What's happening with BC

edited March 2015 in PvP Boot Camp
Been a while since I spoke with Jedi, but I been keeping an eye out on Bootcamp events this summer to be able to participate sometime... and have noticed things awful quiet. I've a few questions and rather than lingering, I'll post them here and maybe some of you guys in the know have the answers:

- Are there any current BC events?
- Is it still possible to train with BC?
- Who's in charge of BC and what's being done right now?

the following questions depend largely on the answers to those above:

- Can graduates lead events and become coaches?
- Can graduates get accolades and titles still?
- Are there any planned BC events or is this closed now?

    1. No there are currently no BC events going on.
    2. Currently no as well.
    3. Technically I would consider myself the head of it at the moment, also, nothing going on.

To give a more detailed answer:

Bootcamp is more or less done. The other leaders, including myself, have basically stopped trying. We feel that there's no reason to try and help others into PvP due to the huge gaps in power between those that have things, and those that don't. A gap that is going to MAJORLY widen with the release of the new expansion.

It really doesn't help matters that ever since Branflakes left, Cryptic and PWE support has pretty much totally dried up, as in these past months, we can barely even get Smirk or Trendy to even acknowledge us, let alone actually get the students their rewards (which is why some of the previous class have yet to get them I'm sorry to say).

If you still wish to try and do anything with Bootcamp, Jedinikon still holds an interest in trying, so feel free to contact him and maybe something can still be done.

But me personally...I'm done trying with Bootcamp. I enjoyed my time spent helping people, but the game is leaping forward in power, variables, etc, and that would require an entire overhaul of our system to update with, and I really have no desire to do that with students, to tell them just how much it will 'cost' them to PvP (excluding player-based things like VPvP).
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Thanks for the reply Mimey. Sorry to hear of the demise of BC, sad loss for the game imo after such effort. I'll have a talk with Jedi again if I catch him around, always was in my list of things to do to get into pvp and camp activities.

I regularly help players myself, besides being a fleet leader. I'm also the founder of the help group I'm named after, in operation for over a year, so helping players is nothing new to me. I would like to give my hand at reviving BC or setting up an equivalent training school. We're new at this in comparison to you guys, but our team's very dedicated + highly active and I'm not the kind to be dissuaded by obstacles. My vast social connections built up here over the years are also a plus.

Perhaps some in charge of this project can make a special exception in my case, let me train with you guys and pass the info along to a new generation of coaches and students. We can talk more about this, and I'm sure I'll chat with Jedi when possible. Feel free to drop by our independently built and operated mainstream help channel and have a chat sometime, it's: /channel_join XTERN1TY. Hope to see you around.

I'll only speak for myself when I say this but...

I have no desire to do that. Even if I taught you and a group of people everything I knew, the entire game is about to be flipped on it's head in two weeks when DR gets released. It's gonna be damn nearly a whole new game when that happens, so a lot of what I might tell you will probably end up out of date as such.

Jedi is your best bet. If you can contact him, feel free to do whatever you wish, but I won't be doing anything personally.

I understand how you feel, though for me it's never been only about the training. As both Trek fan and gamer I want to catalog as much of the old time know-how before players like you move on, which ik is inevitable. I been keeping notes on alot of inside tips and secrets about the game in the years I've played and can't help but think a lot of current and past info is going to waste here if I don't act soon. Spent the morning researching the names and @handles of the coaches and students who participated in BC and will try to salvage as much info I can when I get in touch with those who still play, good luck.

    Kick the Bucket Camp.

PvP never had any place in a Star Trek game to begin with. Do you ppl even know WHO the main demographic of a Star Trek fan is any way? It isn't a crowd I'd want to be seen with in public. I have the curse of being very good looking, but with a big brain and damn it a love for Trek. So I do not fit the social high of that bell curve. But. Let me tell ya somethin, most ppl who like Trek do not like games of manual dexterity or physical effort. They are BAD at them...very very bad. That's why they don't play football or hit home runs. They drive their computers at work and oh boy maybe watch an episode of that show NOT for the hot blond that's in it but for a study of the goofballs that surround her.

