Strange that they don't have alt versions of the Scryer enabled at least; it definitely had alternate nacelles in the art blog (and maybe saucer, unless the space getting filled in is just what happens if you use a standard hull material).
Thanks for the vid. The only one I really like is the Faeht Intel Warbird. Very pretty. The rest are hideous or just awkward looking. The new klingon battlecruser looks like somebody stepped on a k'tinga and then doodled on it's edges with a red highlighter. The Dauntless looks like a deformed tadpole.
On the Guardian, I'm not sure how I feel about the flirtation with so many impulse engines. Three, wide ones across the aft of the saucer (why the odd number?) and a set on the nacelle struts ala Intrepid-class. Will this ship separate at some point?
(/\) Exploring Star Trek Online Since July 2008 (/\)
Rom ships - look gorgeous especially that Aelahl battlecruiser. Just beautiful work. I love the wings up version of the Faeht too.
Fed ships - Tron ships just not pretty IMO except for the first version of the escort, seeing it as a 3d model, it looks okay, not bad really, not Fed but not bad. The Guardian is so-so. The balance is wrong somehow but it definily looks like a Fed ship, so +1 there.
Klink ships - These I was most surprised about as I thought I would like them as much as I like the Rom ships, but seeing them in 3d.. The Klink Tron ship looks like it was made out of cardboard it was soooo flat.
The Battle cruiser was a nice design but something about the textures or muted colors that make it look like it's a plastic toy. So much so, it kept breaking the illusion, so to speak. Especially on the nacelles where it should be glassy, it has like an ice like texture when light reflects on it that totally looks like a cheap plastic toy.
Maybe it was just the video but I didn't care for the Klink ships anywhere near as much as I thought I would.
I'll be interested in hearing everyone else's opinions.
Edit:
Oh yeah the Dauntless - The windows running at different angles along the hull was kinda popping out at me but maybe I just never noticed that watching on tv.
The Fed intel ships just look odd from any angle. The options for the escort are nice to have I suppose and maybe the others will have options too at time of release. But they are just not pretty to look at, the Scryer in particular looks like a badly rendered 3D model with that weird ring/angular saucer.
The Guardian actually looks pretty good though, and it at least flows together better than the others. The variant looks pretty nice and it's going to look good with some other skins applied to it.
I just don't know what to make of the Dauntless. From the front it is quite nice, a good smooth saucer that looks nice a modern. Then you look at the back and it all goes wrong.
The Romulan ships look pretty darn good though, they have a wicked look to them, very hawk like.
Can't stand the KDF ships though, they are nice models but i'm not a KDF ship fan full stop so they were never going to interest me.
Well done video! Thanks.. This what I've been asking here to see. You need to know what your purchasing in 3D view visually. Now the actually layout of the consoles when your press "u" and what actual console items ( also including weapons, shields, deflector, warp core) mark 11, 12, or 13?
The only ship I was interested in the SCI Intel FED but it lacks 4th weapon fore/aft. Yes I know SCI not a battleship but still could use the 4th weapon. But I've notice there are 5 SCI-Consoles most of the ships, that's interesting to know there is some direction use the 5-6 console spaces.
On the Guardian, I'm not sure how I feel about the flirtation with so many impulse engines. Three, wide ones across the aft of the saucer (why the odd number?) and a set on the nacelle struts ala Intrepid-class. Will this ship separate at some point?
for the nacelles: no. its not possible to seperate the ship that way, besides "falling apart" is now called seperation ;-)))
the three impulses: having one forward and 2 side ones can add a lot of movement capability. middle is forward and then give power to left/right for movement. so, its plausible techwise. if its looking nice im not sure yet. i couldnt imagine smaller ones on that, i could imagine only 2 without the middle one, but i GUESS the ship might have a seperation mode (even itf its not implemented, maybe it can use the gal consoles?!) storywise.
the nacelles are a bit less logic. its like there are the normal main nacelles and smaller little ones, i cant imagine how this ship could have use of that - its possibly a visual gimmic. but i could imagine they are just aux nacelles that can be turned on if one or both main nacelles are damaged, so you can at least warptravel a small distance and not beeing stranded for months like voyager was after big fights.
i must say the eng section could be less fat in the middle parts, also i think the nacelles are a bit to big/saucer a bit to small. but i still like the look thousand times more than the scryer andor eclipse.
I have to join the crown and say thanks for the videos
I dunno, ppl may hate it, but to me, the more I see the Phantom Escort, the more I love how it looks. The first "normal" variant, not the second one. Same goes with the Guardian. Now thats a fine looking ship, that continues the design lines of fed ships.
The romulan Faeht variants, allready seen in sneak peaks from con panel or other blogs, look good too. Especially the last shadowdarkness variant.
And I have to agree with the majority of ppl on the KDF intel ship. Is too flat, looks like it has a single deck or something:eek: Its nice tho it has 3 variants to choose from.
I'm wondering what is to come for dedicated KDF & Romulan sci ships tho, or are the new MatHa Raptor and Faeht Intel Warbird going to double as both Sci and Tac?
Kind of unfair that Fed's have Intel ships for each class but KDF and Rom only have one which is odd cause you would think the Romulans at least would have the same amount or more.
