Sure sounds like the Dauntless will be...

Listening to the Priority One coverage of the STO announcement from LV... sure sounds like the rumored Dauntless-class will be a science vessel (perhaps the science/tactical ship?).

This makes perfect sense to me... the Dauntless was comparable to Voyager, for the most part, and Intrepid-class ships are science vessels. I know some in the past were thinking it would be an escort... but, aside from the reason I just mentioned, do we REALLY need another FED escort? :P

If this is one of the forthcoming ships (I find it likely), then I'ma buy it for reals. :D

True, but if the game will adapt Solanae tech to faction ships, it's not a hard leap for the Federation to take a design and adapt it... my guess, with a top-line QSS drive.

the constitution class had more offensive capability than an intrepid.

Voyager was a long range science ship with tactical abilities...

Untill the 25/26'th century... Canon fact.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Nah, that was only a Toy from a destroyed ship.

True, but the Dauntless was presented as a (faux) replacement/improvement to Voyager. Everything about it said 'Advanced Science Vessel' to me.

Should point out that they never mentioned the Dauntless by name at the dev panel, and it is not mentioned in the "Trek Radio Interview Info Dump" thread (I was not personally present at that part of the event).

It's certainly not out of the realm of possibility, but I wouldn't treat it like it's a done deal.

thats the thing they would have the design the whole thing upwards, rebuild it from specs. but since it wasnt a real ship or design, the borg have already assimilated it and arturis' knowledge, the design if it ever came would be tainted.

It is indeed an awkwardly cute, tiny little ship, that's for sure.

Is not the Vesta the "tactical" Science Vessel? Once you have Aux Cannons what more do you need? :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Funny. It came off more as a Scout Ship to me.

Having Starfleet recreate a ship that an alien created to look similar to Starfleet's ships makes far more sense than a Starfleet ship from another timeline (Galaxy-X).

Dauntless would be nice, but at the same time it could also be the Warship Voyager.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

If we can pilot Voth ships, sentient bio-ships (from the Undine), Dominion ships, ships from 500 years in the future, Elachi ships, and Tholian ships, I think we can handle tech we're familiar with even if it isn't Federation. After all, Voyager brought back enough info about the ship to recreate its FTL drive. :p

If the Dauntless is made it will most likely be tac oriented for sure. Maybe with a 4-2 weapons lay out:rolleyes: (yes unlikely, but it would be nice), though that might belong better if the Romulans every get a real science ship.

I'd say it's gonna be like the Dyson Destroyers...

The Vesta at this point better get a hull buff for Delta Rising's release.

Well, true, it's not a "done deal"... but, thanks to Priority One offering the audio from BOTH the panel and the "info dump" Q&A, I was just reading between the lines. Here's my line of thinking:

    1. Clearly, X2 has strong ties to Voyager and the Delta Quadrant.

    2. In the panel, someone asked about science ships. Geko and the panel responded with the crafting system allowing you to upgrade your ship without a fleet. There is also new ships coming out, especially this new tactical science vessel (similar to the Tactical Vesta). Geko also said that there is a very special T6 ship coming that we have seen from the Delta Quadrant. It also seems to be a science vessel.

Could be anything, of course... but it sure didn't sound like it would be an obscure alien ship. It sounded like it would be a FED ship, but we've seen it before... what Starfleet ships did we see in Voyager? The Prometheus (check), the Equinox & Rhode Island (check check), the other obvious canon ships (obvious check)... then, there's the Dauntless, the Starfleet ship that wasn't a Starfleet ship.

A stretch? Maybe, but like I said, it sure seems like there's room for it. :)

When you think about it this makes the Star Trek Titan novel Orion's Hounds ironic as hell.

And then you realize Tuvok may have been involved in okaying the Undine Bio-ship thing and find it even more ironic.

Pretty sure this is coming, even though Geko didn't mention it by name in the rundown at LV.

To me, the Vesta line would be high on their priority list... it's a C-Store ship, and it's a bundle pack. That means easy $$$ for the mothership. :)

At the least, my guess is that you'll be able to boost things like hull strength and shield mods through this new upgrade mechanism. Pure speculation on that, though.