so did you guys end up passing the torch to the folks that still got gas in their tank to take over boot camp or do you guys decide that because your tired with it, it should die with you guys?

very interested in finding out whatever happened with all of this? I hope you fellas just passed the torch, it would be the right thing to do if you seriously are exhausted with overseeing it

***Disclaimer: I'm no longer a PvP Boot Camp Coach, nor was/am I one of the Vice Admirals of PvPBC. This is just my opinion. Kolln, Drk, or Mimey would know the definitive answer.***

Delta Rising upended a lot of what the Coaches used to teach to students back when Boot Camp was still running regularly. Heck, what's left of the PvP community is still figuring out what the new powers are, and the synergy between the new mastery traits, Intel powers, R&D traits, yadda yadda yadda.

AFAIK PvP Boot Camp has not shut down.

The only PvPBC-related thing I know for sure is still running is a text based version of one of the three Sessions currently in production. And I know this because I'm writing it! :) With any luck, it will be released by Christmas, but don't quote me on that. There are a lot of revisions I have to make, due to Delta Rising. There's a whole thread about it in the PvP Boot Camp subforum, if you're interested in seeing what's currently completed.

Boot Camp is still on the cards as SD said. This is merely a repose.

It's good to take a break so long as that breaks not too long.

In the coming new year, things will get started again. At least that's what I hope and Boot Camp ask the community that's keen to assist to start considering how they can help. There are still many people that can benefit. I know I can, and as a small community we need to draw together, not apart.

Boot Camp, is many things to many people. Some hold it in esteem, and yeah ... some not so much. But that's OK, we focus on the ones that care.

    Kindest Regards

I'm going to start off by laying down a few facts so folks are on the same page here:

    1. For me, I am personally done with Bootcamp. I'm not mad at anyone within BC, or any PvPers, just tired of trying to constantly stay caught up and knowledgeable as they pile on more and more stuff to the game. Honestly, it would take at least a 6 class course IMO to cover ALL that is in the game anymore, and that's just me lowballing what I think atm.

    2. I stand by pretty much all I said in my earlier posts in this very thread, even if it was 2 months ago now. The proof is still there as even a months ago Kolln tried to send Smirk a PM here on the forums to tell him, and as far as I know, never got a reply. Maybe he was busy with the expansion, maybe not. Either way, no response is still no response, and even before that, any time we tried to contact Smirk on the forums, we could hardly get anything from him at all.

    3. The torch WAS passed on, as for awhile I still considered myself de facto head of BC for a time since Kolln, Jedi, and myself seemed to be the only ones really thinking about it (out of the Vice Admirals I mean), and talked with Jedinikon in depth about it, who was on board with continuing it, just with a new system. Now this was at best still his plan as of early October, so if something happened or not between then and now, I am unaware of it, as I have not had a chance to talk to Jedi since I've managed to come back.

Anyways, that's the general things I felt needed to be said atm. I didn't want to 'speak' for anybody else in this post (since I kinda did in my earlier ones in this thread to be fair). I don't think I could totally 'quit' BC, but I know I won't ever try and coach again. I put a lot of time and effort into it for so long, usually being the only, or one of only a couple coaches for most classes during the time BC was more active. I'm burnt out, pure and simple.

If someone did try and revive BC, which I'm not against, they would need to be willing to handle all that went with it. PR, getting a new TS (Kolln basically got rid of the BC area of his), getting coaches, getting students, etc etc. It isn't exactly simple.

I don't want to make this post go on for too long, but I did want to say some stuff since I am back.

first of all welcome back Mimey!

Now, if anyone would be willing, together with me, to try reviving the Boot Camp, it would be a pleasure. I am confident i can get a teamspeak, i have some knowledge of how the game works and what are the best solutions for all classes of ships (Sci, Escort, Cruiser) and it would be a honor for me to work in the Boot Camp.

I really hope someone else feels, just like me, that the BC needs to be revived. It was a great project, and i feel it deserved to be brought back up.

Feel free to send me a PM if you're interested in reviving BC, send me a friend request (@giotariz) and then we can have a chat.

Question how do you plan on breaking the news to the bootcamp newbies the amount of grind and/or money they have to spend to compete?