I was already drooling over the Fed Intel escort but after seeing the 2nd variant I want it even more lol.
Man, that Eclipse Cruiser is absolutely awful. Getting to see it from multiple angles really helps demonstrate what a total disaster that thing is.
Came in here to post this. Wow that thing is horrible. Competing with the Dauntless for ugliest ship in the game. The Guardian is really the only new Fed ship I do like.
The Romulans as usual have the best designs. Did the devs actually listen to all the people that wanted to see FASA's old Winged Defender in the game? I can definitely see aspects of it in the wings-up version of the Faeht.
the starfleet intel phantom escort looks better in 3d and she mostly looks like a super beefed up defiant up sized just enough about 200 to 220 meters to not feel so cramped like the 170 meter defiant ncc-74205 class.
the eclipse intel cruiser class in 3d is still very weird and odd looking ship class and not my cup of ship type.
the intel science ship look really good in 3d i also see that someone in starfleet was really fond of the oberth class and wanted to desisgn as much an oberth with saucer and nacelles layout as possible, while having still having some luna class ideas too and the uss kelvin too with the main deflector on the top side. p.s the starfleet intel scince ship is one of 4 ship that are my top 4 favourate starfleet science ship that all are number one in this order olympic class, nebula/galaxy class, intredid class and the intel science class. sometimes i wish that some science ships did had one more weapon slot forward or aft or even a special arc ommi directional beam, single cannon, torpedo slot.
i still really want pilot a guardian class ship though the starfleet intle ships escort and science also look cool.
the flat klingon ship looks like is was a basic klingon ship class but kinda look flatten out nah'vah class design like something the Letheans would try to design cool flat ships classes. speaking of Letheans when are the Letheans going to star building their own ships classes?
the romualan intlel ships to look cool but they will not be replacing my soon to be t5u scemitar, d'dredrex, t'liss/t'varo and for my remen/starfleet officer in her soon to be t5u ambassador class ship thanks to a federation/romulan in game mistake. i would be nice if the cstore were to have a give of tier 5 d7/t'tinga battle cruiser that romula/kdf officer could use.
While I had actually kind of liked the Eclipse design, it's far too flat in the hull. I keep looking at it and wondering where the crew sleep. It needs a bit more meat in the saucer.
- The Fed intel ships really look like TRIBBLE. I don't know where the idea to have them look this awful came from, but they're hideous. Especially the Scryer. The Scryer is hands down the fugliest thing to ever be related to Star Trek.
- The Guardian looks amazing. Finally some traditional cruiser design from Cryptic that really shines. Having the option to "unify" the "split" bussrad collectors is a big plus to me. The 3 impulse engines are a bit of an overkill to me, but that's too negligible to what is a really great design.
- The Dauntless is......the Dauntless. Nothing to say really, we know it from Voyager. A worthy replica.
- The Qib looked better in screenshots. It does seem a bit too much on the flat side. The red lines and hull materials used improve that however, unlike the Fed. intel hull materials. Having multiple variants is refreshing for KDF and that third option with Negh'var-like wings may redeem the overall "flatness" of the ship.
- The Mat'Ha is a beast. The more I look at it - the more I love it. A perfect Klingon design, spot on! The big "nose" spinal cannon looks awesome and intimidating. Very, very good and so very Klingon. Amazing.
- The Rom intel ship does look nice, although all that angles and spikes don't really compute to me in terms of Romulan design which is suposed to be very flowing. Still, it's the best looking of the intel ships and looks quite good by itself.
- The Rom battlecruiser also looked better on screenshots. Seing it now in 3D, I'm not that impressed. Don't get me wrong, it's a good looking ship, but I guess I expected something prettier based on the screenshots.
Man, that Eclipse Cruiser is absolutely awful. Getting to see it from multiple angles really helps demonstrate what a total disaster that thing is.
I do like the Type 1 Guardian, the Type 2 I'm not as fond of.
I think it's going to be easy to spot the difference between the competent players and the posers. Real players will more likely go with the Guardian and Dauntless, where as the kiddies will want to think they look cool all in their riced up USS EnTRONprise.

says the guy with the kiddyish andorian avatar and a kids cartoon signature.
Unlike others, I do actually like the black and blue-lined hull color of the new intel ships, but the actual shape of the ships are absurdly ugly to me. There are few pieces/parts of the hull shape that are nice, but overall they are just plain bad.
The Guardian, although looking a lot more like a Federation ship, still doesn't scream "awesome" to me. Just "meh". I'm not a fan of the big butt/hull look nor the seemingly squished saucer. Again, parts and pieces look nice, but as a whole I just don't get it.
The second Romulan ship looks awesome! Too bad I don't play a Romulan character...

The Klingon BC looks like a flying wedgie.

As for the other Federation ships, garbage in all incarnations!
The Romulan and Klingon seems look good and close to cannon although new.

I can still move.
I can still fight.
I will never give up!
Now, seing them in 3D I can say the following:

Guardian is the only one that even looks vaguely Fed.
The Rommies though, they scored big on the new ships.
humorously the girl in that video is the same one that is in my avatar and sig.
I think it's going to be easy to spot the difference between the competent players and the posers. Real players will more likely go with the Guardian and Dauntless, where as the kiddies will want to think they look cool all in their riced up USS EnTRONprise.
