NOT wasting money on master key even if they are on sale, when t5 cost zen to upgrade

With the necessity of upgrading tier 5 ships to tier 5 upgraded ships with Zen there is no way on this Earth will be buy master keys. I was never a fan of lock boxes, with the new expansion has made it more of a dislike for them more then ever.:mad:

    Lockbox ships will be upgradeable for free. But chances of getting one of those ships out of a box are very low indeed.

    I am uncertain what Lockboxes have to do with T5U Upgrade Tokens - especially since Lockbox ships get the T5U Upgrade for free - but since there will probably be a new Lockbox launching with or shortly after Delta Rising any discount on Keys is a good thing for those who use them, IMO.
    STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

    But if you wanna buy keys you want to fly lock box/lobi ships which means you do not need to upgrade the t5 ships.

    What are you even complaining about?

    buy master keys with money to open up lockboxes? I don't think you know how it works.
    But it is adorable.

    Pro tip: Buy master keys to sell on the exchange then with the EC, buy what you want.

    Gambling is for suckers.

    I was waiting for a master key sale a couple of weeks ago since I knew that it would coincide with the release of Delta Rising.

    I was interested in getting the Mk XII version of the Jem'hadar space set from the Lobi Store for 200 Lobi Crystals, but it seems that set is no longer available... oh well...

    While that is completely true, if no one ever opens the Lockboxes with Keys the items will not make it to the Exchange to be purchased with EC. :D

    Lol, with DR, not shortly after. Frankly I'm surprised at the lack of leaks for this one. Cryptic managed to keep the lid tighter this time.

    I have seen the new Lockbox ships' existence in the Livestream but they generally have Lockbox blogs before a new Lockbox is released. DR goes live on Tuesday and we still have not seen a Lockbox blog; so it is possible that we will get one today or Monday, but it is also possible the new Lockbox might not come out until after Tuesday - maybe as part of Thursday's normal Patch.

    And what does that have to do with a Key sale? For people who buy Keys a sale is a good thing - any sale is a good thing for people who might be interested in buying something.

    You do not buy Keys. The sale does not affect you. Why are you trying to tell others what they should do with their hard-earned cash?

    You buy the things you want and let others do likewise.

    Well upgrading a ship to fleet ship costs 500 Zen (1 fleet ship module) if you own the c-store version or 2000 Zen (4 fleet ship modules) if you don't. That means the costs of upgrading your ship to T5U will be somewhere in between of what you pay for a fleet ship.

    Every time a poster tells someone to sell a Key rather then open a Lockbox they are intentionally working toward decreasing the supply of X item. Supply goes down, price goes up.

    That would still imply that it's possible to get every single lockbox opener to stop opening lockboxes through this method. I have a very hard time believing that every lockbox opener even knows about the boards, let alone wants to post about their lockbox opening. And even so, maybe some actually prefer opening lockboxes because that act provides so much more than the rare ships.

    There are too many factors to go into it for it to reasonably happen IMO.

    Yeah, that's why I pick my lockboxes based on the minor prizes rather than the pipe dream of an uber prize. (Also only open with keys bought for ec/dil). Luckily, when the last box hit, I got one of the "bonus mark" doffs and sold it for almost a couple hundred mil. So I've got a good supply of keys laid in for the next one. /shrug

    Are you having some type of literal affliction today? You seem to be bouncing all over the forum trying to pick issues with people based on how literal their posts are.

    You do not need everyone to stop opening Lockboxes for there to be an impact. As I said above, less Lockbox items on the Exchange means a higher cost - just as the Jem Bug is now only sold off the Exchange due to the 500 million EC limit.

    The more you convince people to sell Keys for EC the more you decrease the pool of people who are currently using Keys on Lockboxes. Eventually you will dwindle your supply as the notion of Keys for EC spreads.

    The sale is good till 10/20 That gives me plenty of time to sit back wait till tuesday see how much upgrades cost and then figure out how many 10packs i'll buy.

    Its all about not being in a rush I grind hard for my well earned zen :)

    You know what's funny with this is that when you tell people who have been on STO a long time that to expect a new Lockbox with DR, they react like it's never happened before.

    Hmmm... I wound up with (2) each Dhelan Warbird refit & Heavy Cruiser refit ships out of 100 Hirogen lock boxes, for an aggregate yield of 4%. Those my not be the best, but they have served well. Tal Shiar lockboxes appear to be a scarcer commodity, probably because they may drop a ship people acutally want. Either way, the House wins no matter how you get your ships... :rolleyes:

    There are certain items in the Lobi Store that are not available through the exchange so people will constantly open up lockboxes for those items.

    The Master Key sale is great for those that are preparing for next week's lockbox. Chances are that it will be a Tier 6 ship with 11 consoles.

    I would simply point out that my initial claim was "IF no one ever opens...." It was not a statement saying everyone will immediately stop opening Lockboxes. It was nothing other then saying the more we turn people away from opening Lockboxes in lieu of opening them the more problems were are causing for ourselves in the long run.

    Please feel free to continue to debate a pedantic point, though. Get the last word in if it makes you feel better.
