they had changed it so that instead of endless rifts on a seemingly endless timer, the timer would stop when the twenty rifts were closed and you'd fight the big ship this event would be a lot more enjoyable.

It hurts seeing my old warhorse T5s miss out on mastery points for the captains that don't have a free upgrade ship but until the upgrade token works on all the ships of that class/pack (Andorian Kumari, Oddy, Vesta, etc) I'm not buying any. Which is good that they don't as I don't want to give STO any money for this grindiest of grindy grinds that upends the alt-friendly nature of the game expansion.

I like this one too. The only thing that could be improved is either
    1) never stop spawning rifts or
    2) kill the timer and move on to phase 2 after 25 or 30 or whatever rifts are done.

Because sitting there for 2-3 min with nothing to do when you get an epic good group is boring.

I would prefer 1) with a bonus for each rift closed, and after 25 or so, it should kinda go nuts and open them at an increasing rate after that, or maintain the rate but open them "100%" so they immediately crank out typhoons instead of trash.

I have only two real requests for this mission.

    1) Reduce the size of the target box (or whatever it is called) around the station.

Once you get lots of mobs surrounding it and they are in close it is a real pain to target them as any time you click on them you select the station instead because it's so damn big. You can try to tab through to find the ship you want but with 20+ NPCs it is a real pain.

    2) Put a timer on the rep tab somewhere so we can see how long until we can next earn a mirror transporter thingy.

Aside from that minor issue i'm enjoying it. My Phantom absolutely ravages the mirror ships in there!
Nice tip for one shoting the Typhoons is to expose them with your intel drone thing and then once they are vulnerable you fire a fully buffed Phantom phaser lance at them point blank.

Grav wells are crazy in this mission though, you can hoover up 10-20 ships at a time if you are lucky!

I wish Obisek would just STFU and allow us to play without all the stupid cutscenes and comments. He's just as yappy in the vault too- guess whatever dev did the voice needs some positive reinforcement from hearing himself talk all the time.

    /300 seconds

*as a filler while I wait to reply to another post I have to thank all the noobs that trashed my final run of the night. Somehow- for whatever reason we managed to get no advancement in the tiers (NOT ONE BONUS POINT), and I don't think any rifts got closed by anyone else. I can't understand how that happened when I brought my best ship and was taking down battleships in under 5 seconds. We did better on a previous run where I took my T3 cruiser and I forgot to mount any TAC consoles. You rookies should be ashamed of yourselves.

I remember having that kind of 'dead times' on a couple of runs the last time this was running; the idea of the Empire stepping things up and moving direct to phase 2 after a certain number of rifts are closed seems a reasonable solution. Now, if I read the second correctly, in that scenario the timer would remain, but all rifts that form after the players close X of them are opened at full size... that could be a good wrinkle for Advanced or Elite iterations.

Another possible wrinkle would be the addition of a mini-boss in the form of an upgraded Typhoon (among the 'improvements' is that it has the Weapon System Efficiency 'aura' running at all times). Its spawn rules would, I imagine, go something like this:

    • when a rift becomes large enough to permit a Typhoon to pass through, there is an X% chance the miniboss will enter as well;
    • thereafter, while at least one such rift is open, there is a chance (checked every 30 seconds) that the miniboss will make an appearance - note, the chance is multiplied by the number of elegible rifts, with a max multipler of 4;
    • these checks cease when the miniboss does arrive - that is, you will under no circumstances have two in a given run (either simultaneously or a second appearing after the first is sunk)

Related: I'm kind of surprised this event doesn't have an an analogue of the Tholian Capital Punishment accolade for sinking every possible dreadnought... as a nod to a certain ARPG, I would suggest the accolade for dispatching every possible miniboss be dubbed 'Sever the Right Hand'.
