Rubberbanding (Test Results Inside)

Hi folks.

Read the forum sticky and posted my results for each test run. Have been getting bad rubberbanding. My internet service provider is Cogeco and I am contacting from Georgetown, ON, CAN. Any suggestions on how to improve would be greatly appreciated.

Now your sustained throughput jumps all over the pace, which implies a inconsistent connection quality issue of some kind... Now inconsistent throughput could also be caused by heavy network load on the Cryptic diagnostic sever, (not the STO Servers, as their out of the picture for the 'Net Test' diagnostics) but since my results aren't seeing this, this is unlikely to be the case, and were talking about a real connection quality issue of some kind...

Now a 100% loss on 'Path Ping' could be caused by the router (Hop #2) not supporting the protocol that 'Path Ping' uses, but this node also appears to be the gateway your ISP uses to transition from internal 'Private Address' network (see RFC1918 for details) to the 'Public' Internet, with the potential NAT bottleneck of a network Firewall. And given that 'Net Test' is showing a network connection quality issue of some kind, this looks like the sore thumb of all your results...

You might want to contact your ISP and complain about a NAT gateway bottleneck on your local ISP network...

Thanks very much for the explanation. Hopefully I will be able to explain it to my ISP. Do you think sending them these results would help? Also, could you X out my IP too? I don't want anyone getting in to my business. I did the same.

I've only started seeing rubberbanding in social zones like DS9 & ESD, and only since DR released. It's thankfully limited to those locations so far, but in the case of ESD, I've also fallen though the deck when running back to the main gallery from the Admiral's office area. Since I have a high-speed fiber optic 'net access (7Mbps down/5Mbps up), I don't normally see lag beyond the initial login, with the notable exception of the social zones, where I sometimes lose movement control of my alts completely, including rubberbanding in reverse.

Since these issues have gotten worse since DR, I cannot attribute them to my connection or hardware, but rather additional load issues with the STO servers. It seems to me that the game code is creatiing some of these issues... :(

I do fine till I hit the cryptic stuff...not great but I hit the patchservers and I get some terrible packet loss

Now keep in mind that just a 2% packet loss will result in noticeable lag and rubber-banding in the STO Client. For lag free reliable game play, you should be having ZERO packet loss, and this is simply not the case here...

The trouble appears to start when you data packets leave private address space (10.x.y.z) and starts to enter the real Internet. So this may be a problem with your local building network having excessive network congestion on its gateway to the Internet. Looks like its time to contact your ISP and ask them why their throwing away your data packets...
