So I just started messing around with the built-in demo player (I have not downloaded the Demo Launcher program). I was taking screenshots with the demo, but they weren't showing up in the default Live folder... they're showing up in a folder from my old Windows files.
Several months ago, I updated my computer from Vista to Windows 7. In that upgrade, the C drive kept a folder titled "Windows.old" that contained some files and such from the old version of windows. I kept the folder because it seemed like it might be useful (also I "don't have permission to delete it" what???).
However, there is a duplicate STO folder in there now: C:\Windows.old\Users\MYNAME\Local Settings\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Perfect World Entertainment\Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online\Live
The files in here mostly seem to have been created about the time I reinstalled STO on my computer. I know that STO is installed in its proper default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Perfect World Entertainment\Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online\Live
When I take screenshots in game, or record a demo in game, those files go to the default, proper live location. But based on the fact that the demo player-generated screenshots are going to the windows.old folder, and the fact that some of the .hogg files in the piggs folder were modified today with a patch, it seems that I somehow have a duplicate STO folder??
As far as finding the screenshots from the demo playback, it's fine now that I know where to look, but I'd rather not have STO going and creating a duplicate install (memory!). Theoretically, just deleting the folder will stop it, right? The issue is that for whatever reason, the demo player is actively using the hogg files (I learned when I tried to delete them). Despite the fact that the desktop shortcut to the demo player has the proper default location as its target.
Here's another interesting tid bit: I had to search for files created today to figure out where the demo screens were going. When I navigated to C:\Windows.old\Users\MYNAME, to investigate the full file path, the "Local Settings" folder didn't appear - even though I have my computer set to see hidden folders, and can actually see one in that location. But I had to manually type "Local Settings" in at the top of my viewer to get to that folder.
