I said "despite", trying to imply that everything after that word didn't matter.

Well considering that I agree with your implied position, I sure hope you don't vilify me. =p

Oh ok, I apologize for the miscommunication. I interpreted it to be a negotiation of ideologies with a bargain in favor of the gender divisional mindset. I mentioned this because I think certain things humans do things to appease others without realizing it, even if its wrong or silly. Such as saying "bless you" after someone sneezed, is there a point? Why do we say it? Indoctrinated reactions are something I enjoy studying and helping others overcome.

No, you are connecting different things whether you think so or not.

The issue is this: you can't seem to wrap your head around the fact that TRIBBLE humor and r*pe are completely different, and should be treated differently.

TRIBBLE humor is juvenile, yes, and I'm the first to say I'm not entirely above it. I think it's pretty obvious. But never have I made light of r*pe, racism, religion, or anything else that has serious real-life implications.

My sig is a product of something else entirely, something that I had hoped would teach the poster something about making up false statements and attributing them to others, but it appears the message went straight over his head.

What I did not do was attack his: race, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, as these are well outside the bounds of the original point.

I have never tossed around the r-word, not the n-word, nor the f-word, even when losing in PvP (and I lost a lot in PvP), because I realize there is a much larger context attributed to those words.

This really isn't hard to understand. I'm kind of surprised you aren't picking up on this, or at least I wish I could say I was surprised. You are free to use as many "rolling eye" emoticons as you want to make it seem like you are "in the know," but switching the entire debate to my actions and me in particular doesn't necessarily strengthen your position, which shifts with every new post in this thread. That's called moving goal posts.

I'll say it again, regardles of WHO is the victim (male, female, child, adult), r*pe is simply not an acceptable thing to toss around lightly nor joke about. You have made several arguments, including: "well millions of people do it, so that's just what people do," and "well we don't mean it in that way." Those aren't valid excuses for allowing this behavior. Will you personally stop it? No way, not even close, but you can at least recognize that it isn't appropriate for a myriad of reasons.

I think you're not understanding the context of the verbage. The "R" word as well as saying something is *a* is although irresponsible and rude, it doesn't hold nearly the magnitude of an actual hate crime. What happened to you was a juvenile potty mouth from your own statements, I believe you're not understanding the overall difference between a person who seriously wants to commit an actual crime.

You would be suprised how many times I have heard the words from all sorts of people online probably thousands of times, even from friends of mine. They know I don't like it, and to be honest I have said lots of things that would probably make you frown, but at no time did I ever think it would cause the other player undue harm or strife, and neither have my friends. So I would recommend tuning into practical battles, sure online bullying is a thing, but that is why you can right click their name and report them to a GM if you feel its out of control.

Don't mind people yelling for me to die. That was not the implication of the language being used.

Complacency and trivialization are the enemies here.

I try never to accuse anyone of being a feminist, or allowing feminism to color their actions. If I stop reading this post *now*, I can maintain my perfect record.

Uh, dude. The section you emphasized is basically dismissing the "singular, albeit weak, point" of "MRA jihadists".

In response to people saying that the term is offensive but not misogynistic, he calls them "Men's Rights idiots", then repeatedly refers to the latter group in a derogatory fashion.

(Misandry is arguably not a thing in certain contexts, but it is definitely a thing when it comes to how domestic violence, sexual assault/harassment, and custody battles play out.)

I was just in a PvP zone when a player from another zone announced in chat "welcome to the **** club, whos first?" Poor punctuation aside, I've reported the offender, and would like to encourage all of my fellow gamers to do the same when they see this kind of behavior. I'm not opposed to a bit of trash talk, but there's no room in this community for such blatantly sexist language.
    My reaction.

IKR! One person makes a joke directed not at OP but at the other faction that constantly runs their mouth, and OP loses her/his/its mind.

Welcome to Ker'rat. It's one of the most social zones in STO. It is a true visual and textual experience where one witnesses the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the insanity of Fed players flying their ships directly at mobs of NPCs, and a whole lot of foul-mouthed insults and buckets of tears.

    God, I love it.

I promise you, compareing STOs Language in PVP to that of WOW. Its like comparing Betty Boop to Ozzy Ozborne. If the Language you read in chat offends you, you must be a very delicate individual. Also, if you read something you don't like from a player. Put them on ignore. Its there for a reason.

I never really played wow, the little that I did played I did not see the level of language I see in STO. Also it will take more then words to offend me. Still does change the facts STO has some of the most foulest Pvp players I have ever seen in my years of gaming.

I have to agree with nabreeki here. That say something
If I meet someone using this word as a taunt/troll, I'll report the person right away.

I don't think it's misogynistic (afterall, males are also concerned by it). But it is offensive, and it's not a word to use lightly.

Too often in video games people forget that they are human beings.

Recently i've seen many shameful examples of misbehavior, from things like the OP mentioned to players telling others they should kill themselves.

One can not help but wonder if these people were raised by animals. How did they forget that they are human beings, with human dignity, etc? What has happened to their self respect?

By punishing people for wrongdoing, or forcing them to apologize, we remind them that they are human beings, with human dignity, and the capacity for self respect.

If we do nothing, we are denying their humanity and treating them like animals. You can't make an animal apologize. You can destroy or condition an animal, but it cant understand punishment in any moral sense.

The issue is the filer of anonymity on the web. With this filter there are no real repercussions. Say something to someone’s face and risk a physical repercussion. Say the same thing or worse on the web and sit back safe and sound like the troll you are.

I can not see how this will change. It is far better to report and ignore them then feed their need for attention.

    Fairly said.

Anonymity, like many useful tools, is as healthy or as unhealthy as the person employing it.

Seems to me, the key word when confronting the sort of thing the OP faced is dignity.

Like so many bullies, this sort of behaviour is designed to elicit a specific sort of response from the victim.

A dignified response is rarely the sort of response they thrive on.

My god. Nabreeki has shown himself to be at least in part a decent human being.

More seriously, Nabreeki, well said. Despite the fact that your signature is, in fact, highly insulting to its target and in a grey area of TOS, your general point is sound.

Unlikely - on the standard QWERTY keyboard, the R key is in the top row, while the V is on the bottom. Typing "cape" or "bape", or even "fape" or "gape", might be believable; a mistake of that proportion, however, seems far less likely than simple lack of civilization on the part of the typist.

    ^This

Vaping is a very popular strategy in pvp. You basicly spam as many buffs as possible and kill the enemy with ONE shot. Normally ships which can cloack are used for this strategy because of the surprise effect ( lack of active defense buffs of your target ) and the decloaking bonus damage.
Since it takes special and very specialised ship builds to counter it, vaping became are everyday thing in pvp. The guy who said welcome to r-word club is just another frustated guy because of the poor state of pvp in this game and now tries to share his frustation with other players like you but:
The guy just did a small typo.

( I will stay neutral/hiding from the verbal discussion/fight in this thread... )
