Nasty threads aside, we are all expecting a few hiccups and forum explosions on the 14th. Login, maps, new ships, downloads, item upgrades, skill glitch issues (or enhancements)... you get the idea. Finger are crossed in hopes of a flawless launch.
Long term players 'get' the launch issues and wait for the foam to die down before drinking the STO Lager on launch day. What are you doing as a back-up plan?
Note: Going outside, making friends in the 'real world', doing work for real $$$ are not viable answers.
I recently discovered I've never played Dragon Age: Origins. Downloaded it for free yesterday along with Bejewelled 3. Methinks I'll have a little retro fun.
Oh and ARC doesn't allow for spellchecks in thier browser. WTF?
I'll be at work all day and in class for 4 hours in the evening on Tuesday, so I likely won't notice. Barring that, I could do homework, play Diablo 3, or go outside and play Ingress.
Step 1: Launch STO
Step 2: Enter Queue
Step 3: Take niece to park.
Step 4: WEEEEE SWINGS!
Step 5: Come home
Step 6: Check position in queue
Step 7: Go to bed and try again tomorrow.
Repeat steps 1-7 as necessary. If the condition persists for more than 72 hours consult your local physician or witch doctor. Side effects may include fresh air, uncontrollable giggling, and constipation. All rights reserved. Member FDIC.
i bought a sub 2 weeks ago so i can get gold queue login status if there is server overload; but i'm hoping cryptic rented some more server space for the first month so we won't have those issues.
Besides working to pay for education (man that takes a lot of time), probably Borderlands 2 or Dark Souls. Or any of the other dozens of games I neglect on a regular basis to shoot at space tripods for fun and profit.
I'm gonna be stuck working a block of 3, 12 hour, shifts at work...
I won't be able to more than dabble during this time, so I looked at it as something of a blessing as it means I'm not too phased about any immediate post launch burps in the server... I simply won't be around for them...
Note: Going outside, making friends in the 'real world', doing work for real $$$ are not viable answers.
Just wondering why these are not viable answers.
On launch day I entirely expect to be
1. Outside during the day.
2. Hanging with my real world friends, probably playing a few boardgames, maybe a tabletop RPG that night.
3. Making too little real money.
So, why exactly are these things not viable answers.
Oh, and that's Plan A.
Playing the launch of a videogame thing would never be "Plan A" in my world.
Real people and real friends and real things are kind of always Plan A in my book.
I doubt login queues will be a problem anymore. These kinds of updates usually get a huge surge of players, but not enough to form long lines of players trying to log in and play. Either server capacity has gone up to compensate, or people simply lost interest.
You CAN however, expect server downtime and disconnects. Network issues have always been a problem with this game, but they've been noticeably more frequent for the past month or so, and I only expect it to get worse.
I'm not even logging in on the 14th. No need to. Your play experience is gonna be awefull. Multiple disconnects ,Glitches and bugs will make it unplayable. If I do log in it will be at 2:00a.m. that way, just maybe there won't be a ton of people on. (Keeping fingers crossed.)

Well... I'd play Dragon Age... if the Origin Download Server wasn't borked for me. >.<
Might pray that Defiance is stable.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

This.
My previous post aside, I'll probably be giving STO a break for a few days whilst DR launches and the servers are stabilized. That, and it'll give everyone time to find, report, and fix the bugs that'll exist within the initial release (this isn't a dig, it's realistic of any new update).
Because these are obvious things one does (or should be doing) instead of STO (or any other gaming).
They don't make for very good goofy interweb consumption.
I'll go with X3 (AP) if im fiending for a space sim. I never finished Bravely Default, which makes for a good time killer at the laundry mat (along with SMB3).
I've also got Witcher 1 and 2 I've never spent much time on. I usually end up using 'potions' as a drinking game and get stuck playing dice poker for hours on end.
I've picked up 27-inch LED Monitor just to play STO on at my desk along with a leather manager office chair so I can even spend more hours in this game.
My 3 factions will be ready to go on Oct 14th. They all got new ground gear uniforms, shields and weapons.
As backup-plan there is always something to start here project wise where I am. Just too focus on STO at the moment. Down-time just have to find other things to do.
I do hope STO crew have even taken the time to run Model Office or Model Home Player so they can get idea what issue that may or may not transpire?
I will be playing Destiny and Defiance. Really haven't been logging on unless to push the crafting along. In fact, the whole expansion hasn't really bit my let's play STO like LOR did. With all the changes that I don't like coming, STO is probably going to be on the perpetual backburner.

Going by the assumption that DR update starts at 10am PST (16.00 GMT+1) and takes 3 hours then the earliest i can look at DR is somewhere between 2200-2300. If it is has already crashed then i'll just go and grab a beer before hitting the sack.
If it is up and running then i play enough story content to get the reps started on each of my chars, go to bed and then look at new content when i am not about to fall over (planning is i have to get up at 4 am on launch day so at midnight i probably want to grab some sleep).
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Yeah! Dragon Age Origins is one of my all time favorite games. One of the best RPG ever made no doubt with awesome re-playability. I just did a third playthrough on it. They don't make games like that anymore...
October's been a busy release for games and it certainly hasn't helped my backlog of games any. That said, I'll be out most of the evening - figure I'll be lucky if things are stable enough that night to flip the daily grinds.
Additionally, I've been holding off and planning on running my characters through old missions I've skipped on them once the expansion lands. I figure that will give them time to work out the kinks for all the new stuff in the meantime. I've still got a little bit of work to do on some of my characters before they're properly up to speed anyway(my KDF-Rom still doesn't even have ground sets yet).
I'll be enjoying the forum rage that goes on with every launch.
Meh, I think Borderlands: The Presequel is going to be a better piece of entertainment (its a game after all rather than some fairly questionable schadenfruede.)
