Something positive about JJverse, the fact he only did 2 films is a massive positive, sadly that positivity is outweighed by the fact that Orci is now apparently director and writer SS3.
It rubbish science made me laugh which is a positive, but then that made me want to strangle JJ until he stops breathing, which is a negative.
I suppose them using section 31 was a positive. Through one ship is hardly going to stand against the Klingon empire, who must have hundreds of warships built on the technology discovered and research from their capturing of the Narada.
1. We have Star Trek back after the horrible mismanagement by Rick Berman and Brannon Braga.
2. It put some wind in the sails of CBS Studios to greenlight a Star Trek MMO.
3. It was fun and enjoyable. The lighting in the movie made me smile after so many movies in the present day that like the grimdark scheme to make everything look depressing. The 2009 movie looked like a bright and hopeful future I'd expect to see in the 1960's series.
4. Bruce Greenwood as Christopher Pike.
5. The shots of the Budweiser Brewery used as sets made me think of the campy, low-budget sets in the 1960's show.
6a. The reaffirmation that Trekkies are the worst kind of fanbase in all geekdom. Even Bronies don't spend 90% of their time crucifying what they love. Trekkies really go above and beyond your usual breed of horrible fans.
If you loved Enterprise and Nemesis but hate and despise the 2009 Star Trek movie, you are part of the problem. And nobody should listen to anything you have to say regarding the opinion of quality Star Trek anytime ever.
I think the reason behind this is that Trek is highly open for interpretation. Everyone seems to see something different in it and tries to protect that thing.
"...'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied--chains us all irrevocably.' ... The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged. I fear that today--"

If you loved Nemesis, you definitely have no business trying to call ST09 or STID out as being "mindless explosion-filled eye candy that abandons everything Trek ever stood for". I mean, rebel miners being able to construct a massive state-of-the-art starship, with more armament on board than half the Fleet put together, literally under the noses of the feared Tal'Shiar, and under the leadership of a human??
Action!Hero!Picard and the Jeep of Doom, racing across the landscape with Worf firing his pintel-mount phaser rifle, violating the Prime Directive in ways that never even entered Kirk's wildest wet dreams?
Yet another Soong android that somehow escaped everyone's attention, only instead of being hidden in a cave on a devastated world or running around thinking it's an actual human being, it's buried in the sands of a planet lightyears from anywhere Noonien Soong could plausibly have gone?
And that just hits the high points of the plot holes. ST09 is positively Shakespearean by comparison.

I think you covered all the basics;).
My opinion on JJ verse is that they make good action movies but horrible star trek. And I just want to punch whoever decided to film engineering in a brewery! The tv set in TOS looked more high tech.

The TV set in TOS barely showed any of Engineering, to be fair. You can always pretend it's one of the Fusion Power Plants!

To be fair... B4 was not found in the same place where Soong left him. He was found after the Romulans and/or Remans spent a considerable amount of reprogramming him. Then they left him some place where Picard could find him.

judging by how hard the clone was and how jealous he was of picard's success, it is far more likely to be reman involvement then romulans knowing these details because later on when they realized shinzon extermination plot on earth, even they were appalled at the scale of what shinzon is planning onm that it would dishonor every romulan not to stop these barbarian slaves from destroying everything. and donatra learning of shinzon's illness. it was clear there was more the remans had got the bag then anyone else knew.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

The whole plot was just ridiculous. The only reason I watch that movie is to see the battle with the Schimitar.

I believe Chuck Sonnenburg said it best: You don't get credit for stuff that gets left on the cutting-room floor.

Ok... relevance? Because I'm talking solely about stuff that WAS in the movie.
... You're right, my bad.

Filming in a brewery was an interesting move that made that part of Engineering look industrial and not like some clean little room. It LOOKED functional, like a modern Engine Room.
The only thing is that it is supposed to be an engine room in the 23rd century. Do you really think they are going to be using concrete, steel pipes, and steel I-beams in the 23rd century?
And anyone who has watched science channel knows that the warp core was filmed at the big laser in the California Combustion Institute, though it was the one thing in that room that looked high tech.
Form follows function. What else would they look like? :P
I dunno, perhaps something that actually bears a lick of resemblance to the engine rooms in the various series.

I like the looks of the interiors. The tech, the holoscreens, pop-up screens, etc. It looks futuristic to me. It is what I would think a starship would look like.
I also like the use of aliens in Star Fleet and on the ship - and that Android Boff in Into Darkness was more interesting looking and sounding to me then Data.
I also like the fact that the cast is young. Sorry, but I am not one of those people who wants to watch 55-75 year old people hoping around and acting like they are 25 in action movies.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Just give us an engine room that doesn't look like a damn oil refinery. As I said earlier, do you really think they will be using concrete on starships?

There were no Androids in "Into darkness"?
I beleive you're confusing an android, with the Augmented Human
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
As far as the brewery engine room, tng as good a show as it is, had too much treknobabble. The brewery engine room, the non canon aliens (not having canon aliens bugs me more than the engine room) the pop up phasers etc, was a way to distance the movie from all that. Abrams didn't want to pander to nerdy fanboys who pore over technical manuals. the jj movies are just movies you watch, you don't role play as alien races, you don't study ship schematics. the nerd factor has been gutted out.
A TIME TO SEARCH: ENTER MY FOUNDRY MISSION at the RISA SYSTEM Parallels: my second mission for Fed aligned Romulans.

An odd choice of identifiers for them to use, since "augment" has a very specific, and rather sinister, connotation in Trek lore. Just plain ol' "cybernetic" might have sufficed.
Not really the thread for it, but I'm puzzled that a cybernetic human would be considered since Roddenberry seemed to dislike the idea of humans artificially enhancing themselves. (Though maybe I simply misunderstood his viewpoints.)

I assumed everyone went commando.
There goes that headcanon...:(

Again I have to point out that it could have easily been one of the Fusion Power Plants we saw in the movie, not Main Engineering.
