If i wanted to run an escort and not use Dual heavy Cannons would i put up 3 Dual beam banks and a torpedo? I want to use Beam overload 3, was just wondering if anyone has done a similar build like this.
For a while I did my best to get as much as I could out of a DBB-armed escort. I believe I was using a couple including some low-level fleet escort and the Defiant and a mirror escort.
Overall it's perfectly fine. It's a different style of gameplay from cannons. It also won't get as much damage as cannons, from my experience. Not sure if it's the innate nature of the cannons themselves or the boff skills that buff them.
Battlecruisers tend to fare better with DBBs because they have the ENG skills to keep power up to extreme levels, but escorts lack this ability and their power levels will drop a bit more.
Another thing to consider is you need to run turrets in back with DBBs up front.
Your replacement for CSV becomes FAW. If you FAW with 360 omni AP in aft slot or BAs in aft slots, they aggro the universe around you, and you die a fast swift death. In an escort you ONLY aggro what you're currently killing and other times you curl up into a tiny ball and try not to get noticed.
That means running turrets in the aft slots, which means they don't benefit from boff skills, which means overall a decrease in dps. Still effective, but won't win any awards.
I have just that I used one DBB it works fine the dmg is not too bad or the dps thanks to the bigger firing arc than what DHCs have and the BO does loads of dmg.Almost forgot I run an Mirror Nova with two DBBs.
EDIT: after the patch I loaded up my sovy refit with DBBs and I LOVE it I come often first and second in the DPS race. I think u should use the avenger or sovy refit if u have the fleet version use it (because why would u not) and then u just have to enjoy the awesome DMG and the laughs when u press BO and THY the shields of the enemy are gone when the BO is done the THY hits the hull and there is not a enemy left if there is your DBBs , KCB (u should have it) , turrets , maybe omni beam and if your torp is rdy takes care of the 5-20 percent (if u are not fighting a gate or cube) thats left if u have 2 BOs your second BO takes care of the remaining hull or then u have built your ship wrong or have no skill and u have been blown up when the enemy looked at u.
Well if my fore weapons were DBB Torp, and 2 DHC's what tact officer abilities would i use?
I have a Commander and Lieutenant Tact officer slots to play with, like i said i would like to use Beam overload 3 but what else, i don't want to use to many different types of attacks.
Edit: I was mistaken it was a LT BO not LT Commander
OP, I have a few different escorts that I run with DBB up front, usually slower heavier escorts that I setup as destroyer-escort hybrid. You get a large cone of fire that is more forgiving, lots of damage from beam-related buffs, can also get lots of spike from periodic BO, but burst damage is less than CRF will give you. In all cases I also have cannon-centered builds on fast attack-ship platforms. They are different styles, and if you build correctly they are both pretty good.
Today's patch should make them more useful, since you will be able to BO much more often, for much more damage.

Everyone is going to hate you. Be a cool guy and boycott beams.

I'd dump either the DBB or the Torp. If you run all three types of weapons on a TacCdr + TacLt, you'll end up with half of your weapons unbuffed plus missing out on any kind of attack pattern.
The beam-scort build does work, although for practicality use arrays and not dual beams to max your damage on a FAW style build.
I work with a hybrid Cannon, Dual Beam build for my fleet patrol. The BO and CSV combo is a highly effecting combo. Only 1 dual beam, but well worth the BO3 that gets channeled to it.
I was thinking doing a 3DBB and a Torp kinda wanted to use the bio molecular weopons to really stack the debuff with the 4 part counter command weapon set.
I need to really play around with the boffs to see what works best.
Thanks for the feedback so far.
BO3 and HY2 can make a good combination. I have two escorts and two BOPs with this combination and they all do pretty well. Keep in mind that HY is still chance-based and if you rely on it for a finisher you are going to be rolling dice a lot. CRF with DHCs is more consistent and therefore more reliable.
Most of the ships that I use with DBBs are forced into it, either they cannot mount DHCs, or do not have BOFF seating to use them effectively (LtC Tac and room for APO), or do not have the turn-rate to use them effectively (16+). DBBs are their primary weapons because that's all they can use for forward-firing destroyer builds. Works fine, you need to rely on tank more since you cant kill as quickly.
You have to keep in mind that even with the recent Beam Overload change, BO is still a single use ability just like HYT or TS. Having multiple arrays (single or dual bank) for the purpose of BO is not optimal.
If you've already got a Beamboat built for BFAW, your build did not become obsolete overnight. You are still built for good damage as always.
If you've already got a DHC+DBB build, utilizing CRF+BO, then you really like the recent change.
If you're in a very TAC heavy seating Escort such as a Defiant or any one that has Cmdr & LtCdr TAC seating, you may get away with a bunch of DHCs+DBB for BO+Torp.
Also, keep in mind that to REALLY maximize the most out of revamped BO is that you're going for Crit Severity now. If you maximize that via Consoles, esp. going from Vuln.Locators to Exploiters, that has major ramifications for the rest of your weapons. Depending on the build and playstyle, that may be a huge negative or positive.
Rest assured, if you had a good damage dealing build before the recent BO update, it's still a good damage dealing build. Not sure why some dudes on various chats were spazzing and crying that their "OMG my 30k build is now obsolete!!!" or such nonsense. If you're doing good damage already, then you're doing fine still. The BO update is a different means on doing damage, but it is a single spike ability for a single target.

If you run multiple beams, faw will always be your best bet. If you only use one beam, BO that B up

It's not an either-or choice.

the Ship is the mirror escort retrofit.
I did a torp , DBB , 2 DHCs build on the same ship my tac boffs are
Cmdr. BO1, BO2 , THY3 , CRF3
Lt. TT1 , APB1
So u get one decent attack pattern

Just like it always has been.
