Questions about the changes

I play sto here and there atleast until they fix a few major flaws, so in this last return there was some odd things

When R&D was changes, I thought atleast form the patch notes I read, that old samples would be changed over to the new samples? Reason I asked is I got a very large old stockpile, that I stopped using when they killed the old R&D by adding the dilithium to it.

The other thing, I had the first look for Maco armor unlocked on my Federation toon, however despite having said armor. The look is no longer there and I did not see an option to get it back?

Also for some reason the Borg missions reset themselves and are popping up as new? This is actually annoying those missions were heavily ground oriented and not particularly fun. They also involved dozens of enemy npcs. It looks like they redid them? Then again why would that reset them?

Last question did beam weapons, and beam weapon abilities get a major buff yet, or is it still cannons for all primary dps.

Double click on your samples and you get a mini "store" to do the exchange

For armor visuals, check you tailor options

I'd guess that Borg missions got reset due to having been redone.

according to a many people, beams on certain builds will out damage cannons

Thank you, this game is always changing. Just was trying to get a handle on some of those changes.

So the information checked out so far, still not sure about the beams vrs cannons. Even when I was playing sto on a regular basis that was a major debate, but essentially it came down to only beam builds that ere viable was highest quality beams at end game. Other then that cannons out did beams. So that will be something ill have to mess with.

I like the new armor look set up, very nice that I can apply that to my bridge officers. Very much liked the overhaul for R&D looks like it might be usefull again, and as far as I can tell has no ties to Dilithium, which means when I level it up to max again lol for the third time. I should be able to mess around with the beam vrs cannons.

Question though is there any specific way I should exchange old samples for new? I do not want to squander my stockpile. Also it seems the samples i get in the exchange are random?

Its one of those things that depends.

A scimitar, with 5 forward DHC, at 2-3 km distance, is going to out-dps any beam cruiser on a single target.

However a DBB avenger with FAW can probably outdps a DHC scim in an aoe fight because beams have a better aoe AND the targets might not all be at point blank range. Cannon aoe only really works with a GW pile; FAW covers more distance and a bigger cone, for a better all around aoe.

Then you have other weapon layouts. A 4/4 cruiser with 8 beam arrays hitting compared to a 4/3 escort using 4 DCH and 3 turrets... the cruiser is probably slightly better as "acutal" dps is going to be close but the cruiser has better aoe and range again. This is assuming same # of tac consoles and so on, which is another issue for comparisons.

But dps on paper (aoe dps) hitting targets that don't even take damage (fake parses for ICE etc where the early aoe hits on the gates are parsed but do not contribute to the effort, and some ppl target the gates and shoot pointlessly at them) vs contributing dps can be wildly different. AOE fights vs planet killers are wildly different. Weapon layouts matter a ton. ... It just depends.

I don't think you get a choice on conversions.. I think each old sample converts to a single choice of new sample (?). As for the exchange, the BOXES of mats are random. You can buy specific mats as well. ALL stfs now drop a box of mats, by the way. You could do a couple of things... show all items in R&D and look at the mats you will need for the schools you are working on OR just go by the exchange prices as a quick way to see what is really "rare" and "useful" vs plentiful and useless.

The samples you get out of the conversion window are pretty randomized. But luckily there are fewer types in the new system. The conversion rate for the old particle traces are the worst. You only get a small chance at getting a blue material.

For the re-vamped Borg Episodes - PLAY THEM! They did a fantastic job re-doing them. The visuals are amazing and the story is much better than it used to be (and plays into the Solanae Episodes). Plus, when you replay the Episode 'Assimilated', you get a random, career specific, Purple MK XI Kit Module (repeatable every 30 minutes - so you can customize your Kit the way you want it ).

    Just my two cents.....
