Resetting Camera Type

I'm honestly not sure if this is bugged or what, but I keep running into this problem where, despite having set my game's Camera Type (Menu > Options > Controls, and it's the fourth one down) to 'Free Camera', meaning it doesn't follow your ship or your target...

And then, suddenly, I find - usually at the worst possible time in a combat situation - that for some unknown reason the game has reset that, and only that, to the default of "Follow Target" (Usually with the result of causing me minor motion sickness as the camera whips around with a frigate or fighter).

Does anyone know any way I can stop it from do this or am I just SOL and doomed to having to go in and return it to my chosen setting and hope I don't get defeated while I'm doing it?

This has been happening to me for at least two years. I honestly can't pinpoint when it started, but it drives me bananas at times.

Pretty sure I've put about 3 bug reports in for it, with no result so far.

Ugh, fixed and then rebroke? That happens WAY too often...

this has happened as long as i can remember, and i dont think the 'fix' ever did fix it at all.
it would be pretty great if this was actually fixed once and for all.

Are you sure it is a bug. It happens to me also. However I always save a HUD setting and load it on other characters. It seems to me that not only the boxes are saved/loaded.

Then, I use keybinds. Once in a while I change them, save them, unbind them on my alts and load my new bindfile. It is always after these actions, the camery type is changed.

My binds are sometimes also reset. This is the case after a patch. Perhaps there are sometimes patches on the fly that make the camera reset. Perhaps?

Is there a console command for free camera? I bind it to a key. I found camUseAimCam and camUseChaseCam, but that is not what I want.

Yup, unfortunately it is a classic cryptic "move".

The camera controls are really abandoned for really weird reasons. I also experienced really weird issues a year ago when i used to play with follow camera mode. But i realized that "free camera" is always the best option no matter what style of play you have, so i use it since then. But i didnt experience those problems. Since the day im using free camera.

But what i HATE is, the lack of more zoom on all the camer controls. It makes me nuts. When i use big ships, its really annoying (and stupid i must say) to have half of my ship behind my power try. And because i cant apply more zoom, thats the way i need to play.

I dont even understand why cryptic didnt even add more zoom to the default limits of the engine. Its again, stupid.
