Game unplayable - can someone help me work out why

Hi- I've been having the launcher just 'hang' on me over the last few days and then when I get in game so much lag as to be unplayable. I did a tracert and got these results - can someone help me diagnose what they are telling me as to where the problem might be?

Many thanks

Jo

same here, game runs like 2-5fps from time to time for no particular reason, what I've seen populated areas like qo'nos are affected the most

edit: ok, sector space strarted lagging too, yey...

The stickied thread has information necessary for anyone to help you - http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1192081

    Please reply with the information.

Though a quick look at the trace shows hiccups before you even leave virginmedia.
Yes, I'm that Askray@Batbayer in game. Yes, I still play. No, I don't care.

I've had similar issues. Lagging can be addressed in the links and posts above. In my case it turned out to be a bad firmware update on my ISP-supplied modem. 10 minutes of effort solved that immediately.

Also - congenco is a major pain in the TRIBBLE for those of us on the west coast. They have been a throttle on our STO-love on and off for the last three years.

FPS can be affected by many things; drivers, settings, annoying neighbors ;)

One trick for Quonos... drop your video settings to low for everything. Turn off everything (anti aliasing etc). Unsure why Quonos has these issues - ESD does not...

That solved 90% of my gameplay issues immediately.

I then looked at my drivers and updated (or in one case downgraded) to find the optimal performance levels.

Funny. Playing in 640x480 at minimum settings probably will solve all the fps issues as well.. :P, then people forget that with a computer not older than 2 years we should be able to run the game at maximum settings without the need to lower any settings anywhere.

Now, for the op, remind you that STO has fps problems not related to your videocard. There is nothing you can do.
