The Kazon tech story upgrade seems lazy...

dark4blooddark4blood Member Posts: 1,192 Arc User
Unless Cryptic explains that Seska's Son helped the Kazon by leading them, this idea that the Kazon could adapt so quickly to Alpha Quadrant tech is ridiculous.

Kazon Raider [T5]

Kazon vessels were the scourge of the U.S.S. Voyager's early days in the Delta Quadrant. Though relatively low-tech compared to many other species' modern starships, they were used effectively by the ruthless Kazon in numerous encounters. Over the years since their encounters with Captain Janeway, the Kazon have salvaged, scavenged and raided all manner of updated technology, further enhancing the threat they pose to the more civilized races of the Delta Quadrant.

All their ships were stolen from the trabe. They could just as easily keep stealing. They'd always be a few steps behind, and that's exactly how it feels when you fight them.

They're weaker than Borg, voth and undine. About as tough as breen in my limited time on tribble. Which isn't a compliment to them. They're not powerful. They just haven't stagnated.

When you're talking orders-of-magnitude advances, yeah. As presented, Kazon tech might have been between Ent and TOS levels. Jumping from that to T5 in a single generation is impressive.

Honestly though, this whole game has so jumped the shark with this expansion, who cares anymore? Once upon a time, it felt like the game was made by fanboys with some 'gotta pay the bills' stuff tacked on. Now it seems more like a business with some fan concessions. There may be some good writers and game-balance people who really care still, but whoever is making the top decisions clearly does not, so why should we?

Compare the advances in the past ten years to the twenty years before...compare those twenty years to the forty years before...compare those forty years to the eighty before, etc, etc, etc.

I originally watched The Thing on Beta.
Took like 4 hours because the machine kept on breaking.

32 years ago I was listening to the Beach Boys on 8 track. 8 track sucked!

I had to buy soft drinks bottled in hard glass, and carry them in a cardboard case!

And all the change in the last 32 years of your life might be one tier of development, maybe two. Kazon jumping to T5 would be like moving from the early Model T to the Porsche 918. Its not just advances, but orders of magnitude difference. The idea of taking a bunch of sponge-headed gang-bangers seriously, to me thats up there with the Snowman Invasion from the Winter Event. Just a bunch of 'yeah whatever,' because logic doesn't apply anymore.

So about 100 year advancement in 32 years?

Of course... 40 years ago 40 Federation ships couldn't dent a Borg Cube. Nowadays, a single Escort blows up a Borg Cube in 10 seconds. That seems more like going from a Musket to an anti-tank missile.

Well, everything happens fast once you get replicators. Plenty of Delta races seemed to have them once you got just outside the Kazon part of space. Maybe their encounter with Voyager led them to track down replicators elsewhere in the quadrant.

Once you have those, you can make other upgrades rapidly.

Now, hull configurations take time but Klingons have shown that you can keep or exceed pace with anyone if you don't make a priority out of fiddling with the hull configurations.

The Kazon have not DEVELOPED anything new.
They've stolen lots of new stuff and stuck that to their ships.

32 years is nothing for the kazon to have been full on T6.

Think about there society there not scientists there conquerors.

They got the tech we saw on the show 32 years ago by killing off there masters.... which means they went from even more primitive to flying around space.

There is nothing saying that in the last 32 years they wouldn't have subjugated a few more civilizations or colonies at least. They seemed to be pretty darn good scavangers. It seems reasonable that hey would have been upgrading there ships with what they managed to put under there boot through sheer will.

The khazon where always underdeveloped. On the show they should have been the non hive version of the borg. Where all there ships should have looked a bit different as different maj (what ever there leaders called themselves) strapped bits and pieces of salvage to there ships. They would have been more interesting.

Anyway ya I say T5/5U is not that much of a jump from where they where. Lets also get real... I remember Doc McCoy visiting the Picardprise season one. So obviously it doesn't take 100s of years go jump from TOS tech to Next Gen.

It may be an error, but it may also fit for scavengers. ;)

That said... Remember - these are ships from the Lobi Consortium. The same guys that can turn an Undine Bioship into a Tier5 (Upgradeable) vessel for non-Undine. I figure they shouldn't have such a big problem of upgrading Kazon ship components where necessary.

32 years to get to a point where we were 20 years before is actually pretty bad.

And hey, who did they have to pillage exactly? All those xenophobic empires that kicked voyagers TRIBBLE left and right? Yeah good luck with that.

I am flat our AMAZED that in 32 years noone started mopping up the khazon and just exterminating them.

Well, the Kazon were primitive...the Borg couldn't even be bothered assimilating them, but they were aboard Voyager for however many days or weeks and when they abandoned ship, they used escape pods, which are all fitted with phasers and transporters. It's not impossible that they could have backwards engineered something for the first time ever.

Their ships, because they were originally stolen were actually quite powerful. those big cruisers they had could give voyager a run for their money.

the problem the kazon had was even though they were warlike they were scattered into different sects. if they pooled their resources together they would be quite formidable in numbers and ruthlessness. its very conceivable they could have could have stolen tech from any number of other worlds, or taken inspiration from data they acquired from voyager or seska.

I grew up with a NES and a Sega Genesis, so when I got a Playstation for my birthday, I couldn't believe how much better the games looked. That was 1996, and here we are nearly 20 years later. It's pretty amazing how far things have advanced.

They have scavenged, salvaged and raided to get to their current level.
The Kazon still lack the understanding, but nothing prevents them from using that technology.
