Since I've downloaded the Delta Rising patch I haven't been able to play STO. The game manages to load up to the 'Delta Rising' screen, and then it crashes. I've retried several times, and twice out of these attempts my NVIDIA drivers have crashed alongside the game. I've also noticed that in-between the Cryptic screen and the Delta Rising screen the monitor flashes blue briefly.
Each time I start up the Client after a crash it says asks if I'd like to verify the game files. I've tried that twice now, and it hasn't helped anything. I was hoping that after yesterday's patch the game might actually load up, but nothing has changed.
If anyone could help, that would be great! I don't want to file a support ticket just yet until I know that none of you forum folks can help out.
Thanks!
Edit -
This is what my driver says when it crashes.

I have the same issue with the Nvidia 9400GT Rachaeldelta... I am hoping Nvidia releases a driver update for the game, or Perfect World Fixes it
I have had some luck loading up using safe mode... Open the options on the launcher, and pick safe mode... They recommended to me that I try switching to different DirectX 3d Options in the Display tab of your ingame options as well but no effect...
I also tried messing around with the full screen option in the Launcher options as well... I am still having this issue and having to run safe mode everytime...
I also noticed that when I do play certain missions are VERY low framerate even with graphics bottomed out... Typically I run fine with medium to high on certain options... I believe this is related to the issue...
If you get it running and have this same problem and it isn't typical please post it here, as it may be a common thing.
Temporary fix that worked for me in a nutshell:
Start Star Trek Online Launcher
Before engaging click the options
Scroll down the options and check "Safe mode"
The game should load (probably in a smaller screen) and then you can maximize after it loads up.
Hope that helps for now... Good to see I am not the only person with this issue.

Got the same problem and tried your solution but it still crashes on the Delta Rising screen. The thing is, if this helps, it worked perfectly fine until I attempted to enter the gate to the Delta Quadrant. Specifically it's the mission "A step between stars" that's bugged. As soon as you click on it for the briefing, it goes to a loading screen which then crashes.
To be clear though, you can get in to the game on any other character you have that has not attempted to start this mission. Similarly you can get back in to the game on the character that has if you first load a character that hasn't, however, if you attempt to start "A step between stars" again, the game crashes on the loading screen.
In other words, it's the Delta rising content that's bugged. Everything else works fine.

Hi, this worked for me! I booted the game up in Safe Mode and it worked perfectly. Thank you!

Still not working for me. I am trying to uninstall Arc and STO again, then reinstalling. Should take most of the day. Before the emergency patch last night I was on and able to play.

I've noticed that when I boot it up in Safe Mode I have to wait until the game's on the 'select your character' type screen before putting the game into fullscreen, otherwise it crashes beforehand. Maybe that'll help?
Seems to work for me as well, although not quite what I'd hoped for (yet, anyway). Started the game client in safe mode with full screen turned off, then at the character screen, raised it to windowed max, and set the DirectX 3D to "9" (vs. 9ex or 11). Managed to run ~3 hours without a single crash... while booted from Windows directly. It's probably also worth noting that I have not (yet) tried any of the newer DR content in this state .
Will check again later on OS X side; hopefully similar settings will take care of that as well.
Edit: Tried safe mode, full screen off, changed to windowed @ 2048, entered game @ ESD, collected from a few doff missions, and then... crash. There doesn't appear to be any DirectX settings available under Options with the Mac client (maybe it's buried in the wineserver config?).
System specs for the curious:
Mac mini Server (mid 2011)
Intel Core i7 (quad core) @ 2GHz
8GB RAM
Intel HD 3000 512MB
OS X 10.10 Yosemite
Windows 7 (64-bit)
Boot Camp/Parallels 9
I have the same problem too; I always have to start in safe mode, and even then during most of the new stuff, low framerate. What the heck is the problem here? I really hope Cryptic can track it down.
It's funny how many people have this issue. First I thought I would always have to run the game in safe mode, butt I realized that doing it once is enuff and it returns to it's normal working state.
Because of this crash issue, I uninstalled my whole OS ... how silly of me. It seemed first like nuffin would help. Thanks to this, I will have to re-download all my games (Train Simulator is over 30 GB of data, and with my crappy connection speed, this is taking a week or longer). Oh well! Glad I wasn't the only one having this issue.

I have been having the exact same issue. Seems like it is nothing we have done......I should not have to log in on safe mode to play a game. This issue is also not centered around a certain OS or system either.
Uninstalling everything including Arc did not work either.
Having similar issue. I load the game and it crashes on the Delta Rising screen. Noticed no patch notes speak to fixing this. Had a community moderator tell me its only a small number of players effected. The launcher has submitted DOZENS of tickets for me asking what I was doing when the game crashed over the last few weeks. I have had no response.
Sometimes the game will load telling me that its checking drivers in the process - maybe 1 in 10 attempts on avg. I see no reason why should have to load the game in Safe Mode.
PC:
ASUS R700V
CPU i5 3230 2.6GHz
8 GB RAM
1TB HDD
Win 8.1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 635 - 2GB
All drivers and programs up to date. I see no reason for this considering the age of the game. It should run like a dream on max settings.
I got that crash/error message about "D3D11 Device removed due to DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG" on my old computer rig with my old Nvidia 8800GT card. It was mostly because the computer was overheating and the card was dying. I didn't get the error message after I updated the card to an Nvidia 260 GTX, until that card started to overheat and die. Now I've got a completely new rig with an Nvidia 560 GTX and I haven't seen that error message since (though this rig had a bad RAM stick that caused all kinds of other headaches).
Do you have HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner installed so you can monitor your GPU's temperature?

In your Sto menu, you have to go to the options button. Then press full screen. Save and engage. Once you are in the character menu you have to go to the options button and then the display button. Now press the windowed maximized (or something like that). This should work.

For those who have issues where STO crashes or hangs on the DR splash screen this will rectify the issue.
From launcher go to options and set to safe mode then launch.
When launched from the options tab on character select screen set your card to DX9 .. Exit then restart.
On restart you should still be in windowed mode .... Set to full screen and card to AUTO NOT DX11 DX9 DX9ex ... save .... set your other graphics options and save .... exit then restart.
Your Hang or crash on DR Spash screen should now be resolved.
Please note that if you are using a system that uses DX11 STO does take slightly longer to load than on DX9
The solution I have detailed worked for me .... this was given to me by another player.

Yup - 6 out of 8GB free, clear and functioning within established parameters.
Okay, well, it's clear you didn't run the Memtest, because you replied 14 minutes after I posted and it takes at least 30 minutes to run that test. So I'll just stop giving ideas if you're just going to pretend to do them.
